Analysis of teaching material What:This text is a diary about Jane’s travel to Malaysia. It mainly talks about Jane’s two-day trip, her activities and feelings. The first day is full and enjoyable. But in the second day, there are some difficulties and the author feels terrible. Why: In this diary, the author records her vocation and feelings so that these experiences can be remembered and may remind readers of it in the future. How: This text is written in the form of dairy which is in first person. It is divided into to two days and each one follows time order. The author introduces her activities in a day, using phrases such as this morning, for lunch... Besides, the author use many adjectives to express her feelings.

Teaching procedure Activity 1 Watch a video Ss are invited to talk about their life on vocation and enjoy a video about Malaysia.Then T will ask them about it. Activity 2 Prediction Ss observe the pictures on the textbook and predict what they are going to read. Introductions By discussing their vocation, ss can relate their background information with today’s lesson. At the same time, the context is created and the theme is elicited naturally. The video can inspire ss’ interest and help them understand the text. Looking at the pictures so that they have a prediction of what they are going to read.
Activity 3 Read and think Ss read the diary and collect basic information including time, place, activities and feelings. Then they summarize and finish the mind-map. Then T will introduce the features of diary. Activity 4 Discussion Ss analyze and deduce causes of bad trip and discuss how to prepare a successful trip. These activities help ss understand the text logically. Their thinking skills are cultivated through analyzing and deducing.
Activity 5 Share with Jane T show some beautiful attractions in China and then Ss are divided into groups to do the role-play, sharing with Jane how to plan a successful trip to one of attractions in China. Activity 6 Summary Ss and T together reflect and summarize what have been learned. By group work, ss make use of what they have learned in new context. Therefore, their abilities to transfer and solve problems as well as creativity are cultivated.
Homework Must do: Write a diary about your recent travel experience, making use of what we learned today. Optional: Make a travel plan about an attraction you are very interested in.

Reflection It maybe a little difficult for ss to summarize and finish the mind-map for the first time. The blackboard design maybe complex for them and the key points are not highlighted.
