Analysis of teaching material What: listening material in 2d is a daily conversation about Greg, the newcome and Helen. Helen suggests some supermarkets and cinemas in neighborhood for Greg. Why: show how to ask and answer personal questions by using superlative. How: conversation includes greeting, asking, answering and thanking. By using superlative to solve Greg’s problems.
Teaching objectives By the end of the session, most students will be able to express their favorite things with superlative. This will be achieved by: 1. teaching students superlative through the guided discovery method. 2. students will be able to use sentence structures “What’s the best movie theater ” " "I think Sun Cinema is the best, because it has the most comfortable seat." to express their own ideas.
Teaching focus Grammar: master superlative Vocabulary: comfortable, expensive, cheaply and so on.
Anticipated difficulties Students may feel it difficult to use the superlatives properly.
Teaching procedure Step 1 Lead-in 1. Introduce teacher himself/herself and some favorite places in hometown for students. For example, some clothes store and restaurants. 2. Invite students to guess the reason by using the sentences “maybe it has beautiful clothes.” “Maybe you can have delicious food.” Step 2 presentation 1.show the previous question again and paraphrase the answer by using superlative “maybe you can have the most delicious food there.” 2.invite students to paraphrase by themselves Step 3 practice 1. try to fill in the blank with the correct forms of the words and share answers with their partners. 2.guide students to find rules in superlative Step 3 production 1.let students tell the reason why Haidilao hot pot is the best, using “is it because you can… ”to ask teacher to confirm their guess. 2. teacher show reasons at last and invite students to read it together. Step 4 Group work Teacher asks students for help. “what’s the best movie theatre you think I can go to ” teacher can give students a map of movie theatres. Students should work in groups of four to choose the best movie theatre and give their reasons, reporters in each group need to make a report at last. Step 5 Summary 1.
