When a friend asks about your last vacation, some events will come to your mind, like taking a plane for the first time. You probably remember what you did, what you heard and how you felt during the vacation. This is episodic memory*.
Episodic memory allows you to clearly remember past experiences. It’s also easy to understand the events that play an important role in your life. Episodic memory is highly personal, so different people may remember the same event differently. For all people, however, episodic memory often changes over time. ____▲_____.
Get enough sleep. A memory gets consolidated* during sleep. But poor sleep will cause memory loss. In fact, when you can’t sleep for one to two nights, you may have difficulty remembering things.
Take exercise. From heart health to happy feelings, there are lots of reasons to keep your body busy. And studies have found that physical activities can improve episodic memory. What’s more, taking exercise can help you get better sleep, which in turn improves memory.
Have a healthy diet. Your brain* health has to do with the foods you eat. A good diet will make the brain healthier. Among memory-healthy foods are fish and green vegetables.
Keep a diary. Writing down the experiences you have each day is an excellent way to improve episodic memory.
