Rachel Carson is a hero in protecting the environment. Her book Silent Spring lets people know more about the side effects of pesticides (杀虫剂的副作用).
Rachel Carson was born in 1907 in the US. She developed her love for nature on her family's farm. When she was a child, she spent lots of time with animals in fields. As she grew older, her love for the great nature turned into a love for science. She got a degree in biology (生物学)in 1929. While working,
she quickly discovered something terrible about the natural world: the earth's environment was in trouble. To warn people about the dangerous situation, she wrote Silent Spring.
