(一) Status and fun_ction
The material that I am going to say is from the New Goals Students’ book Grade 8 unit 6 Section B, published by People’ Education Press. The main idea of this passage is to help the students develop their language skills in listening, speaking. It also aims to develop students’ abilities of communicating and representing with each other.
(二)Analysis of the teaching material:
In this unit, it shows all kinds of stories. Yu Gong moves the Mountains, Journey to the west, etc. Ss can show interests in the stories and with the teachers’ help, they can tell the stories according to “how, what, who, why” question sentences. This
lesson Is about Unit6 Section B 2a-3b, a fairy tale from the western countries, it’s the first time for Ss to read the text type-play and it’s very important for students to understand the whole play and then they can perform. It is a good chance
to develop their interests.
(二)Teaching aims
1. Knowledge goals:
Tell a story, then the students can tell the story according to the “how, what, who, why” interrogative sentences.
2. Ability goals:
a) To develop the students’ abilities of reading,listening and speaking;
b) To improve the students' ability of communicating and integrating skills
3. Moral goals:
To stimulate students learning interest
To let students take an active part of activities in class
To develop the students’ interest of stories.
(三) Teaching key and difficult points
1. Key points:
To learn about the western fairy tale, read and understand the whole fairy tale ,then try to perform.
2. Difficult points:
It is the first time for students to read the text type –play. Reading the play helps students understand some words and phrases, it is useful for language goals and expression and lead students to express in English.
(四) Teaching Steps
Step 1 Lead in
Let’s come into the fairy world.
Purpose: It aims at the topic of this unit, and recall their memories to their
childhood and lead them into the fairy world.
Step 2 Imagine
Look at the picture and imagine the fairy tale?
(Pay attention to the magic house.)
Purpose: It aims to attract students’ curiosity and lead them to the following
fairy tale.
Step3. Fast reading .
Read the passage quickly and answer the questions.
(Pay attention to the text type, is it a letter, a play, a short story or something else?)
Who are the children in the picture?
2. What is the beautiful house made of?
Step 4. Careful reading
Read para1 and find out the information.
Read scenes 1—4 and fill in the blanks.
Gretel heard their stepmother ____________.
Hansel thought about the first plan, in order not to be lost,
Hansel would drop __________________ along the way.
The result: They ______________ again, that surprised
their parents.
Read the scenes 5—7 and answer the questions.

Read the play again and act it out in groups of four.

Purpose: It aims to make the play vivid and students can put themselves into the fairy tale as they perform, then it can make the Ss take an active part in English class.

Gretel heard that their ________planned to ____ her and her brother.
But Hansel had a plan to ______ himself and his sister. He went to get
some white ______ before he went to bed that night. The next day, the
