We should use both sides of the paper and separate the garbage. Third, we can recycle many things, such as glass, plastic and waste paper. I will take the cloth bags to the supermarket. And we mustn’t drop litter in public places.
I hope everyone will be aware of this problem, so that everyone will work together. So it’s time for actions. Let’s work together to make the earth more and more beautiful.南苑中学2022-2023年第二学期第二次统一作业

The size and shape(外形)of your ears show your character(性格)more than any other part of the face. Other parts of the face change shapes as we get older, but ears do not change their shapes. They only change in size.
Reading people’s character from their ears is a very old science. In the past people thought that a person’s ears with color was dangerous. They also thought that the shape of the ears showed if a person was musical or not. Today, too many people believe that the size and shape of the ears help you know if a person is musical.
Ears are all different, and each different thing has a meaning. Next time you look at a person, see if his or her ears are large,medium-size,or small. Look at the lobes(耳垂). Do they stick to the face Ears that are always red mean that a person may get angry easily. Ears that are always cold and nearly white color mean that a person has a nervous(神经质)character.

I’ve loved my mother’s desk since I was just tall enough to see above the top of it as mother sat doing letters. Standing by her chair, looking at the ink bottle, pens, and white paper, I decided that the act of writing must be the most wonderful thing in the world.
Years later, during her final illness, mother kept different things for my sister and brother. “But the desk,” she’d said again, “it’s for Elizabeth. ”
I never saw her angry, never saw her cry. I knew she loved me; she showed it in action. But as a young girl, I wanted heart-to-heart talks between mother and daughter.
They never happened. And a gulf opened between us. I was “too emotional(易动感情的)”. But she lived “on the surface(表面)”.
As years passed I had my own family. I loved my mother and thanked her for our happy family. I wrote to her in careful words and asked her to let me know in any way she chose that she did forgive(原谅) me.
I posted the letter and waited for her answer. None came.
My hope turned to disappointment(失望), then little interest and, finally, peace— it seemed that nothing happened. I couldn’t be sure that the letter had even got to mother. I only knew that I had written it, and I could stop trying to make her into someone she was not.
Now the present of her desk told, as she’d never been able to, that she was pleased that writing was my chosen work. I cleaned the desk carefully and found some papers inside —a photo of my father and a one-page letter, folded(折叠) and refolded many times.
Give me an answer, my letter asks, in any way you choose. Mother, you always chose the act that speaks louder than words.

Some people think that if they don’t have a yard, they can’t keep a garden. Luckily, that’s not true. For people who live in apartment buildings, there’s another choice(选择): rooftop gardens—gardens on the roofs(屋顶).
Rooftop gardens are very popular in cities. Most building roofs go to waste. Putting a garden on your roof is a nice way to turn an empty space into something pretty and relaxing.
Rooftop gardens are not a new idea. About 2,600 years ago, people in Ancient (古老的) Mesopotamia built rooftop gardens. There were such gardens in Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt. These gardens were very important. Many ancient cities had walls. If an army attacked (袭击) the city, the people hid behind the walls. The army usually tried to burn the city’s food, so the people in the city kept their gardens on top of their walls. That way, they could continue to grow food.
Today’s rooftop gardens don’t keep us alive, but they still have nice benefits(好 处). Plants take in heat to make the whole building cooler. As a result, people in the building use their air conditioners less. It means more electricity(电) will be saved. One study found that if every roof in Tokyo had a garden, the city would save more than a million dollars a day on electricity.
Rooftop gardening is hard. Here are a few tips. First of all, be safe. Build a fence around your garden. You don’t want the wind to blow plants off your roof! Also, remember that rooftop gardens get more sun. If you have a plant that shouldn’t get too much sun, remember to put it in the shade sometimes.
There are many other things to keep in mind before you start a rooftop garden. Do some research and then give it a try. You’ll make your little part of the city much nicer.
65. Why did people in the past have rooftop gardens
A. To grow their crops. B. To make the cities prettier.
C. To make their houses cooler. D. To protect themselves from attack.
66. Most building roofs go to waste. What does this sentence mean
A. People turn the roofs into a waste bin.
B. People don’t use that space for anything.
C. People often throw the waste onto the roofs.
D. People don’t waste time on rooftop gardening.
67. What can rooftop gardens do for a building today
A. To make the whole building cooler.
B. To stop people from throwing rubbish.
C. To produce electricity for the building.
D. To protect the building against the wind.
68. Which of the following is NOT TRUE according to the passage
A. Rooftop gardening is more energy-saving.
B. Rooftop gardens make the city much nicer.
C. Plants in rooftop gardens can get more sun.

Communication is the process by which we exchange information between people. To communicate well is to understand and to be munication can be successful only when both the sender and the receiver understand the same information.
Good communication skills are keys to success in life, work and relationships. Without effective(有效的) communication, a message can turn into error, misunderstanding, or even disaster.
In today's highly informational and technological environment, it has become more important to have good communication skills. Here are some important steps to communicate effectively.
Know what you want to say and why. Understand clearly the purpose of your message. Know to whom you are communicating and why.
How will you say it We all know that it's not always what you say, but how you say it , that matters. Begin by making eye contact. You show trust and confidence when you look at others in the eyes when you speak. Second, pay attention to your body language, since it can say so much more than your words. By standing with your arms easily at your side, you tell others that you are open to hearing what they have to say.
Communication is a two-way street. After you have said what you have to say, stop and listen. Practice your listening skills. Be considerate of others who are talking. Listen carefully and never cut them off.
26.What is communication?
27.What can a message turn into if you don't have effective communication?
