难点分析 从知识角度分析为什么难 In English, there are too many nouns for the juniors to remember. Nouns are also very important in our life. But we have countable and uncountable nouns. They are not very simple to master. Although some obey the rules, others are exceptions.
从学生角度分析为什么难 For students, they always feel frustrated to remember if a noun is countable or uncountable. And sometimes it’s hard for English teacher to explain the reason, because there is no rule for English.
难点教学方法 1. To take as many as possible examples to illustrate. 2. To show the basic knowledge of countable and uncountable nouns. 3. To encourage students to keep reading. 4. To teach the easiest way to find a word if it’s countable or uncountable.
教学环节 教学过程
导入 1. What is a noun A noun can be a person, a place, and a thing. For example: this is my teacher. Teacher is a person, it’s a noun… 2. Two types of a noun. We have countable and uncountable nouns.
知识讲解 (难点突破) 3. Look at countable nouns first. (1)regular forms ① Put a/an in front it. It means a singular. e.g. a dog, a table ② Put an in front it if a noun starts with a vowel sound. A,e,i,o,u. e.g. an elephant, an apple (2)+s ① Most nouns behave like this by adding an “s” e.g. a cabbage cabbages, a pear pears, a schoolbag schoolbags... (3)+es ① “s, c, ch, sh” e.g. bus buses, box boxes, watch watches, dish dishes… (4)y--i+es ① “consonant+y” change y into i plus es. e.g. candy candies ② “vowel+y”+y e.g. boy boys (5)f/fe--v+es e.g. knife knives, leaf leaves (6)exceptions Woman women, man men, child children, foot feet, tooth teeth, mouse mice, sheep sheep… 4. Uncountable nouns (1)no a/an s/es e.g. water money beef (2)singular verb e.g. Your money is on the table. The beef doesn’t taste good. (3)quantity e.g. a packet of rice, three cups of coffee, two pieces of bread… (4)plural verb e.g. Two pieces of bread are enough for me. (5)both countable and uncountable with different meanings e.g. paper, hair, fish… 5. The different usages between countable and uncountable nouns. (1) (2) (3)

小结 There are too many nouns for us to learn. How do you know more nouns if they’re countable or uncountable The easiest way is that in the dictionary when you look up a word, you’ll see a [C] or a [U] next to that word. If it’s countable or uncountable, you’ll know how you can use it.
