Dear Diary,

At first, Jeremy tried to forget the problem. His tooth had hurt ever since he bit down hard on a piece of candy
earlier that week. He had stopped drinking cold drinks and stopped chewing (咀嚼) on one side of his mouth. He had tried
to keep it to himself, but his mother saw through him, so he confessed: Pain. Lower back tooth. Right side.
His mother said he must go to the dentist. That night, after he had finally fallen asleep, he dreamed about the visit

did not stop the car from arriving in the parking lot.
Just one hour later, the drama had ended. “Well, Jeremy, I think we both did very well,” smiled the young dentist.
“I’m so glad we were able to do that simple filling.” Jeremy looked into her kind brown eyes and smiled. She continued,

七、
I took part in lots of activities during my junior high school. Whenever I looked back at them, my memory of
that reading sharing activity is still fresh in my mind.
To let us realize the importance of reading, Mrs. Wang, our Chinese teacher, organized the activity when we were
in Grade 7. There are 40 students in our class. She divided us into 8 groups and there were 5 students in each group. Each of
us was given 10 minutes to share a book we recently read. We were asked to talk about what the book was about, why we
read it and explain what we liked about the book. Several students couldn’t talk anything. I was one of them because I
have no interest in reading. You wouldn’t believe how ashamed I was! Mrs. Wang wasn’t angry with us. Instead, she
encouraged us to read. She told us reading books makes us smarter.
Thanks to the activity, I’ve changed. Now I’ve fallen in love with reading. I find the more I read, the more I’ve learned.
And I have developed a habit of reading at least a book every month. Believe it or not, now I can’t live without books.
They have become part of my life!
