reply 与answer 的区别:
reply ，意为“回答；答复”。较正式的、经过考虑后的答复，它作不及物动词，不可以直接跟宾语。接宾语时必须与to连用。如 “ reply to the question” 对问题的回答。
answer 也有“回答，答复”的意思。用法比较广泛，可指口述或笔写的答复。它可以直接接宾语，如 “answer the question”。也可表示对电话、敲门等作出“应答”
