Dear Sir or Madam,
I’m extremely glad to know our school wants a voluntary guide to greet a group of Australian visitors, so I’m writing to apply for this job.
I was born in a Hakka family. When I was a child, my grandpa often told historical stories to me. I am also enthusiastic about collecting classic Hakka items and visiting Hakka buildings. Besides, I have learned how to perform Tea-picking Opera. What’s more, I have a good command of English, especially oral English. Additionally, I’m easy-going and skilled at communicating.
I would appreciate it if you could consider my application. I’m looking forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Ming

Mom laughed a little at that and gave me a confused look. “Yes!” Not surprised that she didn’t know exactly what I meant, I continued. “When the trees don’t have their leaves on them, they look like chocolate.” After hearing what I said, Mom thought for a little while, then seemed to understand. “Well, they were deep brown, really like dark chocolate. You are right! More importantly, when I thought about them this way, the trees no longer looked so sad and hopeless.” The knot on her forehead relaxed, Mom drove the car in a merry mood. As soon as we got to Aunt Mandi’s room, Mom and I told her about it.
“I love that!” Mandi said, a glimmer of light in her eyes. She gave us a weak smile. Then we chatted happily. We warmed Mandi’s heart, but Mom told me that Aunt Mandi needed to rest. I was going to leave the room when Mom asked Aunt Mandi who was peering out the window. “Looking at the trees ” Aunt laughed. “I was,” she admitted, saying to us. “I was thinking about how some people saw something bare and ugly out there, but you can see chocolate trees. We should all be like that, shouldn’t we ” “We should learn to look for the chocolate. It would certainly make the world a lot sweeter.” I agreed, never feeling so proud.赣州市2022~2023学年度第二学期期末考试

Kristin Schell is the founder of The Turquoise Table, a movement of ordinary people who want to create community right in their own front yards. Ten years ago, she and her husband and their four children moved to a new home in Austin, Texas.
Kristin knew hospitality(好客)was part of her gift, and she tried to connect with her new neighbors by hosting playgroups indoors. But those activities required planning ahead and agreeing schedules, not to mention cooking and cleaning.
One day, Kristin needed backyard furniture for a party and bought a few picnic tables from Lowe's.The delivery driver set one table down in her front yard by mistake, and Kristin couldn't get the image out of her head.“After the party,I painted the table turquoise-my favorite color-and put it in the front yard, just a few feet from the sidewalk,” she says.
That turquoise table became the place where Kristin and her kids hung out. Activities they used to do at the kitchen table, they now did out front at the picnic table. They played games, did crafts and ate snacks.“We got intentional about where we spent our time,” Kristin says. “We became 'front yard people'.”
Neighbors began to stop by to introduce themselves and sit down for a chat. Kristin invited people to join her at the table for coffee or iced tea. “It was a simple way to slow down and connect with others,”she says. The turquoise table was inviting and had a communal feel.
“I've learned that hospitality doesn't always mean entertaining people with a meal or a big party. At the picnic table, all I have to do is show up.”She likes how it enables her to take a small step toward easing loneliness and building relationships in her community. “People's greatest need is to know that they are loved and that they belong,” she says.

Watch out, Lionel Messi. ARTEMIS is here.
Standing at 4 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 85 pounds, ARTEMIS is a first-of-its-kind soccer robot that University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) mechanical engineers developed, and it is ready for the game.
Using cutting-edge technology, ARTEMIS, which stands for Advanced Robotic Technology for Enhanced Mobility and Improved Stability, can maintain its balance against heavy kicks and pushes, stand objects being thrown at it and is capable of running. But what sets ARTEMIS apart on top of that is its ability to kick a ball.
“If your robot cannot even play a game of soccer, how would you be able to use these robots for more important things, such as saving people's lives ” said Dennis Hong, professor of mechanical engineering and director of the Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory (RoMeLa) at UCLA,which developed ARTEMIS.
The technologies used for soccer-playing robots are also being used for other applications like firefighting and disaster relief, said Hong. While ARTEMIS may not be at the next FIFA World Cup, Hong's team will unveil its full soccer capabilities at RoboCup in Bordeaux, France, in July.
The robot's major innovation is that the engineers custom-designed its actuators(驱动器)to behave like biological muscles. They are springy and force-controlled, rather than the rigid, position-controlled actuators that most robots have.
ARTEMIS' actuators are also unique in that they are electrically driven, rather than controlled by hydraulics(液压装置).That means it is quieter and operates more efficiently, while also being cleaner, because hydraulic systems are not welcomed for leaking water.
RoMeLa student Justin Quan said his personal goal is engineering robots that improve people's lives. “Seeing these robots helping push the robot technology to that next level is really rewarding because you have the dream, and it gets closer,” he said.

B.Having soccer skills.
C.Maintaining running speed.
D.Resisting hard attack.
30.What does the underlined word “unveil” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.Recover.
B.Anticipate.
C.Display.
D.Appreciate.
31.What can be inferred about ARTEMIS from the passage
A.The soccer robot will be sent to undertake rescue work.
B.Itsabilities may be shown at the next FIFA World Cup.
C.Its hard actuators behave differently from human's muscles.
D. Its electrically driven systems are superior to hydraulic ones.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My mother had made the drive to visit my aunt, Mandi, for many times. Aunt Mandi was 34 years old, with two children, and had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. It wasn't fair.
Today we went to my aunt's as usual. Along the road, I'd been sitting quietly in my car seat, enjoying the scenery along the way. At this point, I noticed that my mother made the drive on autopilot. Her face was pale, with her forehead knotted in a frown. What was she thinking
Initially I didn't want to disturb her. After a while, I tried asking her gently, “What’s the matter, Mom Are you feeling unwell “But my mother didn't hear me, still lost in thought. I was really worried about her, so I asked her again.
Maybe my concerned words took her back from thinking. After a little while, she responded, “I’m fine, I’m just touched by the scenery. It reminds me of your aunt.” She continued, “The once colorful leaves had all fallen from the trees, leaving them black and bare. The thin trees were blowing wildly, and untidy gray clouds were sailing past a pale, sickly sun. The brown grass and dead trees made me depressed. It was a troubling reflection of what Mandi was going through. The joyful things in her life dropping away one by one, leaving something bitter.”
I began to show great concern for Mom. Then I also looked out of the window. However, what came into my sight was completely different. So I couldn't wait to share the splendid scenery with her.
“The ground is gently covered with gold, red, and yellow leaves. What beautiful colors! The wind catches hold of the colorful leaves and makes them dance about.” Expecting to lift her spirit, I added, “I also see a beautiful blue sky, a shining sun, and...chocolate trees!”
“Chocolate trees ”

1.续写词数应为150左右:
