Volunteers Wanted
In order to create a beautiful and effective learning environment, our school has decided to
redecorate the library. Volunteers are needed to help empty the books into the warehouse.
Volunteers will take responsibility for packing the books by category, carrying them to the
warehouse and designing the labels and catalogues. Students who are willing to help and available for
one hour after school are welcome.
Please note this work may last three days. For further details, contact Student Council.
Your assistance would be highly appreciated!

I called Aline and we had a laugh about me missing the first flight in my life. I have always been
a super responsible perfectionist. I'd flown more than 100 times in the past year, and during most of
the flights I traveled by myself. I had never missed a flight. Never. But I also know I need a good
amount of travel humor to keep my nerves under control. After three tickets, I finally arrived at
Barcelona and had an amazing time there with Aline. But what happened next was totally unexpected
to me.
In fact I did not miss my flight, but instead arrived a whole week early. I realized this fact when I
got an email on Friday reminding me of checking in for my flight the next morning. Laughing so hard,
I handed over the phone with my ticket on it to Aline so that she could check the date. After laughing
for ten minutes straight, I immediately called my family to tell them about this funny travel story.
Sometimes, we should just laugh at those unlucky travel accidents and be flexible during travel.
听力录音原文:
(Text 1)
W: Jim, are you going to China for your holiday this year
M: No. I want to go to Spain, but my mother wants to go to France. So we’re going there.
(Text 2)
W: Look at the sky. It really looks like it’ll rain soon.
M: I don’t think so. It was like this yesterday, but the sun came out finally.
(Text 3)
M: Jenny, I heard you’re going to New York. How long are you staying there
W: For just three days. I’ll return after the conference. So there is no time for doing the shopping or
making a tour.
(Text 4)
W: Sam, how do you spend these long winter evenings It must be boring.
M: Actually I don’t find it boring at all. I can do many things at home. I can read, listen to music and
watch movies. I spend most of my nights reading books and I really enjoy doing that.
(Text 5)
W: What are you doing at the moment
M: I’m learning German at an evening school.
W: Good for you. That must be quite difficult.
M: Yes, but it’s a lot of fun too. We have a very good teacher.
(Text 6)
W: Excuse me. I am a tourist here and I am looking for something local and special here as gifts.
Could you give me some suggestions
{#{QQABIYIUggAAABBAAAACUwEwCkGQkhGCAKgOREAUMEIBiQFABAA=}#}
M:Well, we have quite a few choices here: postcards with our old buildings, handmade cotton hats
and over there some special toys.
W: These hats look very beautiful! How much are they
M: Forty-five dollars each or eighty dollars for the pair. The more you buy, the lower price I can
offer.
W: OK, but I’ll buy one for my mother right now.
(Text 7)
W: Where are you going today, Mark
M: I’m going to the library. What about you
W: I’ll go camping with Linda. Why do you want to go to the library today It’s Friday. We should
have some fun.
M: Well, I have to hand in my report tomorrow morning.
W: Tomorrow morning Didn’t Mr. Smith ask us to hand it in next Monday morning
M: I’m going into town tomorrow afternoon. I won’t return until Sunday night. So I want to hand it
in before I go.
W: Now I see.
(Text 8)
M: Hey, Ashley. How many people are coming to our party tomorrow
W: Well, um, there’s your family; that’s four people. There are three from my work, and then Mike
and Megan who live opposite.
M: So, what is everyone bringing
W: Um, let’s see. Here’s my list. Your brothers are bringing hamburgers and cheese.
M: Oh! I’m glad they do that.
W: My friends from work said that they could buy chips and they’re going to bring a salad.
M: Okay. That’ll work out.
W: And Mike and Megan. You’re going to love this. They’re going to bring some of the corn from
their garden.
M: What about drink
W: Well, your sister is going to bring Coke and juice.
M: Okay. And I will make some pie.
(Text 9)
M: Jane, most of our classmates had a very good holiday this year. Robert went with his family to
the beach.
W: Did he go by car with his family
M: No, his father was too tired after work, so they went by train.
W: Did Michael go on holiday in the summer
M: Yes, he cycled to the mountains.
W: And what about Helen
M: No, she stayed at home this year.
W: Did Katy do anything interesting this year
M: Yes, she always does. She spent the summer on a small island.
W: I think Harry visited his grandma in the summer, didn’t he
M: Yes. His grandma lives on a farm. He likes to go and help look after the farm.
W: And what about Emma
M: She wants to be a pilot when she grows up, and she told me that in the holidays she was going to
travel in space! It’s strange.
W: But it sounds really funny.
(Text 10)
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. Our new Merry Center is opening this September. It has
2,000 car parking spaces, so it is convenient. The center has five areas. The first is Main Street. It’s a
shopping area on three floors. Here, you can buy all the big names. There is also a large
bookstore. Then, located on two levels, Market Square is where you can find traditional stores. Next,
we have Bohemia. Here, you’ll find some shops selling everything from second hand music to
clothes.
The fourth part is The Palisade. There is a children’s playground. You’ll find two banks and a
post office just along The Palisade.
Last, we have The Showground. Here, you’ll find different food from around the world. There is
also an eight-screen cinema.
And if that is not enough, we are offering you 10 off if you do some shopping in the Merry Center
between 10th and 16th September. You can’t afford to miss it!
