What keeps us healthy and happy as we go through life What if we could study people from the time when they were teenagers all the way to their old age to find the answer
The Harvard Study of Adult Development may be the longest study of adult life that has ever been done. Since 1938, we have tracked the lives of 724 men, year after year, asking about their work, home lives, health, and other aspects (方面). With good luck and the hard work of several generations of researchers, this study has survived. About 60 of the original 724 men are still alive, still taking part in the study.
The clearest message that we get from this study is: Good relationships keep us happier and healthier. Over these years, our study has shown that the people who fared best were the people who leaned into relationships, with family, with friends, and with the community.
We’ve learned three big lessons about relationships. First, social connections are really good for us, and loneliness kills. It turns out that people who are more socially connected to others are happier, physically healthier, and live longer than people who are less well connected. Second, the quality of your close relationships matters. Living in the midst of conflict is really bad for our health. Third, good relationships don’t just protect our bodies, but also our brains.
The answer is clear: The good life is built with good relationships. But it’s not easy to have good relationships. Relationships are messy, complicated (复杂的) and hard work. Building good relationships is also a lifelong task. It never ends.
38.What can we learn about the study
A.It is about adult development.
B.Most of the 724 men were born in the 1930s.
C.It was once stopped because of lack of researchers.
D.About 60 researchers have taken part in it.
39. ________ keep us happier and healthier.
A.Family relationships B.Close relationships C.Bad relationships D.Good relationships
40.How many big lessons have they learned about relationships
A.Four. B.Three. C.Five. D.One.
41.What does the author suggest to us
A.Staying away from messy relationships.
B.Building up good relationships with others.
C.Working hard to solve health problems.
D.Trying to live a long and happy life.

47.例文
I’m a 15-year-old middle school student in the countryside. My parents are always busy with the farm work. So doing housework after school is quite normal for me.
Last winter holiday, my grandmother suddenly fell ill and my parents had to send her to the hospital in the city. I was left at home alone for almost two weeks. Every day, I woke up early in the morning, then fed the animals and cleaned the yard. Besides, I had to do my homework and cooked meals for myself.
When my parents came back from the hospital, they were quite surprised to see everything was all right. I think it’s our duty to help our parents do the housework. It can make us understand our parents better and improve the relationship between us.
