I think teachers should understand their students. And I think that teachers should explain things with practical examples and in simple language.
Read the two texts quickly, and answer the following questions.

The texts were written because the student and the teacher remembered how they influenced each other.
The texts’ writers are Graham Lawrence and Brian Jenkins. And Graham was once Mr Jenkins’ student.
They talk about the memories that they have of each other.
Before Graham went to Mr Jenkins’ class Graham was not very good at most school subjects.

Focus on Language
过去完成时表示在过去的事件之前发生的事件或存在的状态。例如:
The police arrested the man who had broken into a jewellery shop.
过去完成时和一般过去时用在同一个句子中体现过去事件发生的顺序。
比较下列句子:
When I arrived, she left. ( I arrived and then she left.)
我到达时她离开了。
When I arrived, she had left. (She left before I arrived.)
我到达时她已经离开了。
Past Perfect 过去完成时
Focus on Language
过去完成时的构成是:
肯定句:主语 + had + 动词-ed(过去分词)...
I had met him before.
否定句:主语 + had + not + 动词-ed(过去分词)...
At that time we hadn’t met her.
疑问句:—Had + 主语 + 动词-ed(过去分词)...
—Yes, 主语 + had. / No, 主语 + had + not.
—Had Tom begun before anyone else did
—Yes, he had. / No, he hadn’t.
