Chinatown的中文翻译是唐人街。有时也称为中国街。它是中国人聚居地和商业区。
唐朝在中国历史上是一个强盛的朝代。在海外的华侨往往称自己是“唐人”，他们聚集的地方就称为唐人街。
唐人街是中华民族在海外的落脚地，在里面的人们可以讲中文，以中国的习惯生活。住在唐人街,就像生活在在中国大陆等其他华人小城一样。

重要句型
1. There’s a Chinatown in New York.在纽约有一个唐人街。
句型“There be(is/are)+某人/某物+地点.”，表示“某处有某人/某物”。当后面接可数名词的单数形式时用is，当是复数形式用are。there 是引导词，没有实际意义。否定句就在be 后面加not。
【例句】There are some apples on the table.桌子上有一些苹果。
【注意】there be 句型的就近原则:
there be句型中的be 应与其后的名词在数上保持一致。如果be 后面接两个或两个以上的名词，be的形式要与邻近它的名词在数上保持一致，这就是就近原则。
【例句】There is a cat and some pictures on the floor.（单）地上有一只猫和一些图画。
There are some pictures and a cat on the floor.（复）
地上有一些图画和一只猫。

there be 句型的一般疑问句就是将be提前到句首，且首字母改为大写，句中如果有some要变成any，句末用问号。肯定答句：Yes, there is/are.
否定答句：No, there isn’t/aren’t.

3. I’m sending an e-mail to my family in China. 我正在给我在中国的家人发送电子邮件。
（1）这是一个现在进行时的句子，表示“发邮件”这一动作正在进行。sending是send的现在分词形式。现在进行时的句型结构为“主语+be动词+现在分词（短语）.”表示“某人正在做某事”。当主语为第三人称单数时，be动词用is;当主语为第一人称I 时，be动词用am,其它情况用are。
(2) send an email to sb.
意为“发邮件给某人”，也可以说“send sb. an email”。意思相近的词组还有 “write an email to sb.”(给……写邮件)。
【例句】Lucy is sending an email to her good friend
=Lucy is sending her best friend an email.
露西正在给她的好朋友写邮件。
