Summertime, i.e. vacation season, is quickly approaching. And whether your ideal getaway is R&R on the beach, outdoor adventuring, or exploring a new city, it pays to plan.
I’d love to get away. How do I save for a vacation
You’re not alone. One study says 71% of Americans are planning to take a trip for leisure in 2022. And they’re planning on spending 29% more than they did pre-pandemic in 2019. But you don’t have to go broke (身无分文) to get a break. Before you even start planning your travel, here’s how to make the trip you’ve been waiting for a reality.
● Make a sinking fund. These funds are where you set aside money with an intention to spend it on a big goal.
● Timing is everything. Research the cheapest places to go when the temperature rises, and plan accordingly. You’ll also get more bang for your buck by checking out destinations with a favorable exchange rate. For somewhere further east, your dollars will go far in Thailand or the Philippines.
● Book smart. Renting a home is often a better deal than booking a hotel. Not only will you save on the price tag, but you can cook instead of eating out for every meal.
How do I keep saving while I’m on vacation
True story: travel doesn’t feel like real life, so it’s easier to splurge (挥霍). And if you’re visiting a popular tourist location, everything costs more. Here’s how to see the sights without losing sight of your budget.
● Set a daily spending limit and track what you buy to avoid overdoing it. Using cash or a prepaid debit card
instead of a credit card can also help.
● Food is a money vampire. If you have access to a kitchen where you’re staying, make breakfast, pack lunch, and cook dinner when you can. If not, hit up a supermarket or farmer’s market for an easy, cheap breakfast. And when you do eat out, go for lunch or appetizers, where the menu items tend to be less expensive.
1 .According to the passage, which of the following may help make your dream trip a reality
A .Preparing enough fast food. B .Borrowing money from friends.
C .Researching the cheapest places to go. D .Carrying credit cards from different banks.
2 .To keep saving while on vacation, you’d better ________.
A .go out for meals B .avoid using cash
C .set a daily spending limit D .visit popular tourist locations
3 .What’s the purpose of the passage
A .To help travellers save money. B .To report some survey results.
C .To advertise some tourist attractions. D .To compare different travel plans.
B
What we choose to do is up to us. “Life is for living”, according to a well-used expression. That may not be completely true, but there is no harm in dreaming about what we’d like to achieve in our life. Many of us write a list of things we’d like to do before we leave this world — often called a bucket list.
Bucket lists have been called “the greatest hits of your life” and have helped some people overcome anxiety which would have stopped them following their dreams. Some of us may choose to write one to fill our life with exciting and new experiences — from skydiving to swimming with sharks — the list is unlimited. This is something the BBC radio programme “All in the Mind” has been looking at. It heard from a blogger called Annette White, who said she made a promise to live her bucket list which “continuously pushes the comfort zone to its limits and beyond it.” Such a list can be exciting and can indeed help you plan your life and give you focus.
Creating a bucket list can certainly give us hope, but Clinical psychologist Linda Blair told the BBC that he was “not really in favour of bucket lists, which take you away from the chance to be spontaneous (顺其自然的).” It’s probably true that a list can encourage people to follow someone else’s idea of the perfect life. But why not at least dream of what we would like to do Why not reach for the stars, even if we only reach the sky Whether we want to plan it or just see what happens, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so maybe we should live for today.
4 .What’s the purpose of “Life is for living” mentioned in Paragraph1
A .To provide an evidence. B .To make an explanation.
C .To make a comparison. D .To draw out the topic to be discussed.
5 .Why is Annette White mentioned by the writer
A .To prove what wide popularity bucket lists are.
B .To explain the working principle of bucket lists.
C .To show the helping functions of bucket lists.
D .To tell us the existing problems.
6 .What is Linda Blair’s attitude towards bucket lists
A .Objective. B .Disapproving. C .Positive. D .Indifferent.
7 .What does the passage mainly tell us
A .Whether we need a bucket list. B .How we can make a bucket list.
C .How we can use our bucket list. D .When we ignore our bucket list.

Mrs. Foxwell is one of the most respected people I know. She is always kind to everyone and she treats others the way that she wants to be treated. She taught me respect in many different ways, but mainly how to be respectful in the business world. She told me that I needed to have a firm handshake and that I should always look people in the eye when I talked to them.
Mrs. Foxwell also taught me that I could earn someone’s respect by working hard to achieve my goals. In addition to working at Brandy wine Springs School, Mrs. Foxwell once worked at a bank as a manager but she gave that up to teach kids how to be successful. Mrs. Foxwell told our class that she would cry because of the amount of work she had to do in very little time. She told our class that working all night at something we don’t love is very stressful, so we should try and do something we love. In the end, she taught me that I have to keep my head high and pull through difficulties. I don’t think I have ever worked as hard in any class as I did in her class. I created my own 28-page business plan to share with her, my parents, other teachers and my classmates. Although creating a business from nothing was a lot of hard work, I really enjoyed it and learned several lessons that will help me throughout life.
I have had a lot of role models in my life, but one of the greatest ones is Eva Foxwell. She taught me leadership qualities, how to be respectful and why I should work hard. She changes my life for the better and I desire to be like her.

To know parents’ influence on students’ learning, researchers studied 438 kids and their parents. Before a school year started, the researchers asked parents to write down how anxious they would feel in different situations connected with math like planning their money spending or checking their house’s size. They also checked their children’s math ability and math anxiety in a school year.
The study found kids whose parents were anxious about math learned less math over the school year. And these kids didn’t perform as well on the tests as those who hadn’t been exposed to math anxiety. Besides, these kids also were more likely to become nervous about math themselves. But these kids only “ caught ” that anxiety if their parents had often tried to help with their homework. This is an example of good intentions having a bad result.
The study’s result appeared in Psychological Science. Erin Maloney led the study. As someone who has personally experienced math anxiety, she says, “ I was always very nervous about math, not only taking tests but also learning the new concepts. So I really tried to balk at math, including finding excuses to miss math tests and not wanting to do math homework. ” It was only after she saw how math could be applied to her passion that she started to enjoy math.
Parents with math anxiety should still support their kids as the kids work on math homework, though. But they should know helping kids with schoolwork requires more than just going over facts and concepts. Parents should help kids look for ways to have fun with math, like playing math-based games. When kids have difficulty in learning, encourage them to bravely face it but don’t make them nervous.
What can students do if they’re already nervous about math Maloney says, “ My earlier study showed that students who wrote about their fears of math for 7 to 10 minutes before taking a math test performed better on that test. After the writing process ,many students said their fears weren’t such a big deal. ”
12 .The 438 kids’ parents were asked to present ______ .
A .their attitudes to school education B .their opinions on kids’ math ability
C .their ways to solve kids’ math anxiety D .their math anxiety levels in their daily life
13 .What result did Maloney’s team report in Psychological Science
A .Kids are more likely to be afraid of math.
B .Some parents pay little attention to their kids’ study.
C .Kids can pick up negative thoughts about math from their parents.
D .Parents should help with their kids’ homework as little as possible.
14 .What does the underlined phrase “ balk at ” in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A .Enjoy. B .Avoid. C .Learn. D .Understand.
15 .What advice would Maloney probably give to students on their math anxiety
A .Working closely with their math teachers.
B .Seeking help during their learning process.
C .Sparing some time to go over their notes daily.
D .Removing math anxiety by admitting it to themselves.

The New Kid in Class
At the beginning of the new term, every student came to school happily. One day, Jack-son, a friendly student, sat at his school desk and looked over at the new kid in class. His name was Billy, who just moved here from Florida. His first day in class was yesterday and, so far, Jackson had not talked to him. Today, at rest, Jackson was going to try to make a new friend.
When the bell rang for a rest, Jackson hurried out of his seat and followed Billy outside. ”Hi Billy,“ Jackson said with a smile as they walked outside. ”Do you want to play basketball “
”No. I’m not very good at basketball. “
”Do you want to play kickball “ Jackson asked again.
”No. I’m not good at that either, “ Billy said. Billy walked away from Jackson and sat on a big flat rock in the grassy part of the school yard.
Jackson stood there and wondered what to do next. He asked Billy to do two things and both times Billy said no. He felt a little depressed. Maybe Billy didn’t like to get along with Jackson. Maybe he didn’t want to be friends. Jackson thought about playing basketball with the other kids. He looked over at Billy sitting on the rock all by himself. It must be hard to move to a new school, Jackson thought. He decided to give it one more try and let him be his friend. What would be a better one He paced backwards and forwards nervously.
It was at that time that Jackson reached into his pocket and pulled out two toy cars that his brother gave him before. His brother has tons of cars and always gives him his old ones. It was the two cars that made him give it one

That may not be completely true, but there is no harm in dreaming about what we’d like to achieve in our life. Many of us write a list of things we’d like to do before we leave this world — often called a bucket list.

just see what happens, we don’t know what tomorrow will bring, so maybe we should live for today.(不管我们是 想计划一下,还是看看会发生什么,我们不知道明天会发生什么,所以也许我们应该为今天而活。)”可知, 这里作者又提出了“也许我们应该活在当下”的观点,所以,本文主要讨论需不需要“人生愿望清单”的话题。 故选 A 项。
