How important is fashion Is looking fashionable more important than being comfortable Many people seem to think so,judging by the things they wear. But fashion is not everything. It is more important to be a healthy and good person.
People go to great lengths to be fashionable. Some people think they have to have a certain body type,so they go on extreme, unhealthy diets in order to change their bodies. In addition, many women wear uncomfortable fashions, such as high-heeled shoes that create blisters(水疱),tight body shapers that limit blood flow, and sticky false eyelashes.Men and women alike spend time and money on products that change their natural hair colour and use hot irons and blow dryers to curl or straighten their hair. Some people spend several hours a day in front of a mirror. Is fashion important enough to spend so much time and effort on changing how you look like
If the purpose of fashion is to make a person feel good,it does not make sense that he or she would go through so much discomfort to be fashionable.Fashion should not come first.People should prioritise(优先考虑) being healthy and positive. What people wear does not indicate anything about their personalities.Instead of spending hours choosing a suit, perhaps you should call your friends and do something together!Instead of going on strict diets and starving, why not eat some healthy foods and then exercise By doing these things, you can keep a healthy lifestyle and truly grow as a person.

Things were not going well for David McCartney on the evening of January 9th,2006.David McCartney, the father of two,was running late to a meeting, and had been stopped for a speeding ticket. But the delay(延误) put him right where he needed to be when Elizabeth Testerman’s car ran out of the road, catching fire and bursting into flames(着火).Thinking fast,McCartney called 911 and ran to Testerman’s car and pulled her out from the car with the help from two others.“I got to save a life,” says McCartney,“so it would end up being a pretty good day.”
That life-changing event led to a long-time friendship with Testerman, who encouraged him to continue to do good things for other people. In 2019,her message inspired McCartney—a distance runner—to donate his kidney(肾脏) to a stranger.Since then,McCartney’s goal has been to run 50-plus-mile marathons in his own state to increase awareness about knowing kidney disease, while also raise money for Team Mason. It is a local organisation that brings awareness to kidney disease.
Though McCartney had donated one of his kidneys,he also had to accept the fact that he never got to meet the person who received his kidney, because he or she chose to remain anonymous.“I would have liked to shake his or her hands,” he explains.“But you can’t know what the person is going through.”
After he recovered from donating his kidney,McCartney finally got back to run—but this time, with a new purpose.“We’re trying to get people involved in all the states,” says McCartney.“We’ve got to take this platform as far as we can.” “It’s a big business,” adds McCartney.“But if the sun is shining,we’re running.”

Earlier this year,my family experienced an unexpected tragedy, which turned my whole world upside down and also caused me to be out of work for three months. It was completely unforeseen and I had no time to put together an out-of-office plan.
I’ve worked at previous companies where this kind of tragedy would have been handled professionally;I would have been given the legally-required money and asked to leave. But at SAS Institute (an American developer of analytics software),my team stepped in and filled in with no questions or hesitations. My work was not left undone. My clients(客户) were patient when those picking up the pieces of projects unrelated to them needed some time to get familiar with the work.My colleagues checked on my family regularly. At last,my manager,my entire team and Human Resources Department helped me back to work at my own pace. They even changed my workspace over a weekend to better suit my personal needs before I even came back to work.
You see,SAS creates a family. The special attention to employee happiness and work/life balance makes that family possible. The flexible work environment enables most employees to create a schedule that best suits their personal needs—whether it’s attending a school play or taking an aging parent to the doctor. The Work/Life Office has a wealth of resources for college planning, anger management, etc. But,as you can see,it doesn’t stop there. Most employees believe that SAS is their family. We rely on each other. We help each other succeed. We celebrate team successes. We hang out after work. Our kids play together. We laugh together and cry together.
Sure,we have a lot of convenience benefits at SAS.But,what really makes a difference to me is the SAS culture that the outside world doesn’t always see:the balance, the companionship, the management support, and the family it allows me to have.
I’m so eager for others to see the side of SAS that I see every day.

Walking is the best form of exercise. It is good for the upper respiratory(与呼吸有关的) system and the legs.It helps us control our weight and blood sugar.Walking is also a good way to help you make more friends, bringing chances to see new things and meet new people.Personally I try to walk at least 5 miles daily.
As well as walking, I also cycle around Xiamen.Cycling is great for weight loss and helps to build stamina(耐力).However, cycling does not allow for the same level of social contact as a walk. It is for this reason that I would strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy.I originally(最初) started walking around Xiamen because I didn’t have a car,but I soon started to enjoy the walking for its own sake.
I have also made many friends during my walks. It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as two or three hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route. These days,if I skip my walk for even one day,the people in the shops may want to know why I don’t come.
I’ll never forget the first time some people followed me when I was walking, and asked if it was okay for them to walk with me.I really didn’t know what to say, so I just replied that I didn’t mind. I have been invited for lunch, dinner and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. There is nothing more pleasant than walking past a schoolyard and hearing all the kids say hello to me.
32.Why did the author have to take a walk at the very beginning
A.Because he wanted to build his body.
B.Because he enjoyed walking.
C.Because he had no car.
D.Because he wished to make friends.
33.The underlined word “skip” in the third Paragraph is closest in meaning to “ ”.
A.jump lightly B.give up
C.leave quickly D.change quickly
34.What can be learnt from the passage
A.Cycling allows for no social contact.
B.Walking is better than cycling.
C.To be healthy,it’s better to cycle.
D.The author prefers walking to cycling.
35.What’s the main idea of the passage
A.Walking does us good.
B.Walking improves health.
C.Walking helps to communicate.
D.Cycling differs from walking.

第一节
Last weekend,we joined in our first sports meeting in high school. It started with the opening ceremony. All of us walked at a steady pace, following our monitor holding our class flag.Everybody was in high spirits.
After the ceremony, the competition began. The most exciting event was the relay race.Their performance left us a deep impression.Meanwhile,on the stand my classmates and I were trying our best to encourage them.
Finally, our class won the second place. Our efforts paid off!We took a picture together, with a smile on everybody’s face.I will never forget it.
第二节
It seemed that the girl was a bit scared. After all,it was getting dark and there was nobody else nearby. With Tom keeping walking behind her,the girl was afraid that he was a bad guy.Tom realised that and wanted to explain the fact to the girl.So he decided to walk faster so that he could catch up with the girl.
Clearly,it frightened the girl even more. She was so scared that she started running. She ran faster and faster and finally stopped in front of a house. She knocked on the door hard, trying to ask for help.Surprisingly,it was Tom’s aunt who opened the door.Seeing the scene,Tom’s aunt immediately laughed and explained the truth to the girl. The girl was embarrassed and said sorry to Tom.Then they recognised each other. The girl was the one whom Tom played with as a little boy. What a small world!
