Traveling to a farm and spending several hours a day getting your hands dirty might sound like an unusual way to spend a vacation.
WWOOF, or “Worldwide Opportunities on Organic(有机的) Farms”, is an organization that helps travelers go on “volunteering vacations” on organic farms. The idea is simple: travelers volunteer on farms for around four to six hours a day in exchange for free accommodation and meals. The duration (时长)of “vacation” could be a few days or a few weeks.
Volunteers may be given different tasks, based on the type of farm they're on. These may include things like gardening, cutting wood, feeding animals, or even making cheese or wine.
But “WWOOFing” is about more than that. The aim is for travelers and farmers to take part in a cultural and educational exchange, while helping people spend time in nature.
At least, that's what Sue Coppard had in mind when she started the organization. In 1971, Coppard was working as a secretary( 秘 书 ) in London, but she wanted to spend more time in the countryside. So, she thought it might be a good idea to stay and work on a farm. And since she worried that she would be lonely, she asked others to join her. After a successful trial weekend at a farm in Sussex, England, with 15 volunteers, more people started showing interest in working on farms, and more organic farmers said they were willing to host workers.
Today, it’s possible to go WWOOFing in more than 130 countries, according to the website. You don't need any farming experience—just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn!
24.What can we know about WWOOF
A.It offers flexible length of holiday. B.It was set up by an experienced farmer. C.It focuses on farming in different ways. D.It is an organization to help people in need. 25.What could we do as a WWOOF volunteer
A. Enjoy urban scenery. B.Do some farm-related work.
C. Raise animals for money. D. Work on the farm remotely. 26.Why did Sue Coppard set up WWOOF
A.She was interested in organic farming. B.She felt lonely every now and then. C.She was tired of being a secretary. D. She loved to get close to nature.
What is the main purpose of the text
A.To promote organic farming. B. To share experiences about farming.
C. To introduce a new way of spending vacation. D. To advertise cultural and educational exchange.

Sports play a key role in the physical and mental development of children. Although it’s great to see a child succeed in one sport, it’s important to keep their activities in balance. Participation in multiple sports enables children to acquire a knowledge of many movement skills. In addition to this, here are some other good reasons why kids should be encouraged to play several sorts of sports.
Repetitive(重复的) movements can overstress(使...负担过重) growing bodies which later on can lead to injuries. With multi-sports, each sport works the body slightly differently. This will lead to fewer overuse injuries. Also, kids who overspecialize(过度专业) in one sport may end up losing interest and eventually give up. Specializing in a sport raises expectations and may put too much pressure on young kids. Having a variety of experiences will keep children interested and motivated, and even make them enjoy sports without any pressure.
Multi-sports also allow kids to experience different roles. Being a goalkeeper in a football team is very different from being a point guard in basketball. Being exposed to baseball develops better hand-eye coordination (协调). Soccer develops better footwork ( 步法). Volleyball develops jumping and hand-eye coordination(一致). Martial arts(武术) develop strength, mobility, and discipline. Swimming develops full-body coordination and strength. The list goes on and on! Participation in multiple sports broadens a child’s developmental social, and situational experience. It opens up opportunities to become a better competitor and a promising athlete — flexible and energetic.
Many sports superstars like Stephen Curry achieved their standing today by playing multiple sports. Curry played basketball but he also played baseball, football, soccer, and everything else in a sports buffet. What worked for Curry, experts say, could work for most of us.
Besides developing a wide range of sports skills, more importantly, multi-sports provide opportunities for children to discover their liking. With the help of the right coaches, sports become fun, inspiring kids’ interests. So if you can’t decide whether your child should focus on one sport or try some different sports, I hope you can make a better decision now.
What will happen to kids if they do one sport repeatedly
A. They can stay more focused. B.They can spare more time to study.
C. They can be skilled at the sport early. D.They can be more likely to get injured.
What’s implied about multi-sports in Paragraph 3
A. They inspire kids’ sporting spirit. B. They help kids develop their special talents.
C. They have much higher requirements for kids. D. They help promote kids’ all-round development. 30.What does the author want to express in the last paragraph
A. Multi-sports help kids find their favorite sports. B. Sports skills make kids more popular at school.
C. Parents should lower their expectations for kids. D. Children should turn their interests into professions. 31.What is the text mainly about
A.How sports benefit kids. B.What sports children should try.
C.Why kids should try multi-sports. D.Why multi-sports are popular today.

Modern research on body language — often called nonverbal behavior — began in the 1960s and 1970s with studies that aimed to demonstrate the universality (普遍性) of facial expressions of emotion. That work was inspired in
part by Charles Darwin’s study The Expression of the Emotions in Man and Animals (1872). But it had received little attention for around a century, according to nonverbal communication expert David Matsumoto.
Then modern researchers examined how the brain reacts to facial expressions and how babies copy facial and hand gestures. And scientists have also realized the complexity (复杂性) of body language.
Much research has suggested that body language is often hard to interpret or understand. But for years some
advisers and experts have been using their knowledge in many practical areas.
“I help people influence and persuade others around, how trustworthy and credible their message is by helping them with their specific nonverbal communication.” said Mark Bowden. He is the author of “Winning Body Language”. a guide for readers including business people and famous people. He focuses on where a person faces their body and how much space they take up, as well as those gestures.
Some experts also say they can use those signals to interpret hidden emotions. Joe Navarro is the author of What Every Body Is Saying. It is a book about reading a person’s mind from their nonverbal behavior. “It’s easy to spar a speaker’s lip movements when he faces a question he doesn’t like.” Joe said.
While the work of these experts attracts large audiences many scientists are unsure whether their methods are reliable. “Our facial expressions show certain types of emotional states.” David Matsumoto said. So do some body movements. “But people do all kinds of things with their bodies.” he said. Your raised eyebrow (眉毛) could express doubt — but in might also signal discomfort or surprise. “The same hand gesture could mean different things in different cultures,” he said.
32.What role did Charles Darwin’s study play according to paragraph 1
A. It unlocked the secret of the human mind. B. It promoted the development of human language.
C. It helped start modern research on body language. D. It encouraged people to care more about animals. 33.What can we infer about Mark Bowden
A. He gives advice on business language. B. He focuses mainly on facial expressions.
C. He pays more attention to spoken language. D. He teaches people about body language. 34.What did David Matsumoto think of Joe Navarro’s methods
A.They were instructional. B.They were doubtful
C.They were experimental. D.They were necessary.
What can be the best title for the text
A. Can body language tell important truths B. Is nonverbal behavior that complex
C. Should you know more about body language D. Do experts know how to interpret emotions

During my six years at the Boyd E. Smith Primary School, I was lucky to have so many great teachers who served as thoughtful (体贴的) role models. They were admirable(令人钦佩的) characters who had far-reaching effects on me in more ways than I could have known. Among them who influenced me the most was my fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Green.
The truth is that Mrs. Green was unlike( 不像是) anyone I had ever known. She had so much energy and
passion( 热 情 ) for the world and for her students that she spent thirty years of her life at Boyd E. Smith. Mrs. Green taught maths. She devoted herself to her work. I would never have imagined that I would have left her class with so much.
Mrs. Green is everything that I want to be. The first time I met her, I knew she was someone special. Being young fourth-graders, we were taught to show respect to teachers as we learned to say “Thank you, madam” and “Yes, madam” on a daily basis. We did not complain about( 抱 怨 ) it. We knew she did it to make us better young adults that would carry on through life with respect for our elders.
Mrs. Green was an amazing teacher for many reasons, as she was intelligent(聪明的) and passionate( 热情的) about what she taught. She did not scold ( 责 骂 ) us, but she taught us to recognize the difference between right and wrong and to be responsible no matter what we did. Looking back upon those days when I was in her class, I realized that she was teaching us qualities that were important to our characters. The most valuable lesson I learned from her was to live with honesty. I had no idea what this word meant until the incident (事情) in a math exam.
