Flights often mean risky security, long layovers and unexpected delays; which can sometimes make for unpleasant travel experiences. Still, your airport journey doesn’t always have to be terrible. Here are some cool airports that will make you forget about all your travel baggage.
Hamad International Airport, Qatar
This airport screams luxury. It features a swimming pool. The airport is also equipped with quiet rooms, ideal for passengers seeking a preflight nap. There is a giant dinosaur robot and a 23-foot-tall Urs Fischer sculpture of a yellow teddy bear.
Changi Airport, Singapore
If you didn’t get enough shopping done during your trip, then Changi Airport is the perfect place for you. There are over 300 retail stores available and two movie theaters—free of charge—for you to take advantage of. There’s also a fascinating butterfly garden. Here, you can find a rainforest-themed garden with about 1,000 butterflies surrounded by flowering plants and a six-meter grotto waterfall.
Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to fly a plane If you have, then head over to the Aviation Discovery Center and hop on the plane cabin simulator. This airport is also home to an IMAX theater and an indoor, multimedia golf course.
Helsinki Airport, Finland
If you have an appreciation for art, then you’ll love your layover in Helsinki. It’s the MoMa of airports, complete with a 24-hour art gallery and aviation museum. There are paintings and art installations all over the building. James Harrison, who was entitled “The Man with the Golden Arm”, has donated blood almost every week, saving more than two million babies in the process.
Harrison told CNN, an American channel, about why he chooses to donate, even though it’s not the most pleasurable experience: “Never. once have I watched the needle go in my arm. I can’t stand the sight of blood, and I can’t stand the pain.”
An amazingly unique antibody (抗体) in Harrison’s blood makes it a true lifesaver for babies who could be affected by rhesus disease.
The condition occurs during some pregnanicies, when a woman who has rhesus-negative blood produces antibodies that destroy her babies’ cells. This can happen when the baby has the same rhesus-positive blood as the father. Rhesus disease can cause health issues in babies. It can even result in death.
Harrison’s blood helped physicians develop an injection called Anti-D in the 1960s, which prevents women who have rhesus-negative blood from developing the harmful antibodies while pregnant. After Harrison completes one of his routine donations, his blood can be used to create more vaccines (疫苗).
“I started donating in 1955, two days after I turned 18,” Harrison said when he completed his 1,075th donation.
As CNN reported, every Anti-D vaccine created in Australia has something to do with a donation from Harrison, who holds the record for the most blood donations in Australia.
“A number of mothers have come up to me and said, ‘Thank you very much for what you’ve done because I now have one, two, three health y children.’” Harrison said.
Harrison’s own daughter, Tracey Mellowship, had been one of the 17 percent of women who need Anti-D during their pregnancy. The injection helped guarantee her second son would be born healthy.
“Dad had always donated—we knew that,” Mellowship said. “But it didn’t hit home until I was pregnant and knew the consequences.”
24. From the first two paragraphs we can infer that Harrison is ______.
A. humorous and smart B. optimistic but weak
C. friendly but nervous D. brave and unselfish
25. Babies who are affected by rhesus disease ______.
A. grow problematic cells B. can’t form blood themselves
C. develop the disease after being born D. have the same blood type as their mothers
26. Harrison’s blood can ______.
A. help patients develop Anti-D B. cure rhesus disease affected babies
C. avoid the risk of rhesus disease D. stop babies from producing antibodies
27. Before Mellowship was injected Anti-D, her family didn’t ______.
A. understand the meaning of Harrison’s act
B. expect she would have another healthy son
C. know Harrison held a record for donating blood

In a foreign country, a man visited a local restaurant. He didn’t speak their language. He ordered something indecipherable (难以辨认的) off the menu. When the waiter brought him a plate of delicious looking fried noodles, he smiled and made an OK sign at the waiter with his thumb and forefinger linked in a circle. Looking angry, the waiter then picked up the dish and thrown it to his lap. What he did wrong, he wondered. Well, nothing is quite as it seems when it comes to using hand gesture in another country.
Gestures have been used to replace words in many countries, and they are often specific to a given culture. Gesture may mean something complimentary in one culture, but is highly offensive in another.
The gesture “thumb-up” is commonly misinterpreted. In English, it is popularly known as “thumbs up”, despite the fact that the action is commonly performed with only one hand. English-speaking Caucasians use it to signal “OK”, which is the same meaning as OK ring gesture. The two can in fact be used almost interchangeably.
Avoid using this gesture in Northern Greece unless you want to invite a fight. While American, British and Australian would use the thumb-up to signal hitch-hiking to the drivers, this message will not encourage a Greek driver or motorist to stop to give them a ride.
There are no right or wrong signals, only cultural differences. Lack of cultural understanding will lead to disharmony among people from different cultures. When we know what to look for, such encounters with other cultures are actually very interesting, fascinating and fun. It is certainly a great topic to discuss over a cup of coffee and cakes.
28. What did the man in the first paragraph do wrong
A. He misunderstood the waiter. B He didn’t realize cultural differences.
C. He ordered something off the menu. D. He made the signal in a rude way.
29. What does the underlined word in the second paragraph mean
A. Full of admiration. B. Full of aggression.
C. Full of complexity. D. Full of certainty.
30. What will happen if you make a thumb up to ward a man in Northern Greece
A. He will stop to give you a lift.
B. He will get annoyed and fight against you.
C. He will ask you to give him a lift.
D. He will make the same signal toward you.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage
A. To explain the meaning of different gestures.
B. To tell stories about different cultures.
C. To advise us to have an understanding of cultural differences.
D. To persuade people from different countries to live in harmony.
D
Ever feel like scratching yourself when you see others doing it You’re probably not alone. This practice, which seems to be socially contagious (传染的), could be more than just a sudden urge. This is according to the latest finding from Washington University.
The researchers studied mice to see what went on in their brains when they saw other mice scratching. During the experiments, a mouse was placed in front of a computer screen to watch another of its kind scratching. A few moments after watching the video, the live mouse would start scratching. The finding is interesting because earlier studies had shown that mice only show empathy (共鸣) with individuals they know and that the mouse on the screen was a stranger for the live mouse. This means that empathy may have nothing to do with the need to scratch.
When the researchers analyzed the brain activity of the mice after viewing the video, they recorded increased level of gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP). In the previous research, GRP is found to be responsible for transferring the itch (痒) feeling between the brain and the skin. However, when researchers blocked the GRP’s function, the mice simply stopped scratching in response to seeing other mice scratching. This means that mice have no control over their scratching when seeing peers scratching. The mouse doesn’t see another mouse scratching and then thinks it might need to scratch. Instead, its brain begins sending out itch signals using GRP as a messenger.
It’s not clear if the exact same pathway exists in humans. But the team believes the study could help throw light on the neural mechanisms (神经机制) behind contagious behaviors in human beings. The next time you scratch in response to someone else doing it, remember it’s really not a choice, nor a psychological response; it’s hardwired into your brain.
32. What have the latest experiments found
A. Mice only imitate the act of their familiar peers.
B. Mice prefer the mice on a computer screen to the live ones.
C. Mice feel the need to scratch when seeing another scratching.
D. Mice just have to scratch when seeing another scratching.
33. What can we learn about GRP
A. The mouse decreased its GRP when seeing other mice scratching.
B. GRP is meant to block the itching and scratching feeling.
C. Without GRP’s function, the mice wouldn’t copy the scratch.
D. GRP exists and functions the same in human brains.
34. What does the underlined word“hardwired” in the last paragraph probably mean
A. Changed. B. Mended. C. Stopped. D. Fixed.
35. Which is the best title for the text
A The Contagious Scratch B. The Clever Imitation
C. The Strange Behavior D. The Common Response

1. Have deliberate conversations about money.

2. Give them a modest allowance.
A child who is old enough to count is old enough to get allowance. The amount should be an age-appropriate amount where stuff they’ll want will require at least a few weeks of saving to buy 38 Normal chores (家务) are part of being in a family, not about getting paid.

4. Be a good financial role model.
40 So remember that you’re constantly sending financial cues to the children in your life in ways big and small. Be a good financial role model by using examples from your own life to teach them things they should and should not do with their money. Handle your money the way you’d want them to handle their own.
A. Children are always curious.
B. Money matters a lot in our daily life.
C. Don’t tie this money to chores, either.
D. Create opportunities for extra earnings.
E. Children learn by observing adult behavior.

A few years ago I worked in an international company that sold computer devices. I had to travel a lot over the country as a part of my work. I remember that I was at a stage of my life where I only cared about how to make more money.
On one of my trips, I came to the airport to take a bus to downtown, as usual. It was the same routine: get into the city, take the bus to the hotel, visit the customer, work late, take the bus back to the airport and fly back... That day, for some reasons, I decided to take the stairs down to a different exit, where I came across a beautiful garden I had never seen before. I waited there, enjoying the scenery. Finally the bus came.
Usually I always took the seat behind the driver. That day I sat down somewhere in the middle. A boy was seated next to me, carrying a lot of suitcases. Suddenly, he turned to me and gave me one of the most sincere smiles I had ever seen from a stranger. Warmly, he said, “Hi, the perfect day in the perfect place, huh ”
I remember thinking to myself—this must be one of those typical people who are young and innocent and just think everything is beautiful and easy. Why was he annoying me when I just wanted to enjoy the bus ride But out of politeness, I replied, “Perfect! Did your parents pay for you to have some vacations on the beach ” “No, I’m not here for vacation, and I don’t have parents,” he shook his head. “I’m here because I want to achieve my biggest dream. I’m on the way to the army school where my grandfather studied a long time ago.”
