The Lantern Festival
The Lantern Festival
It had become a festival with great significance. During the Lantern Festival, children go out at night carrying paper lanterns and solve riddles on the lanterns.
The Lantern Festival
Tangyuan, literally: "soup ball" is a Chinese dessert made from glutinous rice flour(糯米粉) mixed with a small amount of water to form balls and then either cooked and served in boiling water with fermented glutinous rice(糯米酒酿), or sweet syrup(甜糖浆) or deep fried(油炸的).
The Lantern Festival
Tangyuan can be either small or large, and filled or unfilled. They are traditionally eaten during Yuanxiao or the Lantern Festival, but also served as a dessert on Chinese wedding day, Winter Solstice Festival(冬至节), and any occasions such as family reunion, because of a homophone for union.
The Lantern Festival
The meaning of dragon and lion dance is that it can bring good luck. They are always used to celebrate the Spring Festival or some celebration activities. Lion dance and dragon dance symbolize bravery and auspiciousness(吉兆). In traditional Chinese customs, lion dance is believed to have exorcism effect(驱魔), and people hope to suppress it with lion dance to show their power and strength.
