The number of nouns
Design Ideas
English Curriculum Standard explicitly points out that lessons should be designed based on the students' interest in learning, life experience and cognitive level. The students’ experience, practice, participation, cooperation and various learning methods should be advocated to improve their English, form positive emotional attitude, be able to think actively, practice bravely, enhance cross-cultural awareness, and form a habit of autonomous learning. So I designed a variety of teaching activities and tried to use different methods to stimulate their interest in learning so that they can actively participate in teaching .
Background Information
This lesson is a review lesson for grade 3 high school students. At the age of 17-18, the students have a certain level for part of speech.They have developed basic abilities vocabulary and are able to understand the rules of nouns with the teacher’s help. They are curious, active. They enjoy learning through cooperation in a relaxing atmosphere. They also have been used to different types of grouping, so classroom activities are easy to be organized. The lesson lasts for 45 minutes.

Teaching Objectives
By the end of the lesson, the students should: 1st The knowledge objective: 1. be able to understand and use the rules of plurallizing nouns to finish the questions. as “expression, discover, secret, look up, etc.” 2. be able to know and use the main rules to discuss and exchange ideas with classmates about the rules of plurallizing nouns. 2nd The ability objective: 1. be able to use these rules to make right sentences and write composition. 3rd The emotional objective: 1. be able to adjust their learning methods forwardly and choose suitable learning strategies and solutions according to their own learning features. 2. have the awareness and determination to do things by using scientific ways. 3. have the awareness to cooperate with others through teamwork and pair-discussion. 4. have more interest in English learning.
Important Points and Difficult Points
The important points: 1. to get an overall control of the whole rules. 2. master the usage of “ rules of plurallizing nouns.” The difficult points: Students should be able to use the rules of plurallizing nouns to make sentences with others, be able to adjust their learning methods forwardly and choose suitable learning strategies and solutions according to their own learning features.

Step 1 (Lead-in) (2 mins) 1. Greeting 2. Revision: Take a look back at the usage of “ rules of plurallizing nouns.” Students may answer:Generally,we used to add “s” for countable nouns. A good greeting attracts students’ attention and creates a relaxing and friendly climate for learning. Revision helps students review and consolidates what they have learned effectively.
Step 2 (Presentation) (3 mins) Step 3 Production( 9 mins) After recalling what we have learned before, teacher is going to list out the rules of plurallizing nouns. 一般情况下加-s; 例如:map→maps 以-s,-x,-ch,-sh结尾的名词,加es. 例如:class→classes 辅音字母加-y结尾的名词,把-y改-i再加-es 例如:city→cities 以o结尾的词,有生命加es, 无生命加s . 以f或fe结尾的,把f或fe变ve加s,例如:leaf-leaves shelf-shelves Ask students to finish some task using what we have learned . Students will take notes in their notebooks and try their best to memorize these rules.
