Things to do in Miyakojima Fresh island food
Delight your senses with juicy, melt-in-your-mouth Miyako beef, delicious Miyako soba (noodles served in broth), or fresh fruit. Ice cream with a pinch of salt known as “yuki shio (snow salt)” does more than simply keep you cool.
Unique beaches
Yonaha Maehama Beach is the most famous beach in Miyakojima, where white sand stretches for seven kilometers. The ocean is colored in emerald blue, mesmerizing visitors with its beauty. Compact Sunayama Beach, known for its arch-shaped rock, is hidden in a small cove, and can only be accessible by walking through a narrow tunnel of trees.
Diverse and colorful fish
Snorkeling (浅滩潜水) is a must-try in Miyakojma. Dense coral reefs, schools of tropical fish, sea turtles and plenty of space to free dive to depths of 8 to 15 meters close to the shore are standout features. For beginners, Aragusuku and Shigira are a good choice but advanced snorkelers may see Imgyo Marine Garden, Waiwai Beach and Shimojishima as their perfect spots.
Scuba diving
Miyako Island is a diving mecca (圣地), with a wealth of dive sites to explore, including many underwater caves and caverns. Even those without a diving license need not be held back. Dive shops and tour operators also offer beginners tours to explore Miyako Island’s abundant underwater environment.
The bridges
Irabu Bridge is the longest toll-free bridge in Japan. It connects Miyakojima and Irabujima, stretching for 3540 m, drawing a gentle curve (弧线). The length of the bridge can also be read as “san (3) go (5) no shi (4) ma,” meaning coral island in Japanese. Smaller bridges connect Irabu Bridge and Shimoji islands, giving visitors additional beach options. On Shimoji Island, there is a boardwalk around Tooriike, two dramatic marine ponds connected to each other and the sea by an underwater cave system.

A.Shimojishima. B.Waiwai Beach.
C.Imgyo Marine Garden. D.Aragusuku and Shigira.

The bicycling craze came in when we were just about at the right age to enjoy it. At first even “safety” bicycles were too dangerous and improper for ladies to ride, and they had to have tricycles. My mother had (I believe) the first female tricycle in Cambridge; and I had a little one, and we used to go out for family rides all together; my father in front on a bicycle, and my poor brother Charles standing miserable on the bar behind my mother. I found it very hard work, pounding (轰隆隆行进) away on my hard tyres; a glorious, but not a pleasurable pastime.
Then, one day at lunch, my father said he had just seen a new kind of tyre, filled up with air, and he thought it might be a success. And soon after that everyone had bicycles, ladies and all; and bicycling became the smart thing, and the lords and ladies had their pictures in the papers, riding along in the park, in straw boater hats (硬草帽).
My mother must have fallen off her bicycle pretty often, for I remember seeing the most appalling cuts and bruises (青肿) on her legs. But she never complained, and always kept these mishaps (灾祸) to herself. However, the great Mrs Phillips, our cook, always knew all about them; as indeed she knew practically everything that ever happened. She used to draw us into the servants’ hall to tell us privately: “Her Ladyship had a nasty fall yesterday; she cut both her knees and sprained her wrist. But don’t let her know I told you.” So we never dared to say anything. Similar little accidents used to occur when, at the age of nearly seventy, she insisted on learning to drive a car. She never mastered the art of reversing (倒车), and was in every way an unconventional and terrifying driver. Mrs Phillips used to tell us: “Her Ladyship ran into the back of a milk-cart yesterday; but it wasn’t much hurt”; or “A policeman stopped her Ladyship because she was on the wrong side of the road; but she said she didn’t know what the white line on the road meant, so he explained and let her go on.” Mrs Phillips must have had an excellent Intelligence Service at her command, for the stories were always true enough.
4.According to the passage, which of the following statements is true
A.Bicycling demanded too much hard work for women.
B.Bicycling was considered unsafe and unladylike then.
C.Women preferred to ride tricycles because tricycles could carry young children as well.
D.Tricycles were more convenient for women to ride.
5.What made it possible for bicycling to become popular among women
A.The writer’s father popularized it.
B.Air-filled tyres began to be used.
C.Noble people started enjoying it.
D.Newspapers had pictures of cyclists.
6.What does the underlined sentence in the last paragraph imply
A.Mrs Phillips served as a spy as well as a cook.
B.Mrs Phillips was in command of all the servants as an Intelligence Service.
C.Mrs Phillips was the most knowledgeable cook they had ever met.
D.Mrs Phillips had an outstanding ability to gather information.
7.The writer’s mother was stopped by a policeman one day because ________.
A.she failed to follow the road system
B.she was too old as a driver then
C.she could not control the car
D.she behaved too proudly

The Swiss have always had a comfortable relationship with their mountains. But no time in a year seems to show that special connection quite like the beginning of summer. That’s when conservationists(环境保护者) make the difficult journey up those towering heights while bearing large white blankets.
The grand plan To cover critical sections of the Rhone Glacier - six square miles of ice that is counted as the country’s oldest and most essential glacier v in the UV-resistant (防紫外线的)blankets. While it may seem a gentle gesture, like a mother taking care of a child for the night, the idea isn’t to keep the glacier warm. It’s actually the opposite. The blankets are designed to deflect (使偏斜)the sun’s light, covering the huge glacier up like a freezer bag in the hope of protecting it from the strong heat of the summer sun. And these days, the world’s glaciers need all the help they can get. With the planet getting warmer every year, glaciers have been melting at a rapid rate.
In Switzerland, climate change has increased the Rhone Glacier’s typical summer melt which feeds Europe’s famous Rh ne River. As a result, more and more people have taken up protecting the glaciers with blankets. By covering approximately six acres of the glaciers, the blankets, Volken explains, have reduced the ice melt by as much as 70 percent. But it has made the slope (斜坡)we’re on only slightly less slippery. And unless people — the main culprits in climate change — make fundamental changes to address the bigger picture, there won’t be enough blankets in the world to ward off the disastrous consequences of rising sea levels.
And those dreamy white blankets covering the Rh ne Glacier “It will slow things down for a year or two,” Jean-Pierre Guignard, who visited the glacier decades ago when it was much bigger, tells Metro, a British newspaper. “But one day people will have to take away the blankets because the ice underneath will be gone.”
8.Why do conservationists climb up the mountains in early summer
A.To keep the glaciers warm enough.
B.To do some research on the glaciers.
C.To appreciate the beauty of the glaciers.
D.To stop the glaciers from melting too fast.
9.We can infer from Paragraph 3 that the blankets ________.
A.have played a great role in protecting the glaciers
B.are in great need during summer in Switzerland
C.can help protect the glaciers in the long run
D.will probably cause sea levels to rise
10.What does the underlined word “culprits” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean
A.Researchers. B.Monitors. C.Offenders. D.Protectors.
11.What is Jean-Pierre Guignard’s attitude towards the future of glaciers
A.Contradictory. B.Negative. C.Uncertain D.Optimistic.

If you do not use your arms or your legs for some time, they become weak;when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault. But if he tells us that he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(受责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault.
Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things;they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people practice remembering.
12.The main reason for one's poor memory is that _________
A.he does not use his arms or legs for some time
B.his father or mother may have a poor memory
C.his memory is not often used
D.he can't read or write
13.If you do not use your arms or legs for some time _________
A.they become weak and won't become strong until you use them again
B.they will become stronger
C.they will become neither stronger nor weaker
D.you can't use them any more
14.The passage is mainly developed by _________
A.analyzing causes B.making comparisions
C.following the time order D.examining differences
15.Which is the main idea of this passage?
A.Don't stop using your arms or legs.
B.People need to learn from others.
C.It's about strong arms and good memories.
D.Learn how to have a good memory.
2、七选五部分(每题2.5分,共5题,满分12.5分)
Failure is a word that no one wants to hear. It is human being’s biggest fear yet it is faced by every human being. Sometimes, people’s fear of it is their biggest barrier to success. 16 Here are some tips which can help you get on the positive side of life.
17 Before starting anything that you think will give you success, promise yourself that you will never give up. This promise helps make your mind ready for both failure and success. Remember that it is never too late to do so.
Learn from your mistakes. This is the opportunity that you should not let go of. Suppose you are on a football ground, you strike the ball for 9 times in a row and fail. 18 The tenth attempt proves that you have somehow learnt from your mistakes.
Never think that you’ve got only one plan. The worst thing you can do after failing in some projects is thinking that it was the only plan you could ever think of. There is always another way. 19 If you are into achieving something, no one or nothing in this world can stop you.
Keep a positive attitude. This is the most important thing that you need to live a happy life. Always think positive. Never let yourself down. 20
A.Never give up.
B.Keep confident all the time.
C.But at the tenth attempt, you succeed.
D.If Plan A fails, turn to Plan B or Plan C.
E.Therefore, you need to learn how to deal with failure.
F.Positivity is all we need to grow and establish ourselves in this world.
G.What if nothing comes to you but missing the kick after you try the last shoot

On the first day at high school, I 36 (wake) up early and rushed out of the door in 37 (eager) to get to know my new school.
In the English class, my English teacher, Mr. Meng said that life was full of sunshine. 38 (fortunate), challenges in high school might put us under pressure. Anyway, we should prepare 39 (we) for the unknown. Besides, I learnt more about English. English is interesting and creative. For example, there is no egg in eggplant at all and there is no ham in hamburger. What’s more, it is not easy 40 (understand) why while “hard” is the opposite of “soft”, “hardly” and “softly” are not an opposing pair. In fact, the reason 41 English can be so mad is that it was invented by people, and it 42 (reflect) the creativity of the human race.
In the afternoon, we watched a play about the generation gap in family matters. A boy appeared with a 43 (disappoint) look and argued with his father about his future career in music or in law after he left school. When they argued, the grandfather told both of them to calm down. I was eleven years old standing outside in just my underwear while I watched the house that I grew up in rapidly burn to the ground. A few minutes earlier I had been sound asleep in my nice, warm bed when a scream woke me up.
My grandmother’s bedroom was just next to mine and my brother’s, A fire had broken out there and awakened her. Hearing her my older brother had sprung into action. While I stumbled around in the smoke and darkness he ran from room to room quickly waking everyone in the house. The house, however, was over 50 years old and made of wood. Before we could do anything the fire consumed it. We all barely made it outside before the flames engulfed every room. I stood there shivering while the fire destroyed my books, clothes, and toys. I watched helplessly while my Mom cried and my Dad swore. I wondered what was going to happen to us now that we had lost all of our things. As I looked around, though, I realized something for the first time: The things that matter, aren’t things.
I saw my older brother running across the swinging bridge by our house to get help. I saw my oldest brother who was on crutches from an earlier accident standing unsteadily on one leg. I saw my grandmother and Dad huddled together and my Mom holding our little dog in her arms.

47.I realized at that moment that we were all alive. We sat down on the ground in relief. The family turned to each other, with our eyes full of tears with fear. I had never been so scared in all my life. Luckily, everything that was essential had survived the fire. Our lives would continue. We would survive without the "stuff" that was burning. We would all be around to love each other for many years to come. And that was all that mattered.
I still think of that fire in the night that helped me to become who I am today. It showed me for the very first time what is truly essential in this life. It helped me to learn that the love we share is far more important than the things we possess. Live your life then for the things that matter, not for the things you own. Love others. Help everyone. Let the fire inside of you make this world a warmer place.
