【Text 8】
I’m sorry to say that any weekend plans may need to be canceled, whatever they are. We thought the last of the winter snow had fallen, but there is now a severe weather warning from Friday all the way until Tuesday for heavy snowfall, with at least 12 inches predicted to fall on Saturday alone. This will be followed by up to 8 inches on Sunday and another 6 on Monday. The police are urging people only to travel if it’s essential. Temperatures will be extremely low during the snowstorm, with a predicted low of -12 °C on Saturday and a high of -3 °C. Because it’s going to be so cold, make sure that your heating is working and run hot water regularly to stop your pipes from freezing and breaking. Have enough supplies to last for 7 to 10 days, as roads are likely to be blocked or closed due to the ice. We have a number of tips and emergency contact details on our website. Until then, please stay safe and remember, do not travel unless it is essential to do so.

【Text 8】
Northern India is now suffering from a heat wave with temperatures reaching 47℃.
A blanket of hot air has settled on India’s capital New Delhi, making the usually busy streets quiet and somewhat lonely. In the past two years, people dying from heat-related illnesses in India have fallen sharply, from about 2,000 in 2015 to half that number in the following year, and to a little over 200 in 2017.
According to a law passed in India in 2013, when temperatures rise to some degree which may cause extreme damage to human body, school days will be reduced, government projects will stop, and free water will be given in busy areas. India is aiming to reduce the number of deaths from extreme heat to zero in the next few years.
The government officials said that so far this year, the heat has killed 11 people. Temperatures will drop across India at the end of this month with the arrival of the rainy season.
