Passage B
Probably no other musical instrument is as popular as the guitar. Musicians use the guitar for almost every kind of music. Country and western music would not be the same without a guitar. The traditional Spanish folk music called Flamenco could not exist without a guitar. The sound of American blues music would not be the same without the sad cry of the guitar. And rock and roll music would almost be impossible without this instrument.
Some music experts say an instrument very much like a guitar was played in Egypt more than one thousand years ago. Some other experts say that the ancestor of the modern guitar was brought to Spain from Persia sometime in the twelfth century. The guitar continued to develop in Spain. In the 1700s, it became similar to the instrument we know today.
Many famous musicians played the instrument. The famous Italian violinist Niccolo Paganinni played and wrote music for the guitar in the early 1800s. Franz Schubert used the guitar to write some of his famous works. One kind of music for the guitar developed in the southern area of Spain called Adalusia. It will always be strongly linked with the Spanish guitar. It is called Flamenco.
In the 1930s, Les Paul began experimenting with ways to make an electric guitar. He invented the solid body electric guitar in 1946. The guitar has always been important to blues music. With the electric guitar, Les Paul helped make modern blues music possible. There have been many great blues guitarists. Yet, music experts say all blues guitar players are measured against one man and his famous guitar. That man is B. B. King. Every blues fan knows that years ago B. B. King named his guitar Lucille. Here B. B. King plays Lucille on his famous recording of “The Thrill Is Gone”. Lucille, B. B. King's large, beautiful black guitar, is important to American music. Visitors can see King's very first guitar at the Rock and Soul Museum in Memphis, Tennessee. The museum is the only permanent exhibit organized by the Smithsonian Institution outside Washington, D. C., and New York City.
24.Where did the modern guitar finally come into being
A.Egypt. B.Spain. C.Persia. D.Italy.
25.What do we know about Flamenco
A.It is the name of a famous musician. B.It is related to Spanish guitar.
C.It is also called Adalusia. D.It is the name of a guitar.
26.What does the last paragraph mainly tell us
A.The electric guitar promoted the development of the blues.
B.The musician B. B. King named his guitar Lucille.
C.The Rock and Soul Museum first opened in Memphis.
D.The exhibit was first organized by the Smithsonian Institution.
27.What would be the best title for this passage
A.Traditional Folk Music B. Flamenco and Guitar C. Violinist and Blues D. Guitar and Music
Passage C
What is the secret of happiness A new study finds that happiness comes from exercise. People who exercise actively bring themselves happiness equal to earning an extra $25,000 a year.
Instead of recording extra hours at work in hopes of getting a raise, maybe you should hit the gym instead, as it could make you just as happy as that extra money. An interesting new study, published in the Lancet, found that people who are physically active have a greater sense of well-being than those who are inactive—and that active individuals feel as good as inactive people who earn $25,000 more per year.
Researchers from Oxford and Yale Universities used data gathered from more than 1.2 million Americans. They were asked, "How many times have you felt mentally unwell in the past 30 days, for example, due to stress, depression, or emotional problems " Participants were also asked about their exercise habits and were able to choose from 75 diverse physical activities, including doing housework and childcare, running, weightlifting, and cycling. The researchers found that people who exercise regularly feel bad for an average of 35 days per year, while inactive people feel bad for an additional 18 days.
All exercise types were associated with a lower mental health burden. Social physical activities (that is to say, team sports such as football, basketball, etc) had an even more positive effect, which can best help people relax mind.
It is possible for some to get too much exercise. From Business Insider's report on the study, "The mental health of those participants who exercised for longer than three hours a day suffered more than that of those who weren't particularly physically active." The ideal amount seems to be three to five training sessions per week, lasting 30 to 60 minutes each.
But the conclusion should be that any amount helps, so don't stress about hitting that perfect balance:"All exercise types were associated with a lower mental health burden than not exercising."
28.The question asked in Paragraph one is meant to_______.
A.introduce the researchers. B.tell the secret. C.draw a conclusion. D.lead to the topic.
29.Which exercise below can help us relax mind most effectively
A.Running. B.Walking alone. C.Playing football. D.Keeping fit in the gym.
30.According to the passage, the following are true EXCEPT that _______.
A.people who exercise actively may feel bad for about 35 days per year
B.The more exercise you take, the higher mental health burden you will get
C.overdoing exercising will do harm to people’s mental health
D.doing exercise is better than not doing it
31.What is the main idea of the passage
A.Exercise can bring as much pleasure as an income rise.
B.The secret of happiness has nothing to do with wealth.
C.Choosing the right form of exercise is of vital importance.
D.The key to keep young is to exercise regularly.
Passage D
In colleges around the country, most students are also workers.
The reality of college can be pretty different from the images presented in movies and television. Instead of the students who wake up late, party all the time, and study only before exams, many colleges are full of students with pressing schedules of not just classes and activities, but real jobs, too.
This isn’t a temporary phenomenon. The share of working students has been on the rise since the 1970s, and one-fifth of students work year round. About one-quarter of those who work while attending school have both a full-course load and a full-time job. The arrangement can help pay for tuition (学费) and living costs, obviously. And there’s value in it beyond the direct cause: such jobs can also be critical for developing important professional and social skills that make it easier to land a job after graduation. With many employers looking for students with already-developed skill sets, on-the-job training while in college can be the best way to ensure a job later on.
But it’s not all upside. Even full-time work may not completely cover the cost of tuition and living expenses. The study notes that if a student worked a full-time job at the federal minimum wage, they would earn just over $15,000 each year, certainly not enough to pay for tuition, room, and board at many colleges without some serious financial aid. That means that though they’re sacrificing time away from the classroom, many working students will still graduate with at least some debt. And working fulltime can reduce the chance that students will graduate at all, by cutting into the time available for studying and attending classes.
There is little reward for attending but not finishing college. Students who wind up leaving school because of difficulty in managing work and class are likely to find themselves stuck in some of the same jobs they might have gotten if they hadn’t gone at all. The difficulty of working too much while in school can create a cycle that pushes students further into debt without receiving any of the financial or career benefits.
32.According to the passage, the reality of college students is that ______.
A.they throw parties a lot B.they stay up late every night
C.they pay no attention to exams D.they work besides attending classes
33.What is the indirect cause of an increasing number of working students
A.The need of developing social networks. B.The lack of summer jobs for young adults.
C.The chance of finding a job after graduation. D.The expenses of high tuition and living costs.
34.We can learn from the passage that ______.
A.working students are more likely to finish college
B.students can cover their college expenses through working
C.students receive a huge reward for managing work and class
D.dropping out of college may not help students get career benefits
35.What is the best title for the passage
A.The Difficulties of Landing a Job B.The Struggle of Work-School Balance
C.The Reward of Working While Studying D.The Images of Working College Students

I live in a city where jobs are difficult to get and if you want to find a well-paid job, it will be even harder. Therefore, it is not surprising for you to see many people in our city walk a long way because they can’t even afford an old used car.
It was a cold windy day. I saw one of these people who often have to walk from and to work every day, when I was driving after work. A middle-aged man wearing only a thin overcoat was walking down the road and trying to ask for a ride from the passing cars.Unluckily, there was no driver willing to stop their cars. When I saw two cars in front of me pass him by, I wanted to do the same. But the sight of that poor man remained in my mind for quite a moment. I felt as if a big hand was dragging me and forcing me not to leave. Finally I drew back and gave him a ride.
As I drove along, we had a conversation, during which he told me something about himself and his family. I learned that the man was doing everything he could to support his family using the limited salary from several part-time jobs. As you could imagine, every coin he earned was going to be used to pay for the house and food.
It was a long drive before we got to his home. All the way, I could feel his hardship and tiredness. But as we came close to the house where he was living, I saw his tired eyes grow bright and the whole body was lit up. His lovely girl was playing in the front yard.Seeing her father was out of the car, she ran to him as quickly as possible, reaching out her two small hands. He held the girl with his two strong hands, laughing and kissing her cheeks. I was lost in that happy moment. I smiled, said goodbye to them, wished them the future happiness and then drove off.
Paragraph 1:On my way home, something came into my mind.
Paragraph 2:Half an hour later, I got home.

Therefore, my good command of spoken English makes me free to communicate with foreign students in daily life. What's mo re, I used to be a volunteer who worked for an international conference. So I believe I will be a qualified volunteer. If given the chance, I will introduce our school and our city to our guests, getting the student to know more about real life and culture in China. At the same time,by communicating with them, I can learn more about what their attitudes about life and study.

On my way home, something came into my mind. I thought of my lovely daughter and my happy family.
Usually, as a manager of a small firm, I was so busy that I had broken many promises to have dinner with my family. Even I had never seen my honey girl for ten days. Because every night when I got home, she had fallen asleep and the next morning when I left, she was still in her dream. I felt quite sorry for everything I had done before.
Half an hour later; I got home. My daughter was shocked to see me go home so early. But quickly a big smile spread on her face. She put down her toy, flew to me and hugged me tightly. "Dad, am I dreaming " she asked. "Of course not. " I told her what had happened today and promised to spend more time with her and her mom as they are the most valuable treasures in the world to me.
