Dear Peter,
Knowing that you are a caring person, I am writing to invite you to participate in the voluntary work in the community.
It is scheduled to be held on June 30. On arriving, we may start with some simple things like picking up the rubbish. What’s more, we can do a clean-up for the disabled or teach the elderly how to use social media. I believe we will have a better understanding of people’s life and enhance our sense of responsibility.
If it is convenient to you, please inform me. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,

参考范文二
I told him I was calling the animal shelter, lifting the dog out of the car. We sat together waiting for shelter workers, while the dog didn’t move except to lick my face. Strangely, I was already starting to like this feeling. I petted him, comforting him that everything would be okay. When the shelter workers arrived, he rose suddenly, and then lowered his eyes disappointedly. Seeing the sweet dog loaded onto the van, patting on the window helplessly, I felt a mixture of relief and sadness. My heart spoke before I knew it, “If he isn’t claimed, I’ll adopt him.”
Ten days later, I went to the shelter to bring the dog home. At the sight of me, he circled around me, wagging his tail and licking my hands cheerfully. As I opened the door, he couldn’t wait to jump onto the seat as he did on the day we first met. On our arrival, my husband had already prepared a cozy hut for him. In the following days, he followed me everywhere, expressing his gratitude to have a home. But I felt I was the one to be grateful, for the opportunity to experience such an unexpected bond with an animal.哈尔滨市四校2022-2023学年高一下学期期末考试

Accompanied by typical Jin opera music, a red-faced performer with a long beard showed up at the hall of a high school in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province. All the students in the hall stood up and craned (伸长) their necks to get a better look. In their eyes, Jin opera was something from the past.
They are not alone. It goes without saying that kids nowadays are much more familiar with popular music than traditional opera, which is why performing artist Wu Lingyun, together with his colleagues, goes to campuses to promote the art.
Wu Lingyun is best known for his role as Guan Gong, a general during the late Han Dynasty period. Wu began playing the role in 1985, at the age of 21, and has been associated with it ever since. Wu was significantly influenced by his parents, both of whom are also famous Jin opera performers. With a natural talent for performing and great effort, Wu was soon recognized by audiences and later awarded the Chinese Drama Plum Blossom Award in 2000, the highest award for Chinese drama performing arts.
Given Wu’s considerable fame, one might think he would now prefer to enjoy a life of leisure. However, this is far from the case. Deep down, Wu has a big dream. He pictures a growing future for Jin opera. Wu expected more chances for more people to get to know about the art, hoping Jin opera could become a worldwide art.
Wu has also made some changes to the traditional art to bring it up-to-date. “Jin opera should keep pace with the times if we want to bring it back to life and get the young generation to accept it,“ he says. “An art without life can never survive.”
24.How did the students react to the performance at the hall
A.They became bored. B.They got disappointed.
C. They felt curious. D.They looked casual(漫不经心).
25.What do we know about Wu Lingyun
A.He got a top award in 2000. B.He started his performance in his teens.
C.He now enjoys a leisure life. D.He became famous because of his parents.
26.What does Wu Lingyun expect of Jin opera
A.It’ll be studied as a college major. B.It’ll be officially recognized.
C.It’ll have an easier performing form. D.It’ll be popular across the world.
27.Which of the following best describes Wu Lingyun
A.Humorous. B.Kind-minded. C.Cautious. D.Devoted.

One of the world’s most significant ecological and environmental problems is desertification. Desertification is a type of land degradation in which a relatively dry land region becomes increasingly arid (干旱的), typically losing its bodies of water as well as vegetation and wildlife. It’s happening all over the world and it’s happening very quickly.
There are several causes of desertification. The immediate cause is the removal of most vegetation. This is driven by a number of factors, such as drought, tillage (耕种) for agriculture, overgrazing (过度放牧) and deforestation for fuel or construction materials. Some farmers farm their land too much, without giving the soil a chance to recover. Others allow their animals to eat up large areas of grass far too quickly — at a rate that makes it impossible for the grass to grow back. Cutting down trees is another major cause of desertification. Trees help protect the soil. Without trees, the soil easily blows away in the wind or washes away in floods. Besides, wildlife plays an important role in the preservation of vegetation and soil. So removal of animals is also one of the main drivers of increasing desertification. Moreover, some parts of the Earth are hotter today than they used to be. This change in climate has dried out a lot of land.
The consequences of desertification can be disastrous. So we need to take steps to prevent desertification. We should pay attention to how much energy we use in our daily lives. That way, we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide released. We can walk or cycle short distances, and use less water. We can also protect our forests by reusing paper and not using disposable chopsticks. What’s more, we should try to make people around us aware of the problem and encourage them to change their daily habits in the same way. As long as we create a harmonious environment, life on this planet will live in peace and abundance, and stop the pace of desertification together.
28.What can we learn about desertification from paragraph 1
A.It is happening slowly throughout the world.
B.It is an ecological and environmental solution.
C.It is the process during which farmland turns into desert.
D.It is the process during which a relatively dry land becomes rich.
29.Why does desertification occur
A.Wildlife does harm to the vegetation and soil.
B.The change in climate contributes to dried land.
C.Animals eat the grass at a slower rate than grass grows.
D.Trees are blown away in the wind or washed away in floods.
30.What steps can we take to prevent desertification
A.Changing our good daily habits.
B.Raising people’s environmental awareness.
C.Using more paper and less disposable chopsticks.
D.Using more energy and releasing less carbon dioxide.
31.Which of the following is a suitable title for the text
A.Desertification — the major cause of climate change.
B.Desertification — everyone’s responsibility for its treatment.
C.Desertification — the disastrous consequences of deforestation.
D.Desertification — the most significant ecological and environmental problem.
D
Scientists have recently developed a method to 3D-print greener buildings using local soil that they say has the possibility to be in the lead in the construction industry.
Sarbajit Banerjee, a professor of chemistry and materials science and engineering at Texas A&M University, said 3D printing enabled them to print the entire front of a building, although getting such structures to meet existing building rules was still a significant challenge.
Concrete (混凝土) is still the important material used in many construction projects but it cannot be recycled and requires a lot of energy to mix and transport. The research team’s aim is to print structures using the type of soil that can be found in any garden.
“While concrete is widely used in housing and has enabled the growth of cities, this has come at a considerable environmental cost,” said Banerjee.
“The move to 3D-print concrete threatens to exacerbate this problem. However, we try to make a new example of construction that uses naturally sourced materials. Using such materials will further pave the way for building designs that are specifically adapted to the needs of the local climate.
What’s more, the use of local materials would reduce the need to transport concrete long distances, further reducing the environmental impact of the buildings.
The research team’s plan to replace concrete with the earth beneath our feet depends on their ability to improve the soil’s capability to stand the weight of the whole house, towards which Banerjee said they “are making excellent progress”.
Once they have a clearer idea of the limits of the technology, Banerjee and his team plan to further investigate how it might allow for building on other planets. For instance, they have worked on addressing the problem of building all-weather roads near the arctic area. They hope the technology could one day be used beyond Earth, to create settlements on the moon or even Mars.
32.What’s the latest development in construction
A.Recycling concrete. B.Reducing the construction cost.
C.3D-printing buildings from local soil. D.Changing the construction rules.
33.What does the underlined word “exacerbate” in Paragraph 5 probably mean
A.solve. B.simplify. C.relieve. D.worsen.
34.What is the condition for replacing concrete with the earth
A.The local climate. B.The soil’s weight-bearing capability.
C.The environmental footprint. D.The cost of transportation.
35.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A.The outlook for further studies. B.The explorations of the arctic area.
C.The limits of the new technology. D.The barrier to building on other planets.

The truth is that it’s extremely difficult to follow a healthy diet when you’re eating regularly at fast food restaurants. Fast food is typically loaded with calories, sodium, and unhealthy fat — often enough in one meal for an entire day. 36
That doesn’t mean you have to avoid fast food entirely. When you’re hungry and on the run, fast food can really hit the spot. 37 But while it’s okay to eat fast food every now and then, to stay healthy you can’t make it a regular habit. The key is moderation — both in how often you go to fast food chains and what you order once you’re there.
Fast food menus are tricky when you’re watching your weight or your health. Finding a healthy, well-balanced meal in most fast food restaurants is a challenge. 38 The following tips and menu recommendations can help you stay on track.
Aim to keep your entire meal to 500 calories or less. The average adult eats 836 calories per fast food meal and underestimates the amount of what they eat. So don’t guess! 39 Take advantage of this information.
Choose foods that are lower in fat and higher in protein and fiber. Look for items with more good stuff, like fiber, whole grains, and high-quality protein. Also aim for items that are relatively low in saturated fats.
40 Even when you order wisely, it can be pretty tough to get enough fiber and other important vitamins and nutrients from a fast food menu. If you plan ahead, you can bring healthy food like dried fruit, nuts and seeds, apple or pear slices, and cheese or yogurt.
A.It’s cheap, tasty, and best of all, convenient.
B.As is known to all, fast food is really popular.
C.Bring your own add-on items if you really want a healthy diet.
D.But there are always choices you can make that are healthier than others.
E.Most fast food chains post nutritional information both on websites and at the restaurants.
F.It also tends to be low in nutrients and almost totally lacking in fruit, vegetables, and fiber.
G.Making healthier fast food choices is easy if you plan ahead by checking the nutritional guides.

阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I had just changed into my running clothes and was leaving my office, off for a run even though it was well over 38℃ outside. I couldn’t explain it, but I felt the need to run despite the record heat. A quarter-mile into my jog, I was exhausted. I admitted defeat and turned around. As I approached my car, I saw a dog circling it.
When I reached for the door handle, the dog disappeared beneath the car into the shade. I grabbed my bottle and took a drink of water. I then got down on my knees to look for the dog. When I stood up, I found him sitting in the driver’s seat, panting (喘息). I reached over and started the car, turning the air conditioning on high. He turned his face toward the vents(通风孔), enjoying the cold air, his moustache blowing. I poured some water into the bottle cap and offered it to the dog. He drained it in a few desperate(渴望的)gulps (一大口). I refilled it several times before he had his fill.
He wore no collar(项圈). I walked around but there was no one in sight. I stood there, looking at the dog staring back at me through the window. He waited patiently as if he’d been in my car dozens of times before. I didn’t know what to do. Leaving him in that heat was out of the question. He would die.
I decided to drive him home. Before we were out of the parking lot, he had climbed onto my lap. He looked up at me, and then licked my sweaty face. “Ugh! No licking!”
I had never been a dog person. They smelt, they were loud, and they were messy. My newly-married husband had already resigned to the fact that we would never have a dog. And now one was in my car, on my lap! I pulled into my driveway and shrugged(耸肩) as my husband saw the dog, his eyes wide at this new development.
