Charles Ⅴ (1500-1558), Holy Roman Emperor, once said, “I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men and German to my horse.”
I first heard the Spanish language in 2017 while lining up to ride the London Eye. Two boys were murmuring (嘟囔) something in the sweetest language. I asked them what the language is, and they told me it was Spanish.
In the fall of the same year, I selected Spanish as a compulsory foreign language course throughout the next six years in my junior and senior high schools.
I had a burning desire and persistence to learn Spanish well. My interest and passion helped me succeed.
Spanish trills were quite difficult for me at the very beginning. I repeatedly tried to figure out where to place my tongue to pronounce perfect trills.
There is no easy short-term solution to master a foreign language. Spanish conjugations (动词变位) are much more complicated than English ones, so I practiced more. The cycle of learning, forgetting and memorizing continued.
Reaching milestones has always been important. I set up several goals for learning Spanish in 12 semesters. For example, I drew up a plan last winter to pass the DELE B2 test before graduating from my high school.
I usually split up my tasks into six sections — vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, writing and oral practices. I regularly read Spanish books, recited(背诵) words and phrases, and kept on doing grammar exercises. I did listening exercises every day while showering or bathing. I wrote emails or letters to my Spanish friends as practice and took all opportunities to talk with my Spanish teachers and people I met online to enhance my oral Spanish.
I believe that success only comes with practice, patience and persistence. There’s no end to learning!
24.Why did the author begin to learn Spanish

C.It was a compulsory course at his school. D.He admired Holy Roman Emperor Charles Ⅴ.
25.What was hard for him to learn at the beginning

C.The ways he practiced Spanish. D.The ways he prepared for the DELE B2 test.
27.Which of the following best describes the author
A.Creative and hardworking. B.Patient and modest.
C.Organized and determined. D.Outgoing and humorous.

“I like pigs,” Winston Churchill supposedly once said. “Dogs look up at us, cats look down on us, but pigs treat us as equals.” Whether Churchill’s contemporary George Orwell also liked pigs is less clear. But he, too, surely saw something in them that was lacking in other domestic beasts, for it was they who ended up running the show in novel Animal Farm. Pigs, then, are intelligent social creatures.
And, like all animals, they sometimes fight. A study just published in Animal Cognition by Ivan Norscia, a biological anthropologist at the University of Turin, in Italy, and his colleagues, looked at how a group of 104 domestic pigs went about resolving such incidents. In total, Dr. Norscia and his team studied the details of 216 pig conflicts over the course of six months.
Some pigs tend to be attackers; others tend to be victims. Who is what depends largely on weight, for, among pigs pounds mean power. The attacker might bite, kick, bump or lift the victim (or string together a sequence of those actions). Most conflicts ended in seconds, but some lasted a minute or two.
In most animal species that would be that. However, many of the pig conflicts Dr. Norscia observed had interested parties beyond the protagonists (主角). He therefore wanted to understand the role of these bystanders in resolving fights —and what this says about pigs’ cognitive (认知) abilities.
Since there was usually not enough time for a bystander pig to intervene during the heat of a conflict (though this did occur), he and his colleagues looked at what happened in the three minutes directly following an aggressive interaction. Sometimes, they found, the protagonists made up on their own —for instance, by touching noses.
On other occasions, though, a third pig stepped in. Sometimes this bystander acted as a peacemaker, engaging with the attacker and reducing the number of subsequent attacks compared with what might otherwise have been expected. Sometimes, by contrast, the bystander engaged with the victim. This appeared to calm the victim down, for it reduced anxiety-related behavior such as shaking and scratching.
28.Why does the author mention Winston Churchill in the first paragraph
A.To prove pigs are clever. B.To show pigs are inspirational.
C.To state Churchill loves pigs. D.To introduce the topic of the text.
29.What probably decides on the pigs’ roles in pig conflict
A.Their ages. B.Their weight.

30.Why did Ivan Norscia and his colleagues conduct the study
A.To comprehend the role of bystanders in conflict resolution.
B.To figure out the relationship between pigs.
C.To record the details of 216 pig conflicts.
D.To find out the reason for pigs’ conflicts.
31.How will the bystander interact with the victim after a fight
A.By shaking it. B.By touching its nose.
C.By scratching its back. D.By offering comfort to it.

It is widely acknowledge that cities with some kind of functioning ecosystems make for better place for humans to live. More plants and animals in cities make for happier, healthier people.
A study conducted on green spaces in Sheffield, England, for instance, revealed that the greater the biodiversity(生物多样性), the greater the psychological well-being(健康)of the city’s citizens. In Paris, researchers found that getting citizens to take part in day-long activities involving urban wildlife opened their eyes to the natural world for a time, at least.
Few cities have been associated with urban ecology for as Berlin. “Slow economic recovery after the Second World War meant that reconstruction would take a long time. This provide local ecologist with the ideal conditions to develop an ambitious ecological research program in the bombed-out wastelands of West Berlin,” said Jens Lachmund, a sociologist at the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands.
The pioneering work in Berlin had several consequences, especially the formation of significant natural spaces within the city, such as the Sudgelande Nature. “Berlin has indeed benefited a lot from being a case study in urban ecology,” said Lachmund.
The recent research conducted by Mark Goddard, a biologist at the University of Leeds, and his colleagues confirmed the important of natural space within an urban setting. Goddard and his team conducted a striking global analysis of bird and plant diversity, quantifying the influence of urbanization on levels of biodiversity around the world. “Functioning urban ecosystems will be extremely important to human health and well-being,” said Goddard.
Cities take up just 3% of the land surface area, yet according to the most recent figure from the United Nations, some 3.6 billion people (just over 50% of the global population) now live in urban areas. By 2050, this figure is expected it rise to 6.3 billion. Without animals and plants to keep us company, it is a dark future.
32.The findings in Paragraph 2 are mentioned to explain the between_____.
A.citizens and their well-being
B.green spaces and urban wildlife
C.Urban ecology and citizens’ well-being
D.Functioning ecosystems and the natural world
33.What would be Goddard’s attitude towards Berlin’s work
A.Cautious. B.Negative.
C.Uncaring. D.Admiring.
34.The author uses figures in the last paragraph to show______.
A.The negative effect of over population.
B.The important of urban ecosystems.
C.The serious problems of city life.
D.The rapid growth of urban areas.
35.Which of the following can be the best text
A.Should more people live in urban areas

D.Should the global population be controlled now

John’s uncle Tom and his wife had a dog called Oliver with a white spot on his neck. When John stayed with them, he realized that Oliver was unhappy. He was not given his meals on time, nor was he taken for a walk. Oliver was shouted and abused all day.
“Your uncle bought Oliver so that the dog could protect his house from thieves, but actually neither he nor his wife loves him,” the gardener told John one day. John felt sad. At night, he could hear Oliver sobbing in the cold.“ Why don’t you make a coat for Oliver ” John paused and said,“ He feels cold.” His aunt snorted, “I have much better things to do.”
One day, John went out for a walk with Oliver, when the sky was suddenly covered with dark clouds and a fierce storm started raging. People ran here and there for protection, as the rain started falling. John ran to take shelter in a candy shop. It was only after a few minutes that he realized that Oliver was not with him. John searched the entire place after the storm but he couldn’t find him. John’s uncle put an advertisement in the paper. After all, he had spent lots of money buying Oliver and did not want to lose him.
It was a half-hour ride by bus. The house was a beautiful brick-colored structure. The middle-aged lady who greeted Oliver was a kind woman; She and her husband had answered John’s uncle’s advertisement in the paper. Since John’s uncle was out on an official tour, John had been sent to check on the dog
“He is asleep,” the lady said. “Come and have a look.” The small bed on which Oliver slept was covered with a warm quilt. A pot of milk stood in a corner of the room possibly for Oliver’s next feed. “I found him on the back seat of the car. He must have crept in during the storm. The poor dear was shaking with cold when I first noticed him,” the lady said.

Good morning, everyone, this is John Simon from the daily radio show Weather of the Week. The heat wave that arrived last weekend is showing no sign of going away this week. According to the forecast, the weather this week will be as hot as it was over the weekend. Today’s weather forecast suggests that the temperature could climb to as high as 36 degrees by the early afternoon. And right now, at only 8:00 in the morning, the temperature here at the city center is already 27 degrees, and there’s no doubt that it will reach 30 degrees around lunch time. But don’t worry too much because there is also good news. There will be some wind coming our way later around 4:00 in the afternoon. Therefore, it should be quite comfortable in the evening today. Unfortunately, there is still no rain in the forecast for the next five days. This can be bad news for those who live in the forest area outside the city, where forest fires are very likely to happen at this time of the year, especially when the weather is dry like this. Taking a relieved breath, John was about to claim Oliver when he recalled the miserable scenes. John began to wonder if he should tell the truth. It was at this moment that the lady said, “Upon seeing the advertisement, we were reluctant to contact your uncle because we were attached to the dog. Is this your dog ” Hearing her words, he ultimately made up his mind to tell a lie.
John smiled and said, ”I am sorry to have bothered you, but this is not our Oliver." Hardly had the lady heard the answer when she let out a sigh of relief. It was apparent that she loved the dog very much. Waving goodbye to the lady, John knew he would have to let his uncle down. But from the bottom of his heart, he was convinced that he made a right decision, which could save Oliver from an otherwise life of misery in his uncle’s house. It turned out that sometimes a white lie could have a big impact on other’s life.
