The Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival, has a history of more than 2,000 years. It is said that it is related to Qu Yuan.
Qu Yuan was a minister of the State of Chu during the Warring States Period. He is also known as the father of Chinese poetry. After he had lost hope in his country’s future, he jumped into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. The modem Dragon Boat Festival that is also called the Duanwu Festival started from that time. People have commemorated (纪念) Qu Yuan on that day by posting poems on the door, eating wearing incense (香) bags and doing several other activities. The most important part of the tradition, however, is the dragon boat races.
Nowadays, in Japan and Vietnam, as well as South Korea, the festival has mixed with and become part of the local culture. No one can deny that it came from China. We should know the Dragon Boat Festival is regarded as one of the traditional festivals throughout China forever.

My daughter used a new app to clear up and improve some of my old photos. There were pictures of Mom, Dad, Nana, my brothers, me and my first dog Duke. Looking at them brought back so many loving, happy memories. I even used one as my computer screen saver (屏保).
It is a picture of me sitting in my favorite chair, across from the wood stove (炉子), next to a bookcase full of old books. I am wearing my special Snoopy sweatshirt and hugging Duke. There is a big smile on my face and a joyful twinkle (闪烁) in my eyes. It was how I spent a lot of my winter afternoons as a boy, hugging Duke and reading an old book.
It is strange too how 50 years later that boy still lives inside of me. I still love comfortable chairs, warm stoves, Snoopy clothes, hugging dogs and reading books on cold winter days. Once there was a teenage boy who was known as a fast runner in his village. He only cared about winning every race and becoming more successful.
One day, the boy took part in a running race in his village. He won the 200, 100 and 50-meter races without any problem. He was proud of himself and received great applause(掌声).
But his grandfather stepped in and challenged him to a race with two unexpected competitors, an old man and a blind girl. The boy thought it was unbelievable but accepted.
