For Wei Fen, listening to something interesting is the secret to language learning.
How I Learned to Learn English
Last year, I did not like my English class. Every class was like a bad dream. The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand her most of the time. I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation. I just hid behind my textbook and never said anything.
Then one day I watched an English movie called Toy Story. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie! So I began to watch other English movies, too. Although I could not understand everything the characters said, their body language and the expressions on their faces helped me to get the meaning.
1.The teacher spoke so quickly that I did not understand most of the time.
老师说得太快了,以至于很多时间我都听不懂。
so that;so...that;such that易混淆知识点总结：
①so that:意思是“为了,以便”，引导目的状语从句时,相当于in order to, 通常主句在前从句在后,主句和从句之间没有逗号隔开;在从句中往往有can, could, may, might等情态动词。
My father bought me a bicycle so that I can get to school quickly.
e.g:我爸爸给我买了一辆自行车以便我能够快一点到学校。(目的状语从句)
②so...that...引导结果状语从句，翻译成“如此...以至于”，so是副词，用来修饰形容词或者副词，that后面是结果状语从句。
e.g:I feel so happy that I can't say a word.
我如此高兴以致于我不能说出一句话。
③such…that… “如此...以至于”。such后面接名词，名词前加a/an或者是形容词。
e.g: He is such a clever boy that everybody likes him.
他非常聪明，大家都非常喜欢他。
2.I was afraid to ask questions because of my poor pronunciation.
由于我糟糕的发音，我不敢问问题。
be afraid to do sth. 意为“不敢做某事 ”。
I'm afraid to stay at home alone.我不敢一个人待在家里。
3. because of : 意为“因为，由于”，后面跟名词∕代词∕V-ing
because “因为”，后面接原因状语从句。
Jim didn't go to the park because of the rain.
= Jim didn't go to the park because it rained.
4. I fell in love with this exciting and funny movie!
fall in love with 爱上了...,喜欢上...
e.g:He fell in love with her at their first meeting.他对她一见钟情。
When I saw this beautiful city, I fell in love with it at once.
当我看到这座美丽的城市时，我立刻喜欢上了它。
fall in love with后可接sb.或sth.，表示动作，不可与时间段连用。
be in love with表示“与......相爱”，强调状态，可与表示一段时间的状语连用。
5. Although I could not understand everything the characters said.
Although：“尽管，即使” ，引导的是让步状语从句。
①作为连词although 和 though 同义相当于even if/even though。通常可以互换使用,Although常放在从句的开头,用于正式场合，although 只用作连词。Although语气比though强，强调让步概念。 although, though 不能与but 同用在一个句子中
e.g:Although not ideal, this attitude is not entirely destructive.
这种态度虽然不够理想，但还不至于消极透顶。
②though:“尽管;即使” 比较常见，常用于非正式或书面用语。though 除作连词外，还可用作副词，可放在句末,句子较长时，也置于句中。
e.g:Though they all live nearby, I lost contact with them really quickly.
虽然他们都住在附近，但我很快与他们失去了联系。
e.g:His achievements,though hardly exciting,were widely admired.
尽管他的成就不怎么激动人心，可依然备受赞赏。
How I Learned to Learn English
I also realized I could get the meaning by listening for just the key words. My pronunciation improved as well by listening to the conversations in English movies. I discovered that listening to something interesting is the secret to language learning. I also learned useful sentences like “It’s a piece of cake” or “It serves you right.” I did not understand these sentences at first. But because I wanted to understand the story, I looked them up in a dictionary.
Now I really enjoy my English class. I want to learn new words and more grammar so that I can have a better understanding of English movies.
6. My pronunciation improved as well by listening to
the conversations in English movies.
通过听英文电影里的对话我的发音有了改善。
as well:“也;还”,经常用于句末，多用在口语里面。
e.g:He can play tennis as well as basketball.
他也会打篮球，也会打网球。
e.g:Except Chinese, I study English and French as well.
除了语文，我还学习英语和法语。还有这个。
通常用于肯定句
She can sing, and she can dance as well. =She can sing and she can dance, too. = She can sing, and she can also dance.
He didn’t know the answer. I didn’t know, either.

7. I discovered that listening to something interesting is the secret to language learning.
我发现听一些有趣的东西是学习语言的秘诀。
①discovered:“发现;发觉”，与find区别在于discover指的是本来已经存在的，未知的事物被发现/觉。
e.g:In the 19th century, gold was discovered in California
19世纪时，在加利福尼亚发现了金子。
secret n. 秘密；秘诀 adj. 秘密的；保密的
常用结构：
(1) the secret to/ of……的秘诀
e.g. The secret to success is hard work. 成功的秘诀是艰苦工作。
(2) keep the secret =keep sth. to oneself 保守秘密
e.g. You must keep it to yourself. 你必须保守秘密。
(3) keep sth. secret 对某事保密(其中 secret 是形容词作宾语补足语)
e.g. Please keep his illness secret as far as possible.
请尽可能地对他的病情保密。
8. I also learned useful sentences like“It's a piece of cake”or “It serves you right”.
我还学会了像“这简直是小菜碟"和“你活该"这样的有用的句子。
“a piece of cake”相当于汉语的“小菜一碟; 小事一桩”;
“serve somebody right”相当于汉语说某个人“活该”。
是英语中两个习惯用语。是人们长期的语言运用确定或形成的一种固定表达方式。

我想这对你来说也只不过是小菜一碟。

②It serves you right:你活该。
e.g: I once told you to work hard, but you always turned a deaf ears to me. It serves you right.

e.g:It serves you right. As a man sows, so does he reap.
你是罪有应得，种瓜得瓜，种豆得豆嘛！
9. I looked them up in a dictionary.我就在词典中查阅他们。
look up:意为“(在词典或参考书)查找;查阅”。
（1）look up在此处意为“查阅”，可接名词或代词作宾语。宾语如果为代词要放在look和up之间；如果是名词，放在look和up之间或up之后均可。
