U1 I’ve also entered lots of speaking competitions
Teaching aims:
1. After this lesson, Ss can understand the conversation about competition and identify specific information.
2. After this class, Ss can ask and answer questions about personal experiences.
3. After this lesson, Ss can have a basic knowledge of the present perfect and use it to make sentences.
key point: Ss can know and write the following words: ever, enter, competition, prize, first prize, dream, afford, invite.
Difficult point: Ss can make sentences with the present perfect.
Teaching process
Step one lead in
T shows a video cut of an English competition “The Power of Ideal” by Yang Yukun (2:46), and asks the following questions:
What is he doing ( He is giving a speech.)
Have you ever entered a speaking competition
Step two warning up
T shows the new words and phrases on the PPT and asks Ss to read.
Step three pre-listening
T shows a radio, Ss listen and number the words as they hear them. (activity1)
Ss listen the radio one more time and choose the right answer. (activity2)
Step four while-listening
Ss listen to the passage in Activity3 and check what Lingling and Tony have or have not done. T checks the answer.
Step five while-listening
Ss listen to the passage one more time. T shows the language points on the PPT.

Ss complete the sentences with the correct form of the words in the box; Ss read aloud the following expressions and try to remember them.
Homework
Copy the words and expressions on page112, from ever to invite, three times in English while once in Chinese.
Teaching reflection
Teachers should pay more attention to helping students distinguish between the past simple tense and the present perfect tense in the form of giving examples. After students have answered the questions correctly, teachers should guide them to tell the basis of the answers, which will develop students' ability to find the key sentences in reading comprehension.
