一、结果状语从句
表示主句的动作所引起的结果,可以用 so... that…, such... that... 等引导。但是 so...
that... 和 such… that... 引导结果状语从句时,在结构上有区别:
Grammar
1.在 so... that… 结构中,so 是副词,与形容词或
副词连用,其结构是 so+adj.(adv.)+ that十从句。
他跑得那么快,我赶不上他。
He ran so fast that I couldn’t catch up with
him. (fast adv.)
我太困了,眼睛几乎睁不开了。
I am so sleepy that I can hardly keep my
eyes open. (sleepy adj.)
2. 在 such... that... 结构中,such 是形容词,后跟可数名词或不可数名词;名词前可以带形容词,也可以不带。如果其后是单数可数名词,前面需加不定冠词 a 或 an。
他是一个诚实的孩子,大家都很喜欢他。
He is such an honest boy that everybody
likes him.
他的胳膊很长,以至于他几乎能碰到天花板了。
He had such long arms that he could almost
touch the ceiling.
3.当单数名词前有形容词时,既可以用 so,也可
以用 such,但不定冠词的位置却有所不同。
这是一次很重要的会议,你一定要参加。
This is such an important meeting that you
should attend. = This is so important a
meeting that you should attend.
二、让步状语从句
1. although 常用于句首,较正式。它引导的让
步状语从句用正常语序,不可倒装。
2. though 位置灵活,可放在句首、句中或句末,
较口语化。它引导的让步状语从句可用部分倒装。
虽然下着雨,但我们还是去了那儿。
Though/Although it was raining, we went there.
这份工作很辛苦,但是我喜欢。
It’s hard work. I enjoy it, though.
虽然他们打得很勇敢,但还是没有机会获胜。
Bravely though they fought, they had no
chance of winning.
[注意] although/though 不能与 but 同时出现在一个句子中,但可与 yet/still 搭配使用。
虽然他有很多钱,但并不幸福。
Although/Though he has a lot of money,
yet/still he is unhappy.

Home Alone is a very funny 1990 American film. It tells a story about a boy who is accidentally left alone at home.

One night before Christmas, the McAlister family meet at their home. They are planning to fly to Paris for the holiday and are busy getting ready. Eight-year-old Kevin is the youngest child and is fighting with his brothers and sisters and his cousins.
When he goes to bed, he is so angry that he wishes all his family would go away. In the morning, everyone wakes up very late. They are all in a hurry to get to the airport, so they forget Kevin and he is left alone at home by accident.

Home alone rules
In the UK, there are no laws about when it is safe to leave a child alone, although parents must not put a child in danger. They should remember some basic rules:
Leave a contact telephone number.
Talk to the child about keeping safe at home and
point out possible dangers.
Tell the child not to answer the door to strangers.
Give clear instructions about how to call the police, fire service or hospital.
Put obvious dangers out of reach of the child, for example, medicines and matches.
Tell the child when they will come back and make sure they are back on time.
