根据Teotihuacán部分中“Much of the city’s history is still a mystery, but some believe that its decline came from changing climate conditions like long-term droughts.(这座城市的大部分历史仍然是一个谜,但一些人认为,它的衰落是由于长期干旱等气候条件的变化)”可知,Teotihuacán的大部分历史仍然是一个谜,需要进一步探索。故选A项。
根据Pompeii部分中“The site was unearthed in the 18th century, and the evidence found provided a great detail of insight into daily living in this ancient Italian city.(该遗址于18世纪出土,所发现的证据为了解这座意大利古城的日常生活提供了很多细节)”可知,在Pompeii古城可以了解古代意大利人的日常生活。
根据Petra部分中“Petra was occupied by Rome in 106 AD(公元106年,Petra被罗马占领)”及Ctesiphon部分中“It was conquered (征服) by Rome, and then by the Byzantine Empire.(它先是被罗马征服,然后又被拜占庭帝国征服)”可知,Petra和Ctesiphon的共同点是都曾被罗马打败。
根据文章第一段的内容“A 99-year-old Australian swimmer appears to have broken a world record for his age group in the 50 m freestyle. The likely new world record holder, George Corones, clocked 56.12 seconds at an official event in Queensland— a new benchmark for the 100-104 age category. He faded the previous record of 1:31. 19, which was set by British swimmer John Harrison in 2014, by 35 seconds. It will now be affirmed by the sports governing body.(在50米自由泳比赛中,一名99岁的澳大利亚游泳运动员似乎打破了他所在年龄组的世界纪录。
根据文章第四段“At this age it takes a while to get going... you get exhausted much more easily, but if you do it properly, the rewards are astronomical.(到了这个年纪,你需要花点时间才能开始,你很容易就会筋疲力尽,但如果训练得当,那么你获得的回报是astronomical)”可知,转折连词but后面所表达的内容与前面应是相反相对的,前面说年龄大了,更容易筋疲力尽,但是如果训练得当,那么对应的收获也会很大,故astronomical应与“收获巨大”的含义对应。 选A项。
根据文章第五段“Corones will challenge the 100 m freestyle record on Saturday night, believing he can beat the current mark of 03:23. 10, which was also set by Harrison.(科罗恩斯将于周六晚挑战100米自由泳纪录,他相信自己可以打破目前3分23秒10的记录,这也是由哈里森创的。)”
根据文章最后一段““I’m not a young man by any means, but I am really looking forward to it and confident I can do it very well,” he said.(他说:“无论如何,我已经不年轻了,但我真的很期待,我有信心能做得很好。”)” It’s never too late to learn.(学习永远不嫌晚。) 故选A项。
根据文章第一段“ It doesn’t need one because Margot simply doesn’t cause anything to get thrown away. The restaurant doesn’t allow any type of single use plastic. Margot, which opened last year, is one of the small but growing restaurants around the world aiming to avoid not only food leftovers, but also any garbage.(它不需要垃圾桶,因为Margot根本不会导致任何东西被扔掉。这家餐厅不允许使用任何类型的一次性塑料。去年开业的Margot是世界上小型但不断增长的餐厅之一,不仅旨在避免剩菜,也旨在避免任何垃圾。)可知Margot的特点是它的零浪费的目标。故选C项。
【29题】段落主旨大意题。根据文章第三段“Restaurants from McDonald’s to Starbucks are addressing this issue with “no straw Mondays” and limits on single-serving plastic, but a handful of restaurateurs are trying to get rid of rubbish entirely. There’s also economic case to be made for waste reduction. One study shows that restaurants save seven dollars for every dollar invested in anti- waste methods.(从麦当劳到星巴克,许多餐馆都在用“星期一没有吸管”和对一次性塑料的限制来解决这个问题,而一些餐馆老板正试图完全清除垃圾。减少浪费也有经济理由。一项研究表明,餐馆在反浪费方法上每投资1美元,就能节省7美元。)”可知文章第三段主要讲的是一些餐馆在减少垃圾方面所做出的努力。故选D项。
【30题】细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Compost (堆肥) is a necessity as well. Nolla (meaning “zero” in Finnish) in Helsinki, Finland is giving compost to its suppliers as well as its diners. Nolla also has food- tracking software more commonly used among corporate food service companies to keep track of what sells and what rots.(堆肥也是一种必需。芬兰赫尔辛基的Nolla(芬兰的意思是“零”)正在为其供应商和食客提供堆肥。)”
根据文章第二段“He says that food waste contributes to releasing the greenhouse gas, so there is strong motivation to reduce waste and help the environment.(他说,食物浪费导致释放温室气体,所以我们有强烈的动力来减少浪费和帮助环境。)”以及最后一段“Calvin offers some pointers on what to look for to make sure a restaurant is truly committed to sustainability.(Calvin就如何确保一家餐厅真正致力于可持续发展提供了一些建议。)可知Calvin认为餐厅应该对食品工业的可持续发展作出贡献。故选D项。
D篇【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文。短文介绍了尽管全球出现了长期变暖的趋势, 但海水温度反而降低。这表明, 全球变暖的趋势有时会有所缓解。
32. 【解析】选C。词义指代题。第一段“Despite the long-term . . . a break. ”可知, 科学家们说, 尽管全球出现了长期变暖的趋势, 但在过去三年里, 海洋温度已经冷却了。表明, 全球变暖的趋势有时会有所缓解。所以根据上下文的语境, 判断出这里的It指代的是“the cooling of the oceans”。
由第四段“The rising of sea level occurs due to . . . glaciers”可知, 海平面上升是由于海洋因热量增加而膨胀, 以及冰盖和冰川融化导致的径流而造成的。所以根据文章可知, 导致海平面上升的原因有两个。
34.【解析】选B。细节理解题。第六段“Researchers have not. . . in the last three years. . . ”知, 研究人员还不知道过去三年海洋温度下降的原因。B选项“海洋温度下降的原因尚不清楚”符合文意。
35. 【解析】选D。标题归纳题。通读全文尤其是第一段“Despite the long-term warming . . . a break. ”可知, 科学家们说, 尽管全球出现了长期变暖的趋势, 但在过去三年里, 海洋温度已经下降。这表明, 全球变暖的趋势有时会有所缓解。以及下文解释了其他因素而不是全球变暖造成的地球温度上升和海平面上升, 这些都在说明全球变暖的趋势有所缓解。故D选项“全球变暖的趋势有所缓解”为短文最佳标题。
七选五【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一些居家锻炼的方法。
【36题】根据上文“Although a gym membership can be nice, you don't have to have one to get into great shape! All you need is a little bit of time and space at home for yourself. (虽然健身房的会员资格很好,但你并不一定要拥有它才能保持好身材!你所需要的只是在家里给自己一点时间和空间)”可知,上文提到在家也可以保持好身材,结合下文介绍居家锻炼计划的一些具体方面,故G选项“但在这之前,你需要建立一个在家健身的习惯”符合语境,故选G。
【37题】根据上文“Spend 5 to 10 minutes warming up before every workout. (每次锻炼前花5到10分钟热身)”以及后文“Try jumping jacks, leg or arm circles, or even dancing. Just get your blood pumping. Do a progressive aerobic activity that uses the same muscles you want to work out. For instance, slowly jog if you are going for a longer run. (试着做开合跳,绕腿或手臂,甚至跳舞。让你的血液循环起来。做一个渐进的有氧运动,使用你想锻炼的肌肉。例如,如果你要跑更长的距离,可以慢跑)”可知,本段介绍锻炼前的热身。答题空后介绍了三种热身方式,回答了A项的问题。故A选项“不知道该做什么?”符合语境,故选A。
【38题】根据后文“Strength training, also called resistance training, makes you stronger and builds endurance. Try to do exercises that work a lot of muscles and add weight to increase your resistance. This helps you do a harder workout every time you exercise. (力量训练,也叫阻力训练,能让你更强壮,建立耐力。试着做一些锻炼肌肉和增加体重的运动来增加你的抵抗力。这可以帮助你在每次锻炼的时候做更艰苦的锻炼)”可知,本段主要介绍了力量训练的作用和训练方法,故C选项“每周做两次力量训练来锻炼肌肉”符合语境,故选C。
【39题】根据后文“You might be eager to just stop your workout when you've finished your last set of activity, but take a few minutes to do low-intensity exercises that lower your heart rate. You might drop your run into a walk or slow down your cycling, for instance. (当你完成最后一组运动时,你可能渴望停止锻炼,但花几分钟做一些低强度的运动,降低你的心率。例如,你可以把跑步改为散步或放慢骑车的速度)”知,本段介绍了训练结束时,不要突然结束,要有强度上的过渡,E项概括了本段主要内容。故E选项“每次锻炼后花5到10分钟时间放松”符合语境,故选E。
【40题】根据上文“Set achievable goals that you can break into smaller tasks. It's one thing to say you want to get fit, but that means something different for everyone. (设定一个可以实现的目标,你可以把它分解成一个个小任务。说你想健身是一回事,但对每个人来说意味着不同的东西)”以及后文“It should be specific, realistic, and meaningful. Then, break down each goal into small, actionable steps so it feels like you're making progress regularly.(它应该是具体的、现实的和有意义的。然后,把每个目标分解成小的、可操作的步骤,这样你就会有定期进步的感觉)”可知,本段主要介绍了设定具体可行的目标,F项提出应该设定目标,后文介绍应该设定什么样的目标。故F选项“找出你想要达到的目标,并以此为目标”符合语境,故选F。

【答案】Para. 1: But the homeless man said, “No, please don’t give it to me; share it with me please.” The nice suit man was touched by these sincere words from the homeless man in front of him and he felt the homeless man was rich for his spiritual world. That might be the reason why the homeless man was always having a smile on his face, not a fake smile but a genuine one from the bottom of his heart. The nice suit man said, “Sir, I hope you will be here tomorrow at this time. I am going home now because I have to finish the rest of the work.”
Para. 2: The next day, the nice suit man was on his way to visit the homeless man. “He is supposed to be in the restaurant,” the nice suit man thought. There was no doubt that the homeless man was in that restaurant again. When they saw each other they were smiling at the same time and the nice suit man said, “Today, I am going to share the food with you.” At this both of them smiled again, and then they talked like old friends, sharing interesting stuff they experienced or heard. At the end of that day’s “sharing”, the nice suit man gave a hug to the homeless man and then he realized what kindness and sharing meant in life.

Text 10
W: Good evening, everyone. I recently learnt Arabic in Cairo as part of my degree. My interest in the language was due to the passion of our Arabic lecturer and as the course progressed, my interest in the culture also grew with it. I considered studying in the Middle East, but ultimately decided on Cairo due to its energetic cultural scene.
However, in the city, we faced some challenges, including difficulties finding a hotel and accommodation as we were a group of unmarried individuals. Once settled, the culture shock was intense for some of us. One member of our group returned home within the first week. Luckily I became accustomed to the life in Cairo gradually.
The biggest challenge of learning Arabic is the disconnection between the written and the spoken forms. Despite these challenges, learning Arabic has been a rewarding experience, including absorbing myself in the culture and getting to know the locals and even negotiating at a local market. Highlights were being invited to a traditional Arabic meal at one of the locals’ home and being able to confidently communicate.
Overall, this experience was outside of my comfort zone and allowed me to learn and grow in interesting ways. I encourage others to consider involving themselves in new cultures and languages. Thanks for listening.

A
Throughout history, great cities have risen and fallen. Some of them are seemingly lost in time — until artifacts (古物) are discovered that bring them back to life.
Teotihuacán
Located outside of Mexico City, Teotihuacán is thought to have been settled around 400 BC. By 400 AD, it was the most influential, powerful city in its region. Teotihuacán’s real treasure is its massive step pyramids. Much of the city’s history is still a mystery, but some believe that its decline came from changing climate conditions like long-term droughts.
Petra
This ancient city in southern Jordan flourished from the 4th century BC to 106 AD. It was an important place for spice and silk trade routes. It also had a complicatedly-designed water management system. Petra was occupied by Rome in 106 AD, and the trade routes soon shifted. Hundreds of years later, earthquakes damaged the water system and Petra was abandoned.
Pompeii
Endless tales have been told about the tragedy of Pompeii, which occurred on August 24, in the year 79 AD, when the volcano Vesuvius erupted. The entire town was swiftly covered in ash and soil. Everything was frozen in time. The site was unearthed in the 18th century, and the evidence found provided a great detail of insight into daily living in this ancient Italian city.
Ctesiphon
Located about 20 miles outside of Baghdad, Ctesiphon was one of the greatest cities in Western Asia in the 6th century. It was conquered (征服) by Rome, and then by the Byzantine Empire. In 637 AD, it was captured by the Muslims. Many believe that the ancient city was the inspiration for the city of Isbanir mentioned in the Thousand and One Nights folk tales.
21. What do we know about Teotihuacán
A. Its history needs further exploration. B. It was the most powerful city of its time.
C. It took about 400 years to reach its peak. D. Its pyramids were ruined by climate change.
22. In which city can we learn about ancient Italian daily life
A. Teotihuacán. B. Petra. C. Pompeii. D. Ctesiphon.
23. What do Petra and Ctesiphon have in common
A. They were sources for folk tales. B. They declined due to natural disasters.
C. They were once defeated by Rome. D. They were towns on the ancient silk road.
B
A 99-year-old Australian swimmer appears to have broken a world record for his age group in the 50m freestyle. The likely new world record holder, George Corones, clocked 56.12 seconds at an official event in Queensland— a new benchmark for the 100-104 age category. He faded the previous record of 1:31. 19, which was set by British swimmer John Harrison in 2014, by 35 seconds. It will now be affirmed by the sports governing body.
Corones, who is qualified for the record because he turns 100 in April, said he was “quite delighted” and “over the world” by the result. He said he had been overwhelmed by the “roaring” crowd on the Gold Coast on Wednesday. The event, in which he was the only entrant (新成员), had been specifically staged for him to challenge the record.
Corones was a keen swimmer in his youth but only began to learn swimming again at the age of 80. He gave it up at the beginning of the World War II, and he didn’t think he would have a swim of any description until he retired. Then he started swimming again for exercise.
Racing undeniably (不可否认的) challenged him physically, but it was manageable with preparation. On average he swims three times a week, and also fits in gym sessions. “At this age it takes a while to get going... you get exhausted much more easily, but if you do it properly, the rewards are astronomical,” he said.
Corones will challenge the 100m freestyle record on Saturday night, believing he can beat the current mark of 03:23. 10, which was also set by Harrison.
“I’m not a young man by any means, but I am really looking forward to it and confident I can do it very well,” he said.
24. What is the author’s purpose of writing paragraph 1
A. To show who John Harrison is. B. To introduce the topic of the text.
C. To emphasize the importance of age. D. To explain the reason for writing the text.
25. What does the underlined word “astronomical” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Enormous. B. Original. C. Brief. D. Precise.
26. What does Corones plan to do next
A. Prepare for his 100th birthday party. B. Challenge Harrison again.
C. Celebrate his success. D. Challenge the 100 m backstroke.
27. What does the author tell us by telling Corones’s story
A. It’s never too late to learn. B. He who laughs last laughs best.
C. One good turn deserves another. D. Laziness in youth spells regret in old age.
C
Margot doesn’t have a garbage can. It doesn’t need one because Margot simply doesn’t cause anything to get thrown away. The restaurant doesn’t allow any type of single use plastic. Margot, which opened last year, is one of the small but growing restaurants around the world aiming to avoid not only food leftovers, but also any garbage.
“Food waste has been increasing as an issue for restaurants over the last 10 years,” says Calvin Brown. He runs the Sustainable Restaurant Association. Based in the United Kingdom, the organization helps food business become more environmentally responsible. He says that food waste contributes to releasing the greenhouse gas, so there is strong motivation to reduce waste and help the environment.
In the USA, food waste and packing account for nearly half of the material sent to landfills. Restaurants from McDonald’s to Starbucks are addressing this issue with “no straw Mondays” and limits on single-serving plastic, but a handful of restaurateurs are trying to get rid of rubbish entirely. There’s also economic case to be made for waste reduction. One study shows that restaurants save seven dollars for every dollar invested in anti- waste methods.
Avoiding food waste is the first and perhaps most obvious challenge for sustainable restaurants. Doug McMaster, chef at Silo in London, only serves a set menu. This removes the worry that one particular item won’t sell well, and will spoil in the post (堆肥) is a necessity as well. Nolla (meaning “zero” in Finnish) in Helsinki, Finland is giving compost to its suppliers as well as its diners. Nolla also has food- tracking software more commonly used among corporate food service companies to keep track of what sells and what rots.
Sometimes restaurants call themselves environmentally friendly, but they might just be using the label. Calvin offers some pointers on what to look for to make sure a restaurant is truly committed to sustainability.
28. What does Margot feature
A. Its large size. B. Its opening hours.
C. Its zero-waste goal. D. Its plastic garbage cans.
29. What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. Ways of packaging food. B. The issue of investing in services.
C. The importance of environmental protection. D. Efforts of some restaurants to reduce rubbish,
30. Which of the following does Nolla try to do
A. Only serve a set menu. B. Hardly use refrigerators.
C. Supply compost to its customers. D. Keep track of diners’ preferences.
31. What does Calvin think restaurants should do
A. Expand food business.
B. Use eco-friendly labels.
C. Save money on dealing with kitchen garbage.
D. Contribute to sustainable development of the food industry.
D
Despite the long-term warming trend seen around the globe, the oceans have cooled in the last three years, scientists said. It suggests that global warming trends can sometimes take a break.
In the last century, Earth’s temperature has risen about 1 degree Fahrenheit. Most scientists agree that much of the warming in the past 50 years has been caused by the burning of fossil fuels and other human activities, and most scientists expect the oceans will finally continue to warm in response to climate change humans have caused.
This research suggests that global warming isn’t always steady. The oceans today are still warmer than they were during the 1980s.
Regardless of the cooling trend observed since 2003, average sea level has continued to rise. The rising of sea level occurs due to the thermal (热的) expansion of the oceans from the heating and run-off from melting ice sheets and glaciers.
The recent cooling trend suggests sea level should have actually decreased in the past two years. Despite this, sea level has continued to rise. This may mean that the sea level rise has recently changed from being mostly caused by warming to being controlled by melting.
In a study before, researchers reported that in parts of the Antarctic, 84 percent of glaciers have drawn back over the past 50 years in response to a warmer climate. But the melting glaciers are not the reason for the cooling. The amount of ice and water from the melting glaciers is very small compared to the overall temperature of the oceans. Researchers have not yet known the cause of ocean cooling in the last three years but hope that further studies will make this unusual thing understood.
32. The underlined word “It” in the first paragraph refers to .
A. the long-term warming trend B. Earth’s temperature
C. the cooling of the oceans D. climate change
33. According to the passage, how many causes are there leading to the sea level rise
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
34. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A. Global warming will be worse and worse. B. The cause of ocean cooling isn’t clear.
C. Sea level has stopped rising for the past two years. D. The rising of sea level will cause many deaths.
35. What would be the best title for the passage
A. The Rising of Sea Level B. The Warming Earth
C. The Oceans on Earth D. Global Warming Takes a Break

One day, a man in a nice suit who seemed to have a respectable job went into a restaurant after the busy work in the evening, with a little tiredness on his face. “What a busy day!” he said to himself in a low voice. He sat down at a table and ordered a big pizza at once in order to eat some food quickly and then go home.
After a little while, another man who looked homeless with worn-out clothes came into the restaurant and sat near the nice suit man with a smile on his face. The nice suit man didn’t give back a smile with respect, and nor did he cast a glance at the homeless man.
Ten minutes later, the pizza arrived and was put in the middle of the table. The nice suit man couldn’t wait to eat it, so he grabbed (攫取) it without hesitation because of hunger. A few seconds later, the homeless man took a piece of the pizza and chewed it slowly with a happy smile on his face. “I won’t be angry about this, because he is a homeless person. It won’t really matter if he doesn’t continue to eat my second piece of pizza,” the nice suit man thought.
Then the homeless man took the second piece and third piece during the next ten minutes with a very satisfied smile. The nice suit guy finally got angry and shouted, “Why don’t you order one by yourself Why can’t you stop eating my pizza ” At the same time, the waiter came and held a pizza to the nice suit man, saying, “Sir, this one is yours and that one just now was this gentleman’s.” The nice suit man felt a little embarrassed and said to the homeless man, “Why didn’t you tell me the one just now was yours I am sorry to have shouted at you.” The homeless man was still calm and in peace with a kind voice, “Because you looked hungry and I like to share my food with you.” The nice suit man felt ashamed and he decided to give his whole one to the homeless man.
