Step 1. Free talk
1. First, teacher picks up some things from the students and asks:
A. What is it in English
B. Which pen is yours
C. Who often buys stationary for you
D. Whose eraser is white
E. When do you need to use a pencil
F. It’s such a long ruler, where can you put it, in the pencil case or in the schoolbag
G. Why is this pen so special It looks funny , where did you get it
H. How can I use this tap correctly Who can help me
2. Show these sentences with wh-question words. Ask students to talk about these question words’ meaning , then show the table on page 61. Lead Ss to read it and try to under the question words’ meaning and usage. Next , show the summary of usage of these wh-questions.
Step 2. Practice
1. The teacher says: Millie is a good girl. She loves to ask questions. Do you love to ask questions I think everyone should love to ask questions in English. Then you’ll be better at your English. Ask students to look at these pictures and help her fill the blank.
2. Show a picture of Part B and ask:
a. What is he eating Teach the new word “rice dumpling”.
b. Who can make rice dumplings in your family Teach the new word “grandparents”.
c. When do we eat rice dumplings
d. What other things do we do at Dragon Boat Festival Teach the new word “other”.
3. Teacher says: Millie also has some questions about festivals. What are they Let’s complete Part B.
Amy’s birthday is coming, Millie wants to go to the party. So she asks Amy about the birthday party. Ask Ss to complete Part C.
Check the answers and ask Ss to act the conversation.
Step 3. Activity
Show eight questions on the blackboard:
1. When is your birthday
2. How are you going to celebrate your birthday
3. What do you do for your birthday
4. What time is the birthday party going to start
5. Where are you going too have the party
6. Which is your favorite food
7. Who will sing at the party
8. Why don’t you ask your teacher to come to the party
Ask students to make dialogues in groups and use five questions of them at least.

1. Revise the usage of wh-questions .

Step 3 . Reading
Please read the poster and answer.

Ask students to read the table and guess what time the celebration starts.
Listen to the second part of the radio programme. Help Wendy complete the table in A1 . Check the answers and make sure the students can express the time correctly.
We know when they will do the activities, but where they will have all the activities. Please listen to the second part of the radio programme, and write down the exact Places. Check the answers and make sure the students can write the names of places correctly.
Step 5 . Writing
T: Wendy is writing a postcard to Millie about Chinese New Year celebrations. Please help Wendy finish her postcard.
Get the students to discuss the answers in groups and get some students to read it.
Read the postcard together. Let students ask wh-questions by themselves and answer. Then let Ss read together. Observe the form of the postcard.
Step 6 . Speak up

Millie is talking to her mother about the “ Festival week” at her school. Get Ss to read the conversation and answer the questions:

Make a poster in groups of four.
After finishing making posters, each group choose one student to show their poster and say how they will celebrate the festival in front of the classroom. See which group does the best job.

Write a letter back to Wendy about celebrating Chinese New Year in your family. (60 words)
