2Hero Album
There are large numbers of heroes in all walks of life around the world. Their inspiration is well worth learning for every student. In this hero album, some typical heroes are presented including Yury Gagarin, Florence Nightingale, Stan Lee’ heroes, Odysseus, Tu Youyou and Du Fuguo. Let’s learn about their experiences and contributions.
Yury Gagarin
Yury Gagarin(1934-1968) was an astronaut of the Soviet Union who became the first human in space. At school, the teachers liked Gagarin because he was clever and worked hard. In 1960, Gagarin became one of the twenty astronauts in a space programme. Gagarin trained hard so that he could travel into space.
Gagarin was not tall, so he got the chance to fly the small spaceship, the Vostok I. On 12th April 1961, Gagarin took off for space. After almost two hours, he landed safely back on earth. He became famous around the world and travelled a lot to tell people of his experience in space.

2. Florence Nightingale
Florence Nightingale was born on 12th May1820.In 1851she was trained as a nurse. Three years later, she went to a British military hospital so that she could help British soldiers. Before she arrived, many soldiers died in the hospital because it was dirty. Florence Nightingale worked hard to make the hospital clean and save soldiers’ lives. When she returned to Britain in 1856, she became a national hero. Florence Nightingale wrote several books about nursing, and she also started a school to train nurses. She died in London on 13th August 1910 when she was ninety years old.

3. Stan Lee
Stan Lee is a writer. He created many of our favourite heroes. Spiderman, Captain America, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and The Silver Surfer are some of them. In his stories, the heroes always win in the end. When he was young, he loved to watch his favourite actors in films. He wanted to create cartoon people just like them. He thought they were heroes because they were brave and didn't worry about danger. Real people in his life also helped Stan. His teacher told great stories, and made him love reading. The books he read, especially books by famous writers like Charles Dickens and Mark Twain, made him want to write. His mother was always proud of him, and told him his work was good.
Children often ask Stan how they can become writers. He tells them to read. He says they should read everything, not just their favourite kinds of books, or books by famous writers. He says that reading is the best way to learn to write. Stan hopes that teachers can make children want to learn. They can make history, geography, languages and science exciting. He says teachers should be more like actors, and make learning interesting.

4. Odysseus
My favourite Greek hero is Odysseus. He is the main character in The Odyssey a famous story by the Greek storyteller, Homer.
Odysseus and his friends go from Greece to Troy to fight. After ten years, they win and are very proud of themselves. Then they set off for home，but on their way, there is a great storm. They become lost, and that is the start of their great adventures. While they are travelling，they meet many strange people. Most of them want to hurt Odysseus and his friends. but a few help them. On one island a very big man with only one eye tries to kill them. During this fight, Odysseus loses many of his friends, but he manages to get away.
After ten years of fighting and ten more years on the way home. Odysseus completes his journey and manages to get back to his own country alone. His wife and son are waiting for him to come back. However, he looks so different that they fail to recognise him. After Odysseus saves his wife and son from some bad men they finally know who he is. He is happy to be back home again after so many adventures.
I like this story because it is interesting and exciting. I think Odysseus is a true hero. He is very clever and has a strong will. I also learn from him that great men never give up no matter what difficulties they face.

5.Tu Youyou
Tu Youyou, an 84-year-old Chinese woman, the first Chinese female scientist to be awarded a Nobel Prize for her work. She was born in Zhejiang Province, China. She studied medicine at Peking University Health Science Centre. After graduation, she became a member of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences.
In 1969, Tu Youyou was chosen to establish a team to find a cure for malaria（疟疾）—a disease that killed millions of people every year. Across the world, scientists had been trying to find a cure. They tested more than 240,000 chemicals with no success. However, Tu Youyou had an idea that Chinese herbs might hold the secret. She researched hundreds of traditional recipes（配方）connected to anti-malarial cures.
This was not an easy task. After hundreds of failed experiments, they eventually find out a promising chemical. It worked well in experiments on animals, but they had to know if it was safe for humans. Tu Youyou bravely volunteered to be the first human subject. The test was a success. The medicine they discovered, artemisinin（青蒿素）, has now become the world’s most effective drug for fighting malaria, saving millions of lives.
In 2019, she was selected as one of the most influential figures of science in the 20th Century along with Albert Einstein.

6. Du Fuguo
Du Fuguo is a soldier who won the august 1st medal. It was Oct 11, 2018. Demining soldier(扫雷兵) Du Fuguo and his teammates were doing a mine clearance (扫雷) in Yunnan. They found a grenade(手榴弹) Du asked his teammates to step back and went to check it by himself. Suddenly “Bang! The grenade exploded (爆炸). Du tried to protect his teammates. He did, but he lost his hands and eyes forever.
Before the accident, Du was an excellent demining soldier. He volunteered to join the China-Vietnam border (中越边境) mine clearance mission in 2015. Within just three months, he mastered (掌握) more than 10 different ways to remove bombs. In the three years before the accident, he entered minefields more than 1000 times. He had removed more than 150 tons of bombs, 400 land mines and dealt with over 20 emergency situations.
However, the accident didn’t break Du. The 31-year-old shines in other fields. He hosts a radio show about reading. He tries to help poor people fight poverty. He also shares his story to encourage people. “I can’t do mine clearances anymore, but I can share my stories with others.”
