Living on the Florida Emerald Coast, people view a hurricane as a common thing. So it is not unusual for a family to have several full gas cans and bottled water stored in their houses all summer.
Though unwilling to evacuate from a hurricane,on September 15, my family was forced to leave our home for my grandfather's house several miles away. We spent the early part of that evening watching the hurricane draw closer on the Weather Channel. Around nine o'clock, a loud sound shook the house, turned over the roof and carried it off. Soon came an indoor rainstorm.
Realizing the damage, my grandfather began to be afraid. The storm had started, but he still ran out into the heavy rain and wind to see how much of the roof was left. We got him back inside. I had never seen him so scared. Mom finally asked him to lie down in his room.
The leak had progressed rapidly. It soon became a race against time to protect what was saved. Some people may think it necessary to save material things, but I hoped to save those items with emotional value, such as the photos. I still feared the storm, but I more feared the influence it brought.
The next morning, it started to clear up. Thankfully, my family weathered the storm, though the same could not be said for the house. Only the wooden beams remained, but inside many of his things were safe. My mom and I had worked tirelessly through the night.
It was late, but we were still unwilling to go to bed. We discussed the rebuilding of the house. Under the beautiful sky, we suggested looking after my grandfather more often in the future. After this disaster, I realized the truth that the hurricane itself was not so terrible if we loved each other.

The weather affects many aspects of people's daily life.Knowing and understanding what the weather is doing is useful.
However, the weather is also one of the most unpredictable elements in the world. Although many people watch the morning news and gather the information about the weather, this is often wrong. Whole days can be mined by believing that the weather will be one thing, when it turns out to be another. However, owning wireless weather stations allows the owners to monitor (监视,检查) the weather for themselves.
Not only will these weather stations allow the owners to see what the weather is doing, but it is personalized (个性化) to them and their area. Wireless weather stations are specifically prepared for the immediate neighborhood. Plans will be able to be made, and important decisions will no longer be ruined by bad weather.
Although these weather stations are typically seen in homes, they can also be used very easily on farms and fishing boats. Both farmers and fishermen rely on the weather for their business and using up-to-date weather information is quite indispensable. By using the wireless weather stations, it can determine for them when to harvest crops and head back to the shore. Because of the size of the weather station, they can be moved very easily and used wherever necessary for people.
The wireless weather stations are great for all homes, especially for areas that suffer from extreme weather conditions. The up-to-date, instant weather reports will allow a person to monitor what the weather is doing and if the bad weather is heading in their direction. Extreme weather tends to come very quickly; therefore, any information that is received is helpful.
The weather stations are very simple to set up and are run by solar panels (太阳能板), ensuring they will work even if there is a power-cut. They are far smaller than those in previous years and give a couple of very simple read-outs for the owner. They are easy to use and fascinating to understand.

Earthquakes strike suddenly at any time of the day or night, but there's no way to tell when. If an earthquake happens, it may cause many deaths, injuries and damage. So you need a good preparation ahead of time. Decide how and where your family will get together if separated. Choose an out-of-state friend or relative that the family members can call after the quake to report where they are and how they are. Know the safe places in each room: under the strong tables, desks, or against inside walls. Keep enough food, water and other things, including a flashlight, a radio, medicines and clothing.
During the earthquake, you should keep a clear head and never be too nervous to know what to do. Protect your head and neck with your arms. If possible, take a book, a pillow or any other things to protect yourself from falling glass and ruins. If you are indoors, you must immediately lie under any strong furniture. If outdoors, move to an open area away from trees, buildings, walls or power poles. If you are in a narrow valley, move to the centre of it and look up for falling stones. If you are in a car, move to the side of the road and stop the car. Do not stop near buildings, power lines or on or under bridges. Stay in your car until the shaking stops.
Do not move a badly injured person unless he is in great danger after the earthquake. Do not use the telephone immediately unless there is a serious injury or fire. Turn on your radio for instructions and news reports. Be prepared for aftershocks. If you want to leave your home, post a message inside your home telling your family members where you can be found.

Every year, wildfires destroy millions of hectares of forest land.__16__ Smokejumpers help to stop this.
__17__ Smokejumpers are a special type of firefighters. They jump from planes or are lowered by helicopters into areas that are difficult to reach by car or on foot, such as the middle of a mountain forest. They race to put out fires as fast as they can.

In Russia, many smokejumpers know how to find food in the forest and even make simple furniture from trees.__20__ But for these firefighters, smokejumping isn't just a job. They love being able to jump out of planes, fight fires, and live in the forest. As 28-year-old Russian smokejumper Alexi Tishin says,“This is the best job for tough guys.”

Loving Parcels
In order to help the students in the flood area, our school held a “Loving Parcels” donation activity last week.
All of the teachers and students took an active part in the activity. They donated their clothes, books, and schoolbags and all of them were badly needed. In addition, they also wrote down the best wishes to those students on cards, which would be collected and delivered to the schools that were affected by the flood.

“Oh, Daddy, not my pearl necklace. But you can have my Barbie doll — the one you gave me.She's my favorite.”

The cheerful girl, Jenny, with golden hair was almost five.Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw a necklace of shining white pearls in a pink mental box.Quickly the mother checked the back of the little metal box and then looked back into the begging blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face.“A dollar and ninety-five cents. That's almost $2.If you really want it, I'll think of some extra housework for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy it for yourself.Besides, you might get another dollar bill from Grandma on your birthday a week away.”
After dinner back home, she did more housework and even she asked the neighbor for housework for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at least she had enough money to buy the cheap necklace from the dime store (廉价商店).
Jenny loved her pearl necklace. It really made her dressed up and grown up.She wore it everywhere. The only time she took it off was when swimming.
Jenny had a very loving Daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night when he finished the story, he asked Jenny,“Do you love me?”
“Oh, Daddy. You know that I love you.”
“Then give me your necklace.”
“Oh, Daddy, not my pearl necklace. But you can have my Barbie doll — the one you gave me.She's my favorite.”
