At the present time, the Internet is a major part of our lives. It's always in our hands or pockets. Whatever we are doing is somehow linked to the Internet. We start finding our connections online as well, which is quite impressive. We find a person on a social media platform, see we have a shared interest and start chatting!
Online friendships in the past were doubted and not considered reliable because you didn't know who was behind the screen. But now, when we can go shopping online, clear bills in online banks, and virtually attend schools, why can't we find some real friends online
With online friends, there are several advantages. When we find something catchy in someone — the very first quality of our online friend, we only then encourage ourselves to find ways to talk to them. We can share with them our everyday things, and what's better than texting our friends our secrets We can be present together with them on interested forums (论坛). We can share looks just through a click. And the best part is that we can shoot them a real quick message whenever we need their expert advice.
With all these strengths of an online friend, also come some weak points which make some people afraid to find their friends online. Some people believe that the person they are talking to on the screen is not real or trying to get information about their private life. They feel uncomfortable sharing and chatting with a person who they've never met in real life. Another problem that comes in the way of online friends is hanging out. People can't really hang out with their online friends. The other problem is miscommunication, which sometimes leads to the end of a friendship.
Despite all these problems, online company is a perfect form of relationship between two or more. After all, we would notice these problems in any other kind of relationship or friendship. Miscommunication or a trust issue is always present even in face to face communication.

Internet use appears to cause a decline in psychological well being (健康), according to research at Carnegie Mellon University.
Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet experienced more depression and loneliness than those who logged on less frequently, the two year study showed. And it wasn't that people who were already feeling bad spent more time on the Internet, but that using the Net actually appeared to cause the bad feeling.
Researchers are puzzling over the results, which were completely contrary to their expectations. They expected that the Net would prove socially healthier than television, since the Net allows users to choose their information and to communicate with others.
The fact that Internet use reduces time available for family and friends may account for the drop in well being, researchers suggested.Faceless, bodiless “virtual” (虚拟的) communication may be less psychologically satisfying than actual conversation, and the relationship formed through it may be shallower.Another possibility is that exposure to the wider world via the Net makes users less satisfied with their lives.
“But it's important to remember this is not about the technology per_se;_it's about how it is used,” says psychologist Christine Riley of Intel, one of the study's sponsors.“It really points to the need for considering social effects in terms of how you design applications and services for technology.”

E learning
Courses that are taught through the Internet, or online courses, have become popular in many countries.__16__ But most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom.Students watch the video online and take part in online activities. Some courses are free and open to anyone, giving students anywhere the chance to study at any time.
__17__ Some schools in Singapore, for example, have tablets (平板电脑) and touch screens instead of books and blackboards in the classrooms. There are also social media platforms (平台) to help the students work together on projects, and online “worlds” where the students can interact with each other and the digital environment while completing different tasks.
__18__ The teachers are in their home countries and are connected to the Korean classrooms through the Internet.Instead of looking at a screen, the students interact (互动) with a robot in the classroom. The robot is controlled by the teacher and can move around the classroom and talk with students. It is unlikely that robot teachers will replace real teachers.__19__
These important examples show us that e learning can be successful. Thanks to technology, more and more ways of teaching and learning are being developed.__20__ However, one thing is for sure — there has never been a more interesting time to be a student.
A.There's a golden rule of the Internet.
B.There are different kinds of online courses.

16.选B 后文“But most show a video of a teacher and students in a classroom.Students watch the video online and take part in online activities.”提到大多数网络课程都是在教室里播放老师和学生的视频,这是网络课程的形式,所以此处应该是指出网络课程有多种形式,以引出下文。
17.选D 根据后文“Some schools in Singapore, for example, have tablets(平板电脑) and touchscreens instead of books and blackboards in the classrooms.”可知,在新加坡的一些学校里,教室里用平板电脑和触摸屏代替书本和黑板,且新加坡的网络学习仅是本处填入句的一个例子,所以“世界各地都在测试其他类型的网络学习”衔接通顺,语意流畅。
18.选G 根据后文“The teachers are in their home countries and are connected to the Korean classrooms through the Internet.”可知,这些老师在自己的国家,通过互联网与韩国的教室相连,所以前句应该是说明韩国的学生可以向远在异国的老师学习英语。
19.选F 根据前文“The robot is controlled by the teacher and can move around the classroom and talk with students. It is unlikely that robot teachers will replace real teachers.”

I have a friend who is afraid of spiders. This isn't very unusual; a lot of people are afraid of spiders.I don't really like spiders much myself. But my friend isn't afraid of spiders in any normal way.She isn't just afraid of spiders, she is totally, completely and utterly terrified of them. When she sees a spider, she shivers all over and sometimes she freezes completely — she can't move at all because she is so scared.Sometimes she even faints.
She decided to do something about her terror, so she went to visit a doctor. After knowing my friend's situation, the doctor got out a small spider from his desk.It wasn't a real spider. It was made of plastic.Even so,my friend screamed when she saw it.“Don't worry,” said the doctor.“It's not a real spider.” “I know, ” said my friend.“But I'm afraid of it just the same.”
“Hmm,” said the doctor.“A serious case ...” He put the plastic spider on the desk. When my friend stopped screaming, the doctor told her to touch it.When she stopped screaming again — the idea of touching the plastic spider was enough to make her scream — she touched it.At first she touched it for just one second. She shivered all over, but at least she managed to touch it.“OK,” said the psychiatrist, “that's all for today and you can go home now.”
My friend went back the next day,and found the plastic spider was already on the doctor's desk. This time she touched it and held it for five minutes. Then the doctor told her to go home and come back the next day.The next day she went back and the plastic spider was on her chair. She had to move the spider so she could sit down. The next day she held the spider in her hand while she sat in her chair. The next day, the doctor gave her the plastic spider and told her to take it home with her. After a deep breath, she agreed.
