Ⅰ.阅读理解
A recent story in The Wall Street Journal looked at students who went to celebrated universities such as Columbia University and New York University, for advanced degrees in subjects like art, film and even social work. Many of the students said they learned a lot. However, when they graduated, they were deep in debt and did not think they would find work that would let them pay back their loans.
Students said they spoke with Columbia University about the high cost of advanced arts degrees but never received a reasonable answer. Education experts say the school is very wealthy, with large funds. The University, however, prefers to ask the students to pay the full cost.
Kevin Carey is a higher education expert for New America, a public policy research center. He called the master's degree“a scam” in a conversation. “Charging people a ton of money to go into any artistic career is often super problematic,” he said.
Castillo is an actor in New York City. He earned an MFA from The Actors Studio in New York City. Was his MFA worth the cost “I do think it was worth it.I don't put a price tag on my education or my experience. I think it's sort of unfortunate that so many people take education for granted.” Castillo said students who are thinking about an advanced degree in art should be sure they are doing it because they value the education, not because they want money or to be famous.
Plazinska is a filmmaker in New York City. She attended graduate school both at Baylor University in Texas and at the University of Iowa.Arts graduate programs can help students meet and make friends with fellow artists with whom they can work throughout their careers. For school to be of value, students need to remember why they started making art in the beginning.“It's just for the pure pleasure of creating and fulfilling myself this way.”

(2023·湖南师大附中模拟) When David was nine and Laura was twelve, the battles started. Before that, they got along great.Laura was always protective of her little brother, and he in turn, was very fond of her.
Maybe it was about needing space or demanding independence.Whatever the reason was, it drove my husband and me crazy. It would start over the smallest of excuses. One minute the house would be quiet, and the next they'd be shouting at one another. And on and on it would go.Until, finally, one of us would have to step in.And there would be a truce (休战) ...sort of.At least until the next fight. Our once happy home was being turned into a war area.
One night, in hopelessness, we called the kids into the living room and told them how upsetting their behavior was.We asked them for ideas about how we could regain peace in the family.
We asked each of them to come up with a half dozen appropriate results that we could apply the next time they had a fight.
The following day we were presented with a list of results from each. Some even looked pretty good.Examples: Clean the other person's room; Do the dishes for the other person; Hug and make up, etc.
We decided to arrange those results around the edge of a board, and then we attached a spinning arrow in the middle. When you gave it a spin, the arrow would finally stop and point to one of the results. Then we hung the board up in the kitchen.
It was amazing.Just the existence of the board, hanging on our kitchen wall, had an immediate calming effect on the atmosphere in our home. But it only took about ten days before peace was destroyed by another battle. So we called them both into the kitchen.

参考范文:
Paragraph 1:
We took the board down off the wall and placed it on the table. With heads down, both kids dared not speak, wondering what punishments would land on them. After what seemed hours, Laura broke the ice, “I'm sorry, Mom and Dad, but I really can't stand it, I mean, David's smelly socks and dirty clothes and ...” David cut in angrily, “Huh, who else would leave paints and crayons everywhere What a torture to clean your room!” It seemed that another war would start.I stopped them, asking tentatively, “Could we make a change of the board?” “Approval!” they yelled, eyes sparkling with interest. After discussion, we agreed to erase the words from the board but left “Hug and make up”.
Paragraph 2:
In the same spirit, we ended up making boards with other themes.Examples: Keep silent for five minutes; Look in the mirror and smile; Send a handmade gift ... Soon around the edge of the board appeared a dozen appropriate results. We put the board back onto the kitchen wall.In the later months, we changed those words for the better and fresher.Miraculously, with fights and tears getting fewer, our house was filled with hugs and laughter.Action speaks louder or words do wonders Who knows

一、主题下的语篇训练
Ⅰ.阅读理解
Ranjitsinh Disale was awarded the desired prize in recognition of his efforts at promoting girls' education and causing a quick-response or QR coded (二维码) textbook revolution in India.
He made it to the top 10 shortlist from a pool of over 12,000 entries from 140 countries. In his acceptance speech, he said, “Teachers are the real change-makers who are changing the lives of their students with a mixture of chalk and challenges. They always believe in giving and sharing. And, therefore, I am very pleased to announce that I will share 50 percent of the prize money equally among my fellow top 10 finalists to support their incredible work.I believe, together, we can change this world because sharing is growing.”
Disale, 31, arrived at the Zilla Parishad Primary School in Paritewadi village in Solapur district in 2009 when it was a dilapidated building, sandwiched between a cattle shed and a storeroom. His attempt to turn things around saw him not only translating the class textbooks for his students into their mother tongue but also embedding them with unique QR codes to give students access to audio poems, video lectures, stories and assignments. The impact was such that there was 100 percent attendance of girls at the school in the village.
The use of QR coded textbooks has greatly improved students' interest in learning, and students can scan the QR code on textbooks to obtain knowledge beyond textbooks, which has strongly stimulated students' motivation to learn. In some areas with backward education, textbooks are the only learning materials for students in most cases, so the use of QR coded textbooks provides students with a new way to acquire more knowledge.
