(2023·盐城模拟)About six years ago, I started having panic attacks.I began my journey to solve them with traditional tools, all of which were a great help.Thankfully, a year later treatment was no longer needed.
Frustratingly, about a year after that, I started to develop depression and began to have panic attacks once again.I tried what I knew best and went back to my previous tools, but I was still struggling and far from feeling well again until I got some new advice.
I loved to sing when I was young. My childhood had been filled with creativity, yet for most of my adult life, it was overlooked.A doctor told me that mental health problems are common among the creative minds of the world when creativity is suppressed (压制).To regain it, I decided to get back into singing. Then I joined a group called Sound, a pop band.Much better, I found the courage to audition (试音).I was amazed that I managed to get through such a risky situation and not have a panic attack. The audition itself was a win for me, never mind how I did.
I have now been a member of the band for three years.I love the performance. It reminds me of who I was at school. My path back then was always “do what you love”.My entire education was filled with fond memories because of that, and I was starting to build that back into my adult life. Now, I am feeling a lot better. When I panic, distraction is key and singing does help.It sends me into a state in which my body works with pure joy.More importantly, I will have exercised my creativity and never feel panic.

Lighthouse Planning
Goal setting is an important part of staying active, focused and excited about the future.__5__
Some goals in our life are clear, simple and easy. For example, to make a home-made dinner every Sunday is such a type of goal for me.To achieve it, I only need to create a list of supplies to buy and set aside time according to my schedule.
__6__ In terms of these goals, I love the idea of “lighthouse planning”.In this technique, we reach a goal by imagining it as a lighthouse in the distance. It's dark as we get in our boats and we don't know exactly how we're going to get to that bright destination. But our lighthouse never stops flashing in the distance and it is never entirely out of sight.__7__
Now think about your lighthouse and identify it.__8__ For example, you might set your goal as “I want to become more creative”.Identifying your lighthouse is a way to start your journey with big purposes.
But if you look around and realize that your lighthouse is getting farther away rather than closer, you should redirect your path to your lighthouse.__9__ If you've ever rowed a boat, you know there can be headwinds and storms along your journey. In that case, focus on the next spot on the horizon instead of powering through all the way to the end.
A.Just give it a try.
B.Don't wear yourself out.
C.We can make a plan that will get us there.
D.A lighthouse-like goal is something broader.
E.So we start rowing in the direction of the light.
F.However, some goals in our life are bigger and more challenging.
G.Having goals and keeping moving to them are part of walking a positive path.

(2023·沈阳模拟)Java's Café is a fundamental extension of the Rochester experience, opening its arms to comfort coffee, tea, and dessert lovers alike. For the typical UR students, the Java's on Gibbs St.has become a place of solace during stressful testing times, and on more heartwarming occasions, a social hub.
Slowly approaching its thirties, Java's has enjoyed a good reputation in the local area.In 1978, Java Joe created a coffee farm in Hawaii. With great dedication to his craft, the great master of coffee beans made his way to Rochester then.In 1992, Joe decided to start selling coffee at the Public Market and opened up a store on Gibbs St.with the help of Michael Calabrese. This location, next to the Eastman School of Music, is the first of many shops Java Joe opened. As a lover of the blues, Joe enthusiastically decorated this flagship store with artistic and musical influence.
After this Gibbs location, Joe planted Java Joe's where he was first starting out — at the Public Market.Later, Java Joe's moved to a nearby building, and received a name change — Java's at the Market Coffee Roasters. This building served as a place where those who visited would often catch a glimpse of Joe skillfully roasting his coffee beans in the dancing flames and cultivating his drinks with care. However, in 1997 he licensed Calabrese to run “Java Joe's”, who then renamed the Gibbs Café to what we know today — Java's Café.
Joe remained in the Public Market location until he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.Joe died of lung cancer at 68.The influence he had poured into his business is well-known and highly regarded. He won many awards in his life.
Next time you head down to Gibbs St.for your morning cup, keep in mind the extraordinary story of how that cup came into being, all thanks to Java Joe.

(2023·南京模拟)The new radio programme from self-help expert Glennon Doyle unexpectedly disturbed me.In a session of We Can Do Hard Things, she focuses on boundaries and their importance to our mental happiness.I heartily agree with her, because saying a polite but firm “no” is one of the basics for a happy life.I was, however, interested when she raised the idea that perhaps, as well as learning when to confirm our boundaries, we also need to stretch them. When does a boundary become a cage that locks us away
Isn't it always the case that just as you think you've got an area of life nailed, somebody comes along to show you that that's not the case As I listened, I started to see boundaries that might cause more problems than they were solving.
There was the work boundary that said unless a project fell exactly into my topics, I wouldn't take it — which meant that I turned down work that was otherwise interesting and rewarding.
There was the boundary that said I wasn't to buy anything until I'd reached my savings goal — which resulted in me having to restart my laptop 20 times a day.
And then there was a boundary around relationships that set out exactly how I should be treated and what I wanted in them.Helpful to some extent, it blocked me from allowing someone to express their love for me, even if it wasn't quite what I had predicted.
Had I been doing boundaries wrong all the time Did I need to figure them all out again I've spent the past few weeks looking at the boundaries I've secretly put in place, and I've let myself lower some that have been my protection over the years. Then I've come to the conclusion that, when it comes to boundaries, I'm a beginner again, and that's fine.In fact, being back at the beginning is a blessing because it means there are still lessons to be learned and adventures to be had and that is something for which I can only be grateful.

解析:选D 推理判断题。 根据第一段中的“I was, however, interested ... confirm our boundaries, we also need to stretch them.”可知,作者对该栏目感兴趣的地方是“重新评价我们的界限问题的必要性”。
6.What can be concluded as to the author's views on boundaries
A.We should favour savings goals over boundaries.
B.Boundaries tend to keep us from potential friends.
C.Boundaries are very likely to relieve boredom at work.
D.We should stick to boundaries despite inconvenience.
解析:选B 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段第二句可知,界限往往会让我们远离潜在的朋友。
7.How did the author feel about boundaries after the adjustments
A.Relaxed. B.Depressed.
C.Excited. D.Amused.
解析:选A 推理判断题。 根据最后一段中的“being back at the beginning is a blessing”可知,作者认为自己重新开始是件好事,在调整之后,作者感到很放松。
8.What is probably the best title for the passage
A.Just when you think you've got things sorted ...
