The Spring Festival falls on the first day of the Chinese lunar New Year. The Spring Festival is as important as Christmas in the U.S. and Chinese people have been celebrating it for many years. It means running out of the bad things of past, but welcoming the good luck of the new beginning.
Topic sentence is necessary, you’d better add a topic sentence .
Comparing The Spring Festival with Christmas is not sufficient enough to show the importance. You should present what the spring festival means to Chinese people.
We should replace running out of with saying goodbye to.
