On October 24, 1901,Annie Edson Taylor climbed into a big barrel, determined to go over Niagara Falls and live.
In a few minutes, the 43-year-old teacher from Bay City, Michigan, was strapped into the cask and set adrift. As thousands watched, the barrel was swept along swiftly to the edge. Over it went, hurtling toward the pool 160 feet below.
In ten seconds the barrel appeared in the spray and mist below. Shouts and cheers rose from the crowd on the nearby bank. About fifteen minutes later, when the cask was reached and opened, her aide exclaimed,“She’s alive!”

Do you save pennies Lots of people do. In Washington, D.C, a special group of people are trying to persuade the government to get rid of the penny. These people want to convince the government that pennies are more trouble to carry than they are worth. Others at the U.S. Mint, the place where pennies are made, disagree. They say pennies are here to stay because most people want them.
Some people think finding a penny will bring good luck. However, they are often thrown out with the trash. In one garbage recycling plant in Florida, workers find $1,000.00 in pennies every week.
