A Short History of Western Painting 教案
Ⅰ Teaching aims
To arouse students’ interest in learning about art.
To develop students’ some basic reading skills.
To learn some new words.
To know about the history of western painting.
Ⅱ Teaching Important Points
The new phrases and words concerning with art.
How to get a good understanding of the different western painting styles.
Ⅲ Teaching Aids
CAI equipment with a multi-media classroom and other normal teaching tools.
Ⅳ Teaching Procedures
Step1. Leading-in
Purpose: To activate Ss and arouse them to talk about art.
Show a video of many western paintings.
Step2. Warming up
Purpose: To lead Ss to prepare for the forms of art.
Show some paintings of western art to teach students the important words in this text.
Step 3. Read the first paragraph together and answer the questions.
Q: What is the main idea in paragraph 1?
Art is influenced by the customs and faithof people.
Reading tips:
While you are reading , pay attention to the first paragraph and the first sentence of each paragraph.
Step 4. Skimming
Read the title and headings in the text. Fill in the timeline


Step 5. Detail reading
Divide the whole class into four groups. Give each group the following exercise.
(1) The Style of the Middle Ages

Create a feeling of respect and love for God

Adopt a more humanistic attitude to life
