17 As Luck Would Have It
一、请根据两个提示句进行故事续写,150词左右。
Have you ever felt lucky I have. One autumn afternoon, I was a stay-at-home mom then, and my husband had been laid off unexpectedly.
While we plotted our next course, I was faced with the task of budgeting the few hundred dollars that remained in our checking account. That early fall night, I went to the Kroger near our house to get something for dinner. A University of Tennessee pep rally was just getting started. Kroger and UT were giving away all sorts of prizes. The cheerleaders were performing, and the local pizza shop beside Kroger had a great deal on a large pizza.
I called my husband. I had registered us to win $100 in free groceries, but we had to be present to win. I told him I felt lucky. He thought I was crazy, but I was convinced that since we truly needed free groceries until one or both of us could find work, we would win them. He reminded me that not everything works out like we hope or expect.
I laughed. “Come on!” I said. “I can’t cook a meal for less than ten dollars, and I know our little gal will enjoy the cheerleaders.” I could virtually hear the eye-rolling on the other end of the line. Then I heard our daughter say, “I wanna see the cheerleaders, Daddy! Please ” I knew I had won.
Soon, we were enjoying our pizza at an outdoor table, watching the pep rally, and listening as the various first-round prizes like twenty-dollar gift cards were given away between dance and cheer routines. When the gift table was mostly emptied of prizes, my husband looked at me in that I-told-you-so way because he was convinced that, if we did win anything, it would have been one of the lesser-value prizes.
It was nearly dark, and the pizza was gone; my husband was ready to go. Many others were also leaving as the parking-lot lights came on.
“Oh, come on,” I said, “let’s wait for the big prizes. I feel lucky.” My husband sighed, giving in, and finally the moment we’d been waiting for arrived. The grocery-card winner was announced and… It was not me. My husband gave me a shrug, his folded lips curled upward in a sympathetic smile. I think he hoped my enthusiasm and confidence were going to be rewarded.
Waiting as the event was completely finished, we heard my name being called over the loudspeakers. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ The money offered by the couple for UT football tickets got us through the extra week until my husband got paid from his new job. _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________

As Luck Would Have It
Have you ever felt lucky I have. It feels as if your choices are scripted, like confidence on steroids. One autumn afternoon I had a gut feeling that I should take a chance.
At the time, I was a stay-at-home mom, and my husband had been laid off unexpectedly.
The cheerleaders were performing, and the local pizza shop beside Kroger had a great deal on a large pizza with two sodas for ten bucks.
Please ” That was it. I knew I had won.
Soon, we were enjoying our pizza at an outdoor table, watching the pep rally, and listening as the various first-round prizes like twenty-dollar gift cards to paraphernalia were given away between dance and cheer routines.
He gathered the pizza trash to dispose of.
Before we could argue about staying until the event was completely finished, we heard my name being called over the loudspeakers. I had won the drawing for a pair of UT football tickets! My husband just about fell over. I cracked up. The very minute I had the tickets in hand, a couple approached me. They offered me $100 cash for the tickets because they’d come to the pep rally hoping to win tickets to a home game since the games usually sold out. We all left the parking lot happy.
I had stayed, hoping to get $100 for groceries, and I did, even though it didn’t happen in the way I thought it would. My husband found a job soon after that. But the money I was offered for those tickets was just enough to get us through the extra week until he got paid from his new job. It also gave us a little boost to know that things were going to be okay, even when they felt uncertain.
That was years ago, but still whenever I say that I feel lucky, my husband says, “So, do you think we should play the lottery ”
