The states of the world are increasingly concerned with the occurrence of disasters. Both natural disasters and disasters caused by humans such as war have caused some people to be vigilant (警惕的) and some people have realized they have to make preparations to diminish the effect caused by such disasters.
Last year in Japan and Indonesia hundreds of thousands of their citizens lost their lives due to the tsunami (海啸), which was struck by the most powerful earthquake that began in the Pacific Ocean. So training in disaster risk reduction in Japan and Indonesia is not limited only to adults, but is applied to the school curriculum so that the understanding of disaster risk reduction can be applied as early as possible to children. People also need training in order to reduce the risk of disasters caused by humans. For example, the country which consistently implements (实施) the training and education is South Korea because it has the threat (威胁) of attack at any time from the North Korean side.
The main results of disaster risk reduction education are to produce contingency plans (应急计划) and emergency plans, which are expected to reduce the risk effects of disasters. So in short, disaster risk reduction education is very important to all countries.

C. People need no training in dealing with disasters caused by humans.

My favorite novel now would be the American author Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain. It’s an interesting book which looks into our world through the eyes of a golden, four-legged creature, with fur, ears, and a tail.
Sometimes, the thought of describing my favorite reading brings me back to the terrible days of strict schooling. The teachers always asked us to read. Enjoying books was never the problem, but sometimes they crammed (塞) down my throat and those of my classmates. Being free from those days is a fantastic pleasure, being free to enjoy the literature I care for and pass what I don’t.
The Art of Racing in the Rain describes the life of Denny and his faithful friend, Enzo. They meet life’s normal and unbelievable changes and turns together. Denny bears much as he races in his car. His passion (热情) carries him through troubles of marriage, raising children, and facing cruelty as well as some large misunderstanding in the world. Through Enzo’s thoughts, the world Denny lives in, becomes truths in our own lives. The fascination words of the novel can do little less than pull your emotions.
We all struggle with fate (命运), but few could put it so instructively as being free, continuing the journey elsewhere, and playing out all the dreams and pleasure which we can only imagine. It’s this beautiful reasonable wording that drives the book forward. Stein delivers the wise truths of sympathy and hard work in an amount to compete with Albom’s Tuesdays with Morrie. And he does so with the impassioned excitement of a dog living and breathing the air. I love dogs and I love cars, but I don’t Know enough about either.
The Art of Racing in the Rain is so well created that you feel it would be natural for Denny to jump into a Ferrari and scream on the way, and Enzo moves its tail from the stand in the rain. This is also a book for the next generation of readers to value.
60.Garth Stein’s novel talks about the world from the observation of .
A. a person. B. a toy animal of a child
C. a strange creature from space D. an ordinary four-legged animal
61.Which is correct about the author’s teachers?
A. They made him listen carefully.
B. They caused him to enjoy literature actively.
C. They taught him patiently and enthusiastically.
D. They forced students to learn too much at a time.
62.From the first three paragraphs we learn that .
A. Denny likes his car race but doesn’t like his life
B. the author enjoyed the life in his school very much
C. Denny experienced a lot of hardship and challenges in life
D. the author thinks nothing of the words of Stein’s novel
C
The implication is that only the best will be hired away, so every effort must be made now to retain(保留) these employees------before the opportunity to leave presents itself. The Gallagher report also states that employers know that there is no place for their employees to go, given the weak economy, so they don’t worry about it.
Because of unemployment, those retained employees have the advantage of doing their current job, plus some of the workload of those laid off. Everyone understands the rule of “doing more with less.” That has been the new normal for 15 years-------employees understand the need for production increases. But interpersonal competence will allow employers to gain much more money.
I commented that by sharing the management’s most valuable thing-------its time and attention, a connection could be made. That connection can be turned into a bond between employers and employees. When that bond is made, engagement(聘用)occurs and the turnover(人事变更率)drops. If employers continue to treat employees badly, they will see larger numbers of common employees. The good ones will go away and the common ones will be left. The economy is bound to recover, and the pace of hiring will improve. Unfortunately for those currently unemployed, the first jobs out of the improved economy will go to the currently employed.
Don’t let that happen. How? Connect with your employees. Communicate with them. Listen to them. Act on some of their suggestions. They are good at reading you. Don’t make a slight attempt at this. Open up to their questions. By evolving(逐步形成的)into an interpersonally competent organization, the numbers of engaged employees will grow, and they will tend to stay too.
63.The underlined word “startling” in the first paragraph means .
A. amusing B. amazing C. exciting D. impossible
64.Why are employers not worried about employees’ leaving?
A. Because they give their employees good pay.
B. Because economic situations are very optimistic.
C. Because their employees are devoted to them.
D. because economic situations are still not optimistic.
65.What can we learn from the passage?
A. The retained employees work very hard in the office.
B. The economy makes more employees change their job.
C. The retained employees create more value.
D. The retained employees do more work than before because of some people’s unemployment.
66. Who will be hired by the boss with the recovery of the economy?
A. Those already out of work.
B. Those working at present.
C. The newly-graduated college students.
D. Those with bad relations with their boss.
67.How can a boss make good employees willing to work for him?
A. By exchanging ideas with them and applying their good advice.
B. By making a little attempt at communicating with them.
C. By giving them better pay than common ones.
D. By firing more common employees in the company.
D
There are three main learning types. You can be a combination of learning types, but most people have one type that dominates(支配). If you seem to easily remember information from pictures, graphs(图表), and videos, you are likely a visual learner. If you seem to remember things by hearing them, whether listening to a lecture or repeating information out loud, then you are likely an auditory(听觉的)learner. If you seem to learn best by working with your hands or testing out what you are shown, you are likely a kinesthetic learner(动觉学习者).
Now that you know your personal learning style, you should also know how to use your new-found knowledge to help you in your class. For visual learners, if your professor uses a PowerPoint, observe the pictures it might include and their significance. Take notes by drawing graphs and connecting ideas instead of just copying down a list. This way, your brain will easily connect different concepts. You can even draw pictures if you find that works better for you.
For auditory learners, if you aren’t listening while the lecture is happening, you’re missing out on the easiest way for you to learn without having to make up for if later on. If you think it would help and get permission from the professor, you can record the lecture for future listening.
For kinesthetic learners, it’s extremely important that you take notes either by writing or typing, in order to actively engage with(使衔接)information as you receive it. Take advantage of labs and other class activities. Concentrate on what you’re learning from the experience and pay close attention to the process that you go through.
68.Accordin to the passage, what plays the main role in one’s study difficulty?
A. Study habits. B. Study time. C. Study types. D. Subjects.
69.What can we infer from the passage?
A. Auditory learners learn best by seeing.
B. Most people have a combination of learning types.
C. The easiest way for one to learn best is through hearing.
D. Knowing your learning type can help your study greatly.
70.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A. Some tips for learning best.
B. How to learn difficult subjects well.
C. Three learning types and how to take advantage of them.
D. How to use advanced modern equipment to learn.

There are numerous agencies that provide education grants(教育补助金)and scholarships for ambitious individuals. Education grants and scholarships are offered to students who meet specific academic standards and are from a low –income group. People require education grants to improve their existing skill levels and to further their career goals with higher education.
Pell Grants are offered by the Federal government. Ambitious students need to fill in the Free Application for Federal Student Aid(FAFSA)so that the government can evaluate whether the student concerned is qualified for the grant. Pell Grants are usually awarded to students who are yet to complete their bachelor’s degree(学士学位). The student needs to be an American citizen. The assistance that a student gets depends on many factors that include the financial need of the student, whether the student is going to join a part-time or a full-time course.
Students who have received Pell Grants but still find themselves in difficulty starting their education for lack of money can rely on Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant(FSEOG). These grants are provided for the student by the school concerned. The schools receive a stipulated(有明文规定的)funding for the U.S. Department of Education and give these funds to students on a first-come –first –serve basis. Students should realized the deadline(截止时间)for filling in FAFSA.
The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant(TEACH)is aimed to assist students who are facing financial(财政的)difficulty in completing their teaching courses. The maximum amount that is provided under the TEACH grant is $4000. This grant differs from other education grants because a student needs to complete a course to become qualified, and needs to work as a teacher in an elementary or secondary school for four years as specified by the authorities.
These are some established education grants. Besides. There are a number of other grants that are supported by the state government. Nonprofit organizations also make ambitious and needy students’ dream come true by helping them with scholarships.
