45Pierre, the Gentle Giant
一、请根据两个提示句进行故事续写,150词左右。
One early summer afternoon, my little brother and I were about a quarter-mile from our home, deep in the woods by a river we liked to play near. We’d stay out so long that my brother usually kept snacks in his pockets so we wouldn’t need to go home until suppertime.
My brother spotted Pierre drinking from the river. He wanted to go pet him, but I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea. Pierre was an extra-large German Shepherd(牧羊犬). That didn’t scare me. I loved big dogs. But on the day we found Pierre, his appearance was frightening. With many blood-encrusted(结痂的)wounds and completely thin and dull fur, he was so skinny that we could see his individual ribs(肋骨). As we got closer, I could tell he was shaking in fear. My heart went out to this poor dog, but I wasn’t sure how to help him.
Even at only five years old, my brother was braver than I was. Growing up around animals, he knew how to approach the scared dog and offered him some of our snacks. Pierre stopped shaking, and his eyes lit up with hope. When Pierre carefully ate and then gently pushed his big head into my brother’s little hand for petting, my fears melted away. My desire to help him overrode my fear of his appearance.
We knew Mom loved animals, but meanwhile was afraid of big dogs. Even if not sure whether Mom would accept this extra-large one, we decided to take Pierre home. Then we gave him a good bath in the river, trying to make him look more presentable(像样的).
That quarter-mile trail home was up a steep hill, so Pierre had to have taken every bit of his energy reserves to follow us. Finally our back yard was in the sight. We hadn’t figured out how to approach our mom about Pierre yet, so we hid him behind the shed(棚屋).
I went inside to ask Mom if we could have a picnic supper in the yard, figuring Pierre could “happen” to come to our table. After getting Mom’s approval, I helped to set the table, hoping this poor skinny giant could appear timely while we were eating, winning Mom over.
But before we all sat down to eat, Pierre timidly(胆小地)approached the table. _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________ Gradually, with lots of good food and loving attention, Pierre’s emotional wounds healed as well as his body. _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________

Pierre, the Gentle Giant
One early summer afternoon, my little brother and I were about a quarter-mile from our home, deep in the woods by a river we liked to play near. We’d stay out so long that my brother usually kept snacks in his pockets so we wouldn’t need to go home until suppertime.
My brother spottedPierre drinking from the river. He wanted to go pet him, but I wasn’t so sure it was a good idea. Pierre was an extra-large German Shepherd. That didn’t scare me. I loved big dogs. But on the day we found Pierre, his appearance was frightening. He had many blood-encrusted wounds, and he was so emaciated that we could see his individual ribs. He had sparse, dull fur, and was completelyfilthy. But when I looked at his posture, I could see that he was petrified of us. As we got closer, I could tell he was shaking in fear. My heart went out to this poor, abused dog, but I wasn’t sure how to help him.
Even at only five years old, my brother was more adventurous and brave than I was. While I was debating how best to help Pierre, he approached the scared dog and offered him some of our snacks. Pierre stopped shaking, and his eyes lit up with hope. When Pierre carefully ate and then nudged his big head into my brother’s little hand for petting, my fears melted away. He was clearly a good dog who had been in a bad situation. My desire to help him overrode my fear of his appearance.
My brother was eager to bring him up to the house right away, but Pierre looked like he’d been outside alone for a long time. So I thought we should clean him up a bit before bringing him home and asking if we could keep him. We gave him as good a bath in the river as two little kids can manage without any soap. Pierre patiently endured our efforts to make him look more presentable. He seemed to understand that we were trying to help him.
That quarter-mile trek home was up a very steephill. Pierre limped from some of his injuries and seemed so weak that I wasn’t sure he could make it. We stopped to rest a couple of times on the way up the hill, and Pierre somehow found the strengthto make it all the way up. It had to have taken every bit of his energy reserves to do so.
The woods eventually opened to a clearing that was our back yard. We hadn’t figured out how to approach our mom about Pierre yet, so we concealed him behind the shed. I asked my brother to give the dog food and water and to do his best to keep Pierre quiet.
I went inside, and Mom asked where my brother was. I told her he was playing happily in the back yard and asked if we could have a picnic supper there. I figured if Pierre could “happen” to come to the table while we were eating, she would see how skinny he was and want to feed and keep him. She said sure, and then asked me to set the picnic table for dinner.
I hoped that Pierre would stay behind the shed at least for a few minutes, but before we all sat down to eat, Pierre timidly approached the table. Pierre’s pathetic appearance must have calmed Mom’s nerves because while she looked anxious for a second, she took a deep breath, and then slowly and gently approached him.
It was probably best that we had already given him a bit of a bath. And his wounds didn’t look quite as bad. Unfortunately, it turned out that Pierre was afraid of adults. When Mom got close to him, he hung his head, his tail dipped down between his legs, and from the sudden smell, I think he might have wet himself.
So even though my mother is one of the most animal-loving people I’ve ever known, it seemed best for her not to touch him just yet. My brother and I gave him more food and water, and did our best to comfort him. He took a few days to warm up to Mom. Her gentle, loving nature did win him overeventually.
Pierre’s body healed faster than his emotional wounds. Before summer was over, he had aluxuriouscoat and a strong, healthy body. His ribs were covered by powerful muscles. He looked like a whole new dog. With lots of good food and loving attention, Pierre became the physically powerful dog he was created to be. We played with him for hours every day, and he soaked it all up happily. He loved us unconditionally. Pierre, our gentle giant, was the best treasure we ever found in the woods.

读后续写
But before we all sat down to eat, Pierre timidly approached the table. It was probably best that we had already given him a bit of a bath. I eagerly explained to Mom how we had met Pierre in the woods. It must be his poor appearance that calmed Mom’s nerves. While she looked anxious for a second, Mom took a deep breath, and then slowly and gently approached him. Unfortunately, Pierre seemed to be afraid of adults, drawing back shakily. Realizing it not the right time for Mom to touch him now, my brother and I did our best to comfort him.
Gradually, with lots of good food and loving attention, Pierre’s emotional wounds healed as well as his body. He looked like a whole new dog. He had a luxurious coat and a strong, healthy body, with his ribs covered by powerful muscles. More importantly, he felt at ease with us though he remained afraid of strange adults. We played with him for hours every day, and he soaked it all up happily. He loved us unconditionally. For us, Pierre, the gentle giant, was the best treasure we ever found in the woods.
