A. Linking verb be
系动词亦称连系动词,它本身有词义,但不能单独用作谓语,后边必须跟表语,构成系表结构说明主语的状况、性质、特征等情况。
常见的系动词有以下几种:
状态系动词
持续系动词
感官系动词
变化系动词
表像系动词

★ 状态系动词
状态系动词用来表示主语状态,通常只有be (am / is / are / was / were)一词。
彼得很聪明。
Peter is very clever.

B. Other linking verbs
★ 持续系动词
持续系动词用来表示主语继续或保持一种状况或态度,常见的该类系动词有keep, remain, stay等,这几个词都可意为“保持”。如:
格林先生开会时总保持沉默。
Mr Green always kept silent at the
meeting.
★ 感官系动词
感官系动词主要有:
look 看起来
smell 闻起来
sound 听起来
taste 尝起来
feel 摸起来
她的主意听起来很不错。Her idea sounds great.
这种布手感很软。 This kind of cloth feels very soft.
★ 变化系动词
那个小女孩先是发怒,后来又伤心起来。
The little girl first got angry and then later became sad.
她没多长时间就富了。
She grew rich within a short time.
变化系动词表示主语变成什么样,常见的该类系动词有:become, grow, turn, get, go, come等,皆有“变得;变成”之意。
★ 表像系动词
表像系动词主要有:
seem, appear, look 等,意为“看起来像”。如:
他好像很伤心。   
He seems very sad.
他看起来很累。
He looks tired. 
他看起来很伤心。
He seems (to be) very sad.

C. Linking verbs followed by nouns or noun phrases
系动词之后常跟形容词作表语,但有些系动词也可跟名词或名词短语作表语。
能跟名词作表语的系动词常见的有:
be, become, appear, seem, prove, remain和 turn等。
注意:turn后跟(表示主语身份的)名词作表语时,不加冠词。
二十年之后,他成为了一名老师。
Twenty years later, he turned teacher.
在中国,人口增长仍然是一个问题。
The population growth in China remains a problem.
王叔叔是一位非常有名的医生。
