一般情况，在形容、副词末尾加est，例如：tall-tallest; short-shortest
以字母e结尾的形容词、副词，在词尾加r，例如：fine-finnest; late-latest。
重读闭音节词词尾只有一个辅音字母时，先双写该辅音字母，再加er，例如：big-biggest; thin-thinnest。
以“辅音字母+y”结尾的双音节词，先把“y”变为“i”，再加er，例如：easy-easiest; funny-funniest; early-earliest。
