Mahatma Gandhi
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1849-1948), popularly known as Mahatma(“great soul”) Gandhi, was an Indian political leader who led India to independence from the British Empire. He began his career as a lawyer and rose to prominence(崭露头角) while fighting racial descrimination (反对种族歧视) in South Africa. He is most famous for his successful application (运用) of non-violent methods(非暴力的方法), like civil disobedience(非暴力反抗). He was a souce of inpiration (灵感来源) for many world leaders (世界领导人)including Martin Luther King.
