Riding Towards Success
The Hangzhou Asian Games is around the corner. It will be held from September 23 to October 8 in Hangzhou. Alex Hua Tian, a Chinese equestrian, is ready for it. “Players and horses from more than 20 countries will come to compete in equestrian events. I am looking forward to competing at home and I will do my best job,” he said.
Hua was born in 1989 in England to a Chinese father and a British mother. He grew up in Beijing and Hong Kong before moving back to England. He began riding at the age of 4 and fell in love with the sport. He showed a talent in it and quickly rose to fame.
Hua represented China at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He made history by becoming the first-ever Chinese eventing rider in Olympic history and the youngest Olympic eventer in world history. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, he finished in 8th place in individual eventing, which was China’s best Olympic eventing result ever. Hua also won third place in individual eventing at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Besides his equestrian achievements, Hua is known for promoting equestrian sports in China. In 2017, he started Horsemanship Movement. It is a program that introduces competitive horseback riding and teaches the values of horsemanship — respect, responsibility and compassion to children of all backgrounds in China.
Hua sets a good example for young riders in China and the world. Now he feels excited about the coming Asian Games. Let’s wish him good luck!
