Making PPT slides about a festival
◆ 内容分析
本板块围绕单元话题，通过小组合作，制作介绍某一节日的幻灯片。首先就世界不同的节日进行讨论，开阔思路；然后了解并掌握介绍节日的方法和步骤，继而在此基础上选择一个节日，制作幻灯片；最后展示幻灯片，并用英语对其进行介绍，其他小组需针对展示的作品做简要评价。
◆ 教学目标
By the end of this section, we will be able to:
1. make PPT slides about a festival through cooperation and exploration;
2. present the PPT slides about a festival;
3. evaluate and comment on each other’s PPT slide.
A. Preparation
1. List the Chinese and foreign festivals mentioned in this unit in groups and ask them to add more festivals they know.

2. Pick one festival and briefly answer the following questions.
(1) Why do you choose this festival
We choose the Carnival because it presents Brazilian culture and shows how they celebrate in an extremely exciting atmosphere with everyone dancing and singing in the street.
(2) What do you want to introduce about this festival
We would like to talk about its origin and history.
3. Add more aspects to the following mind map and use it to conduct further research about the chosen festival in groups.
4. Collect information and arrange it in a logical way for your PPT slides in groups.
B. Practice
1. Design the outline and put information in the PPT slides.
2. Pay attention to the tip of “Making PPT slides” on page 41, using the skills mentioned in the tip to optimize [ pt ma z](使最优化；充分利用) the design of their PPT slides.
3. Present the PPT slides you have made in groups to the whole class.
4. Revise your PPT slides based on others’ comments.
5. As a group, put together your information to make your PPT slides. Use the example below to help you. Then present your PPT slides to the rest of the class.
Tip:
Making PPT slides
To make good PPT slides, you should:
highlight the most important content and not put too much information on one slide;
use letters of proper sizes and colours to bring your slides to life(使更有趣；使更生动);
include pictures, charts, sound effects(音响效果) and videos where necessary.
The Lantern Festival
Date: On the fifteenth day of the first month in the Chinese lunar calendar
Activities:
Carry or hang up paper lanterns, and solve riddles written on them;
Eat rice balls (also known as yuanxiao );
Enjoy a family get-together.

The colourful lanterns shone as daylight.
On top of the willows the moon crept,
With my lover, the evening date I kept.

月上柳梢头，人约黄昏后。
This year again the Lantern Festival night,
The moon’s as high; the lanterns as bright.
But I see not my lover last year I met,
Tears fall, and make my sleeves wet.

Brazil’s Carnival Holiday
Carnival is the most famous holiday in Brazil. It is not about a big moment in history or about a famous person, but it is important for people because it’s a time of joy, dance, cuisine, and almost a whole week without work.
People can choose between parties or rest, and most people choose parties, day after day, night after night. People put on their costumes and go out into the streets or to clubs.
There are also the samba schools which make a parade showing their music and fantasies.
They are followed by the passionate people. Every year the parade tells a different story.
Each city has one or more schools like this.
C. Assessment
1. Evaluate the PPT slides in groups from the content, colour, design, size of letters, language, picture, etc.
2. Select the PPT slides that are well designed and present them on the screen.
Assessment
In pairs, rank your performance level in the following areas from 1 to 5. Write down your own assessment in the column “Me” and ask your partner to write down his/her assessment of your performance in the column “Partner”.
