Born on July 1st, 1948, in the small Italian city of Palmi, Roberto Crea was a genius kid. He moved to the Netherlands and majored in Biological Chemistry. It was this university that directed his interest in the synthesis (合成) of nucleotides, the basic units that are required to build DNA. At that time, not many researchers studied the combination of genes (基因), but Roberto's strong chemistry background made a historical invention possible.
In 1977, he joined the Genentech, Inc. and the gene synthesis team at City of Hope Medical School. The company funded Dr. Crea's ongoing research on gene synthesis. After working day and night, the brilliant individual finally invented a new procedure that improved the chemical synthesis of genes. Thanks to his rich knowledge and the joint efforts of the excellent Genentech team, he made use of this discovery to produce the human insulin (胰岛素) genes, A and B. It was his invention that allowed Genentech to be labeled as the first producer of human protein. This benefited hundreds of millions of people suffering from diabetes (糖尿病) all over the world.
Today Roberto is known as the father of synthetic insulin and had almost won the Nobel Prize. Australian experts have expressed concerns that too many millennials are hoping to use their social media accounts to build their careers.
Their concerns follow the sudden rise in Internet celebrities who make money by posting photos or videos online. For the lucky few who are not only talented in photographing but also good-looking and business-savvy, making money from social media isn't impossible.
Social media platforms are flooded with professionals paid to promote products and services. However, social scientist Lauren Rosewarne, from the University of Melbourne, said, "In reality, there are far fewer people making money from the platforms than one may think." She also said many young Australians were getting sucked in social media platforms by the appeal of making money quickly from the platforms, describing it as "totally unrealistic".
"Young people are hoping to be famous in numbers that were simply not there 20 years ago," Rosewarne told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). "There are some people who can make fortunes out of monetizing(使赚钱) their posts, but that is not the norm," she said. "It is up to parents and schools to discourage students from seeking fame, as many believe it is a possible career choice. There's the warning for parents; this is not a normal or even common occurrence that you can monetize your social media account."
Meanwhile Toni Eagar from the Australian National University said social problems could arise from spending too much time on social media. "Where do the Internet celebrities go to separate the life people see on social media websites from their actual normal life " Eagar said. "All of a sudden, people own your private life."
12.Why is there a rise in Internet celebrities
A.Many young people are good at taking photos.
B. People want to socialize by sharing photos online.
C. Many people see being Internet celebrities as an easy way to make money.
D. Social media offers a reliable career choice tomillennials.
13.What does the underlined phrase "getting sucked in" in Paragraph 3 probably mean
A. Benefiting from. B. Being satisfied with.
C. Taking advantage of. D. Getting involved in.
14.What message does the author convey by quoting Lauren Rosewarne
A. Young people today are more business-savvy than ever.
B. Young people become less interested in Internet fame.
C. It's not a wise choice to promote new products on social media platforms.
D. It's a bad idea for young people to try earning money from social media platforms.

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When school was over, the day was fading and it started to drizzle(下毛毛雨). I stood at the school gate, with a loaded backpack on my shoulders. It was Friday again: a weekend of joy with unlimited sleeping hours and dinner courses specially made to my taste, a weekend at home. I waved goodbye to my friends as they jumped into their fathers' warm and comfortable cars. Curiously, this gave rise to a disturbing feeling in me. It was not exactly what they called jealousy, but something like dismay(沮丧). I knew all I could expect was an old bike Mom would ride along on, with the badly-oiled chain creaking(嘎吱作响) against the wheel to announce her arrival.
Every 'Friday when Mom came to pick me up for the weekend, it was a moment full of great expectation and great unease. I always felt my face burning as we rode our way in and out of the numerous cars and saw my friends' faces sticking out of the car windows. It was like stepping into a ballroom with beautifully dressed ladies and finding yourself in a smelly T-shirt.
To tell you the truth, Mom is quite a headache once in a while. She just looks a homely middle-aged housewife. Being a practitioner of DIY, she knits most of my sweaters, chiefly in old styles. Whenever caught by some curious classmates asking what brand my sweaters are, I'd force a smile and reply in a half joking manner: homemade.
I couldn't remember when I started to find her such an embarrassment. As a little boy, I relied on her so much. She had been working at home, cooking in the kitchen, knitting by the lamp or riding across town to buy me a book I badly needed. It had always been much fun riding with Mom. But just now there seemed to be something standing between us, something that made her so strange to me and me to her.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Today, she showed up in a raincoat, and again, obviously homemade. _______________
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

42考查状语从句。空前提到春节是最有活力和最重要的节日,空后是解释原因,所以填because引导原因状语从句。故填because。
Dear Tom,
How is everything going Learning that you are interested in Chinese summer vacation, I am delighted to share some information with you.
For Chinese students, the summer vacation usually lasts for more than 1 month, during which time students' activities can be various, ranging from academic improvement to hobby cultivation. Some may be occupied with after-school classes so as to enrich themselves mentally; some may take up more sports to keep physically fit; others may join their friends so that they could get entertained together.
As for me, this summer vacation is the most unforgettable. Short though it was, I spent a fulfilling and rewarding one. The highlight was my voluntary experience in the nursing home, where I had a good chat with the elderly and listened to their life stories. By practicing the voluntary spirit, not only have I gained a better knowledge of the senior citizens but I also have done my bit for the society.
Hopefully, my information can be of help. If you have any doubt, do feel free to ask me.
Yours
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
Today, she showed up in a raincoat, and again, obviously homemade. I finally couldn't control myself and shouted at her with an edge of bitterness, "Why do you look so flustered I don't need you to take me home!" The whole world suddenly became quiet. Not a single sound could be heard except my heartbeat. Maybe she had never thought that I would have that feeling. She didn't interrupt the silence and just covered the raincoat on me. I tore it off wildly and threw it away.
She picked up the raincoat from the ground and held me tight as a storm set in. With a smile, she said, "Dear son, I'm trying my best to earn our living, and I'm sure that if we work harder, we will get whatever we want in the future." Hearing her words, I felt embarrassed. I thought of the time when she knitted in the deep night and cooked for me in the early morning. Yes, she had always been doing whatever she could to make me live well. But I was still unsatisfied. I knew that if I wanted to get what others had, I should spare no effort to study hard and get it by myself.
