Step III Lead-in Show a picture about Halloween and ask the students: Which festival is it What do people usually do at Halloween Try to answer the questions. Lead in the topic of passage. Pave the way for the following learning.
Step IV Presentation Show some pictures and describe them. Teach new words:pumpkin lantern; dress up; wear masks; paint faces; special; trick or treat; knock . Ask the students to do B1. Listen and learn, then do B1. Make the Ss know about Halloween. Prepare for studying the passage.

Step IV Listening Play the tape. Finish A1. Listen to the second part and finish A2. Play the tape again and check the answers. Listen and write. Listen for specific information.
Step V Practice Ask Ss to help Wendy finish her postcard. Let Ss discuss in pairs then check the answers. Get them read the postcard in class. 1. Ss try to use the information to complete Wendy’s postcard. 2. Read and act. Check Ss if they have grasped the knowledge they learnt in this period.

Step III Presentation “play say” How do you read these two words Pay attention to the letters “ay” Wait rain Present the sounds of “ai” and let the Ss imitate the sound. In this way teach more sounds of the letter groups. Encourage Ss to make up more words. Help Ss make up more words by themselves.
Step IV A game Let us play a game to remember words and the sounds of the letter groups.. Get one student to come to the Bb. Choose one of the cards. Show the picture to the teacher. The teacher must say out words and letter groups at once. Ask some Ss to play the game. Play a game together. To arouse Ss’ interest in learning English.
Step V Make a card Take out the cards prepared before class. Say: Do you think cards can help you remember things This is a good way of learning English.
