Copenhagen, the capital and largest city of Denmark, is in the eastern part of the country on the eastern coast of Zealand. The city was founded in 1160, when it was created to act as a trade center and a fortress (堡垒) to protect the Danish trade and shipping.
In the 1980s, the environment in Copenhagen was heavily polluted and there were only a few kinds of fish and birds. But now the waterways are clean enough for people to swim in, go sailing and go fishing. Fish, birds and plants have returned. The city has been named as the World’s Greenest City. My grandpa was always a quiet, shy and caring man. He loved to take care of people, especially my grandma. He loved to garden and work in his wood shop. He grew up on a farm and his father didn’t let him go to school. But he did not want to be a farmer. So he borrowed books from the library and studied them. And he took things apart to see how they worked. Through self-teaching, he became an electrician (电工)and an inventor. Finally he got a position (位置) as an engineer.
